I loved that little trip Gesbi. What a shame about the castle. I am surprised someone didn't rebuild it. Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteAnd to think people have been building fake ruins for centuries! There are so many of them in France that certain realtors (especially the best ones) have a "ruins" category in their offer!
DeleteSuch a dreamy, poetic post. It was a "tonic" as the English say, to stop here today. Sad news about the Musee in Lyon. So infuriating really and a very sad sign of the times. Have I mentioned I had a chance to visit there last fall and didn't go, choosing instead the mountains and nature? I loved your post about the Greffluhe (sp?) lady. She reminds me a little of K. Kardashian and Robert Mapplethorpe - I'm listening to "Just Kids" by Patti Smith at the moment - the idea of their clothing being a manifestation of their spirits. I'm a little embarassed to say that I spent much of my time around the Paris massacre and my boy cat's death looking at fashion and clothes sites. It's a drug for me, pure soothing aesthetics/armor and it turns my brain off. Thank you for your very sweet thoughts on my "Sunshine" post. I agree completely with you that it is better to love and lose than never to have experienced that love at all. Very comforting to be reminded. Hope all is well with you, G., and your own occasionally warring boys. xoxo from L.A.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteSome better news: the musée des tissus will stay afloat now for 2016. Some temporary measures to finance it have been taken by the State (we have a new culture minister!), the region and finally the city (encouraged by the very generous support from the interior designer, Brigitte Saby). So -- the battle continues!
I love all you've fit into this comment, Mlle P, but have to say I was a little lost at first. I usually steer clear of KK but you had me googling her because of your linking her to la Greffulhe - and Mapplethorpe. Sorry but I didn't have the stomach to go very far with it. Anyway, after the initial jolt, I guess you are right - they both manipulate their audiences for admiration, with the difference that the comtesse, a woman of substance, took the less-is-more approach of the elite and would not even give away her photos and Kim... is unavoidable. Even on the fringes of the most serious news sites, she's there with lewd captions so people will click. I do wonder what it means that she can have such impact on the world. But clothes as a drug, I'm all for it!
