big brother

my dad is a little creeped out by the power of google maps, referring to it as "big brother". i suppose it has something to do with feeling like his privacy could be violated. but he didn't grow up in a generation of narcissistic facebook status updates, so i can understand his desire to preserve some sense of privacy.

recently google pulled off some pretty cool tricks for brandon though...

we have been in the market for a truck & finally saved up enough cash {per dave ramsey's advice} to buy it outright. brandon found a pickup he is interested in on craigslist but we have had difficulty getting in touch with the person due to phone number issues. we were beginning to doubt the whole situation & fearing we were getting the run-around on a non-existent truck.

cue google: brandon entered the phone number we had into google, got an address connected to the number, & then went to "street view" where he could see the truck we are trying to buy in the driveway!

we were feeling all excited about the magic of google, until we realized how easy it is to track down someone's home address, vehicle type, & property layout without even leaving the couch. let's just hope no one is looking for us with ill intentions, eh? so yeah, now i understand why that "big brother" gives my dad the heebie-jeebies.

if all goes according to plan, we will head down to denver tomorrow, cash in hand, to add another vehicle to our car insurance policy. a bonus of the trip is that we get to visit tiffany in denver!

imac in abu dhabi

i have been anxiously tracking the status of our ipod and imac. both have shipped now!
however, the shipping log for the ipod shows it going from shanghia to anchorage to indianapolis to portland. a real direct route. hmmm... what are these mac folks doing to me?
as for the computer, it went shanghia to anchorage to memphis. what on earth is my computer doing in memphis? hopefully picking up some music! it seems absurd to me that it wouldn't just be shipped south from anchorage to portland. it may as well go to abu dhabi for a well-rounded trip!
its no wonder we have a fuel crisis. among many causes, arbitarily shipping people's orders all over the world doesn't seem like the best use of our dwendeling supply of oil.
i'm not really angry (although the above rant would lead one to think so) i am just at a loss. hopefully the box arrives with fun stickers from all of the places our computer and ipod have been to lately!

mac-addicts-r-us

look out world, the overstreets are becoming mac addicts!

we did it...we bought an iMac tonight. the new version was released today and we bought our very own just this evening. we might actually be at the crest of the technology wave for about two weeks.

we sent it to oregon to avoid $99.00 in sales tax, so it will come when mom comes to visit. mmm, we can't wait!

anyhow, here are some photos of our new prized possession...
oh, so thin!
nice and sleek!
we are eagerly anticipating the arrival of our new machine, and the icing on the cake is that as students, we got a free iPod! so now i can be cool like brandon and rock out to my own iTunes. if i could just get my brothers over here to help me program it!

dead computer equals no posts

i must admit that starting a blog of our lives was a bad idea when i knew our "temporary" computer was going away soon--hence the lack of posts lately. our real computer is big d dead and the work computer of brandon's that we had had to go away.
we spent some time researching the computer we want (imac 17") last night and are convinced that is what we want to buy. but we are tired of buying things now and paying for them later. we really need to shake this attitude that debt is okay! so we are dilligently and patiently saving. okay, so the patient part comes and goes.
for now we are just trying to find some times to be together with this being finals week for brandon (and one exam for me with my online class) and closing weekend for me at work. but brandon leaves sunday for dillon, montana for three weeks so we are trying to enjoy the sunshine while we can.
