Secret Box #3 The Secret Fire

Presenting Secret Box #3 The Secret Fire by Whitaker Ringwald.

Here is the summary of the book:

The third and final book in the critically acclaimed Secret Box trilogy, a series pitch-perfect for fans of humorous mystery capers like Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library and the Mysterious Benedict Society.

Who knew that insisting on opening a strange birthday present would lead to being kidnapped by an evil Greek god determined to conquer the world? Jax Malone certainly didn’t. But now she’s trapped in the back of a limo bound for Epimetheus’s secret lair. He wants to control the three ancient urns that used to belong to Pandora’s daughter. Magical urns that can suck hope, faith, and love out of the world.

Now Jax, Ethan, and Tyler’s only chance to fight Epimetheus’s formidable power might be to find a secret weapon—and to realize that their family ties are stronger than any magic.

REVIEW ==

This is the conclusion to the Secret Box trilogy. Where ancient Greek Mythology meets modern day middle grade fantasy. Based on the myths of Pandora's Box. This is Jax, Ethan and Tyler's final tug-of-war against Epimetheus or Ricardo as they try to keep all the urns of faith, hope & love away from his nefarious purposes.

Good fun entertainment this book is. Targeted towards the middle grade demographic, the language was also very easy to understand. And while the series may not be for me but I enjoyed every little bit of it. With Ethan's nervous habits and fact filled brain to Jax's sass and Tyler's mathematical brain and their journey of a life time to save humanity. Very well done.

"Fans of good clean action and Greek Mythology will enjoy this series"

Secret Box #2 The Secret Cipher

Presenting Secret Box #2 The Secret Cipher by Whitaker Ringwald.

Here is the summary of the book:

The Secret Cipher is the sequel to The Secret Box, a rollicking adventure full of family rivalry, magic, questing, and laugh-out-loud humor that's perfect for fans of Dan Gutman, Wendy Mass, and Trenton Lee Stewart.

Jax Malone and her cousin Ethan Hoche were not expecting one of Jax's birthday presents to contain a dangerous magical object from a mythical past: an urn with the dark power to suck hope out of the world.

Though the first urn is safely hidden, there are two more urns that could rid humanity of both faith and love. And powerful enemies who want to find them and use them to control the world. Now, even though they were never meant to open the present and discover its secret, Jax and Ethan must race to find and destroy the two remaining urns before it's too late.

Jax, Ethan and Tyler return for yet another adventure. Jax's birthday present changes their lives. All those stories are true. The Greek Mythology holds true. The Gods exist and most of all certain things, myths of legends are real and are powerful beyond all imaginations. The urn of hope maybe safe but two more still remain. Faith and Love. Two more urns that may just be more powerful than their third counterpart.

I'd say the author did a decent job expanding on his universe. There is a definite character development evident in this sequel. Jax is a bit more cautious, although still very much the energy freak. Cousin Ethan is still the factoid geek but a bit more confident and Tyler, still the designated driver. Things just have escalated now. Godly intervention is expected now that those urns have come to light and secrets from the past reveal the potential for even great changes. An action-packed sequel and a fast page turner ..... We are more than invested to learn what the fate of our heroes is and what happens next.

"A quick and fast paced sequel"

The Secret Box

Presenting The Secret Box by Whitaker Ringwald.

Here is the summary of the book:

The Amazing Race meets The Mysterious Benedict Society with a twist of magical mythology in this hilarious middle-grade caper about a strange locked box that transforms the lives of three kids.

The Secret Box is the first in an irresistible middle-grade trilogy that combines the magic of 11 Birthdays with the adventure of the Genius Files series and humorous quirk worthy of Trenton Lee Stewart. The page-turning mystery, alternating girl and boy narrators, and clever incorporation of mythology are sure to delight-and lingering questions will leave readers eager for more.

On her 12th birthday Jax Malone receives a surprise gift from her estranged Great-Aunt Juniper: a mysterious locked box that will only open in one location. If Jax's mom hadn't tried to return it, Jax would have assumed it was just another boring present to add to the most boring, un-magical birthday ever.

Instead, Jax decides she must open the box. So she recruits her reluctant cousin Ethan and his obnoxious, computer-genius older brother Tyler to help find the site where the box will open.

But what starts as a fun adventure quickly turns crazy, even dangerous, when Jax, Ethan, and Tyler learn that the box was not intended as a gift, but as a call for help from an ancient magical source thought to only exist in myth.

"This mystery unfolds before your eyes in a series of cliffhangers that build up to a blow-your-mind ending. Wanting to know the secret kept me turning the pages."-Dan Gutman, New York Times bestselling author of the Genius Files series.

Quite Possibly not my favorite children's fiction but with an intriguing plot point and although predictable but a fun read. Whitaker Ringwald's upcoming The Secret Box proves to be quite the okay read.  Particularly the mythology behind the coded box, that was definitely the best part of this book.

Adventure begins when your parents tell you not to do that one thing but its your curiosity that leads you to do it. When a coded box arrives on Jax's birthday and her mother hurriedly plans to returns it to the post office and back to sender..... So Jax's curiosity gets the better of her and she ropes in her cousins Ethan (the factoid memoriser) and Tyler (the trophy monger) in on this adventures...... unearthing a past long subdued, about a mysterious great aunt and the contents of her box.

"The Secret Box provides for an intellectual fun but a predictable middle grade adventure"
