Injustice: Gods Among Us Year 2 Vol.1

Presenting Injustice: Gods Among Us Year 2 Vol.1 by Tom Taylor, Mike S. Miller & Tom Derenick.

Here is the summary of the book:

The best-selling prequel to the hit videogame picks up right where it left off! Year one is over--now, year two begins. The death of one of their own has divided Earth's protectors as hero turns against hero. As Superman's iron grip on the world tightens, at the edge of the galaxy, anothe grave threat approaches...

INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US YEAR 2 continues the story from the New York Times best-selling graphic novel with rising star writer Tom Taylor (EARTH 2) and a team of artists including Mike S. Miller, Bruno Redondo and Tom Derenick.

Collects INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US YEAR 2 #1-5.

Injustice: Gods Among Us Year 1 introduced us to a world we are familiar with but so very different and so very creepy. So Superman is still very much the ultimate dictator, alongwith his allies trying to police the world with an iron fist. And more trouble seems to be headed their way. Sinestro wants an in and the Green Lantern Corps. are working to put a stop to Superman's madness.

This is a 'what if' extravaganza at its extreme. I so love 'what if' stories. They take known characters and try to mold them into something new and original, sometimes positive and sometimes negative. And Injustice... is a great example of the DC Universe gone the deep end. A job well done by the creative group, 'Year 2 Vol 1' maintains the darkness we expected in the 'Year 1' and even more players added to the quota be it human, superhuman or alien.

Injustice: Gods Among Us (Vol. 1 & Vol. 2)

This is a combined review of Vol 1. & Vol. 2 of Injustice: Gods Among Us.

I am not a hard core gamer neither am I a comic book nerd. But I do enjoy a great story. So color me surprised when I find out that this is based on the game by the same name. I'll be checking it later but this is it for now.

But gotta admit this is one epic-ly dark story here with the full DC Superheros roaster in the mix. So Joker tricks Superman into killing his very much pregnant wife Lois Lane and resulting in razing Metropolis from the face of the Earth.

Raked with guilt and the loss of loved ones, the usually sunny-disposition Superman has decided that enough is enough and that no crime should go unpunished anymore and decides to use his powers and those of his fellow Justice League members to police the world. Using extreme measures if necessary. Of course Batman is there to slap some sense into him.

Lines blur between the notions of right and wrong and as Superman and Batman are at odds with each other. The Justice league members have much to decide on.

And If you think Vol 1 was explosion then think again because Vol. 2 takes it to the next step. Lex Luthor, the only survivor of the Metropolis blast has now embraced Superman's new ideals and has his own ideas to better the world. Of course many important characters see their untimely end and of course Superman seems to have fully adopted to his dark side and enacted on his ultimatum.

Yes, the graphics and the illustrations aren't top-notch but the intent is clear. Going away from canon and spicing things up both Vol. 1 & 2 are a feast for the eyes and very much emotionally riveting. Eager for Vol. 3 now.

"A tantalizingly darker take on Justice League with a full DC Superheroes roaster"
