Flowers on the Grave

I remember a text message passed around years ago about visiting the grave of the departed loved ones. It says something that it’s better that we visit the dead rather than they pay us a visit. Scary, huh?

I am not really used to visiting the grave of dead loved ones, because I believe that what remain in the grave are the bones and ashes. I’d like to remember them in my thoughts in some place else, but not in the cemetery. But my wife’s aunt invited us (I mean all her relatives) to visit her husband’s grave on November 1. Good thing the memorial park is new and not so crowded yet. My wife arranged the flowers in the baskets. And we noticed we’re the only ones having red flowers.

Customary na lang na, Gaw, ang pagdalaw sa cemetery. I remember we used to visit my late father's grave, too, when I was in the province yet. We didn't do the visitation on Nov. 1 or 2 but earlier than those dates to avoid the crowd. Who says we absolute had to visit our relatives grave on Nov. 1 or 2 only? ;)

Well I'm sure the departed will appreciate the gesture. They're still flowers after all...

gaw dodong, yep it's customary. but because of the steep price of the memorial lots, some would just prefer cremation, then bring home the ashes inside the urn.

cess, flowers for cemeteries are usually white. red symbolizes for joy and happiness.

snglguy, uncle is smiling in Jesus' side when he see those flowers. Hindi palangiti yun when he was still alive.

My sister and I just lighted a candle for our departed loved ones..."they" are all in the province.

For me the important thing is to remember them and offer a prayer for them...you don't have to be in the cemetery to do this. However it's also nice to pay "them" a visit.

Mas maayo pa ang cremation. The relatives won't bother to visit to the cemetery anymore. Besides, the relatives can offer flowers to the dead relative anytime kasi the urn is just placed in the house...

red isn't rare. it is customary to use all white for the first two years then bright happy colors such as red after the period of mourning is over. :D

verns, the important thing is that we remember them.

gaw dodong, cremation is very practical. din lang approved ng catholic church.

freeze, i didn't know that. i only white flowers in the cemetery. i guess it's because bago pa lang yung memorial park na yun.
