slowly coming back

winter sunset

So...here it is almost three months since my last post. I had to take a break. I'm slowly starting to
feel like taking photos again. I needed a rest from photography, blogging, and social media. Sometimes you just need to take a break and start fresh. That works for me. I'm excited about the new year and have lots of changes coming my way!

sitting by the merced river

the merced river

Long-time Yosemite naturalist Carl Sharsmith was once asked what he would do if he only had a day to see Yosemite. "Madam," he replied, "I'd sit by the Merced River and cry."

I got to see as much as I could in two days at Yosemite. It was not enough time. I did manage to
sit by the Merced river for an hour one day. I will never forget the total feeling of peace surrounding me and the sweet smell in the air from the lupine wildflowers nearby.

I can't wait to go back to Yosemite someday and dip my feet in that cold mountain water of the
Merced river.

volkswagen festival

These were taken at the Volkswagen Festival in Eureka Springs. Rob and I have gone for the past
four years. We have wanted a vw camper bus FOREVER! My parents had a red one when I was a kid and we always had a blast buzzing around in it. Buzzing was the only thing I could think of to describe that cute VW sound. Hopefully we will have one of our own someday.

i am what you see

i am what you see

A couple of weeks ago Rob and I spent four days in Eureka Springs for a mini vacation.
I took several self-portraits while we walked the streets and browsed shops to remember my time
spent in one of my favorite little cities.

Rob got me Vivian Maier's Street Photography book for Christmas last year. Her self-portrait
work has been so inspiring to me. I'm always looking for reflective surfaces for capturing the when and where of my life. I liked the way these turned out so I thought I would share them with you.

musée mécanique

The above photos that I took at Musée Mécanique in San Francisco were featured as the One Word
pic of the day on the always inspiring Shutter Sisters blog. Pretty cool! The word of the month is YOU.
Pop on over to the flickr group and join in on the project.

ten years

I was so excited to find a working photobooth in San Francisco. Before we left on our trip I checked
the photobooth.net  website for any photobooths along the way and found two in San Fran. Out of all the little things I got on the trip these photo strips were my favorite souvenirs. Totally worth $3 each!
I have lots of photos from San Francisco coming soon!

We spent our ten year anniversary at the famous Tunnel View. It's like a glimpse of heaven.

Day one at Yosemite was spent setting up camp and collecting supplies. We got to see the famous tunnel view for the first time and found a beautiful meadow behind the Crane Flat store. I spent a lot of time there taking pics of the wildflowers. I even saw a few deer. More from our stay coming soon.

We finally arrived in California on day three of our trip. The drive went by pretty fast with lots of stops at fruit stands and the In-N-Out drive-thru. That night we stayed at a hotel on route 66 in Barstow. I was later told by many Californians that wasn't a good idea. Oh well. I didn't think it was all that bad. The hotel pool was a much needed break after driving through the mojave desert all day. I got to drink a cold beer and listen to my cali playlist I made for my ipod while watching the palm trees sway in the breeze.
I was so excited to be in California.

space

wide open spaces

I forgot to share my last contribution to words to shoot by. The word was space.
These were taken on my first day in California. I saw a lot of wide open spaces driving through the
mojave desert. I have tons to share from my visit to Cali coming soon.

a place of peace

The second night of our trip was spent at the Grand Canyon. It was a much needed day of peace and quiet.
That night was one of the best nights of rest I have ever had camping. It was so quiet! No bug sounds! I
was not used to that at all. The next morning I woke up at five and got to see a beautiful sunrise with Rob.
Our stay there was perfect.
