lessons from a pineapple plant
Moving is one taxing thing to do. Almost two years ago, my landlord gave me two months to find another place to rent as he needed to take the house back. He was having some troubles with his sister whom he lives with his family. So he decided to take refuge in his own home by asking his tenant to leave, which would be me. Well, where would he get his income this time? Anyway, that would be a different story.
Of course, the first thing in my itinerary move was my plants, not ten, twenty, or a hundred but lots and lots more. It took 22 pick-up truck trips, one way for all the plants, and 2 six-wheeler truck trips for everything in my house. I am not a hoarder. I am a collector, hahaha.
Anyway, there was this one plant that I intended not to bring with me, but the person who helped me transport all my plants took this pineapple plant along. When I saw it, I told my friend that I didn't really want it, but since it was already in my new place, I placed it at the back of the garden without exerting any care.
Fast forward to this year, I was trimming some of the plants at the back of the garden when I spotted my lone pineapple plant in bloom. I was mesmerized because it was so pretty. But then, it came to my mind that I had neglected this plant and intended not to bring it with me. Now, it is a pretty sight and, one day, a juicy one to eat.
I learned a lot of things just by looking at the plant and discovering how mindless I could be in my decisions. I was taking all that looked good and healthy. I took in my new space, the plants I felt deserved a new spot. In reality, this fruit-bearing plant is much more than a sight but could also feed an empty stomach.
We always want the best, but sometimes, it takes some things to become better to be appreciated, and we have no patience. So I learned to be fairer and see the goodness in everything around me. Thanks to my pineapple plant and to my driver-friend.
