#BookBlast: Claire Boston Under the Covers The Texan Quartet

Claire Boston is the best-selling author of The Texan Quartet. In 2014 she was nominated for an Australian Romance Readers Award as Favourite New Romance Author. Her debut contemporary romance novel, What Goes on Tour caught the attention of Momentum’s Joel Naoum when her first scene was read aloud at the Romance Writers’ of Australia (RWA) conference in 2013. This led to a four book contract for The Texan Quartet series.

Claire is proactive in organising social gatherings and educational opportunities for local authors. She is an active volunteer for RWA, as a mentor for aspiring authors and the reader judge coordinator.

When Claire’s not writing she can be found in the garden attempting to grow vegetables, or racing around a vintage motocross track. If she can convince anyone to play with her, she also enjoys cards and board games.

Claire lives in Western Australia, just south of Perth, with her husband, who loves even her most annoying quirks, and her grubby, but adorable Australian bulldog.

Excerpt:
Elle and George have agreed to be friends. George has invited her to a friend’s house for a barbeque and he’s just got out of the swimming pool.

Elle turned to find George toweling himself dry. He was standing close, too close really, and some of the water from his hair flicked on to her. It was suddenly difficult to breathe. George was a formidable presence with his clothes on, but without them he was magnetic. His chest was muscled and she itched to run her hands over it. She backed up a step.

“Sorry,” he said and grinned.

“I should help Toby with his dinner,” she said.

“Kate’s got him taken care of,” George said.

She had. Toby and Kate had found seats together at the table and Toby had some ribs on his plate. Kate handed him the potato salad and they both seemed perfectly happy.

Elle acknowledged the pinch of loss – her little boy was growing up and didn’t need her any
more – but part of her was pleased. She didn’t want him to be clingy, didn’t want him to be
scared of the world.

George handed her a plate. “Help yourself.”

He’d yet to put on his T-shirt and the temptation to help herself to something else was strong. She shook her head, surprised at herself. She hadn’t been interested in sex for years; she’d hated the way Dean had made her feel so vulnerable, had her begging him for release. The last thing she should be feeling now was attraction for someone she was determined not to get involved with, as anything other than a friend.

Without benefits.

He’s an art thief on the run...with her heart

Look closer, into Hotel Totally Five Star Venice, where art curator Monique Le Bres has just
walked through the doors of the newly opened swanky luxury hotel to assist with their art
collection.

Alessandro Bonnard, the world-renowned art connoisseur and collector has been sent incognito to supervise Monique and oversee her acquisitions for the hotel.

Concealing his true identity, Alessandro is intrigued by the art-loving vixen with an appetite for kinky sex. He pursues Monique, charming her at every turn — taking her to places she’s never been — both in and out of bedroom.

Monique falls hard for the man who has utterly captured her body and soul. Only to find out he isn’t who she thought he was after all...he’s an art thief on the run...with her heart.

Excerpt:
Smiling, the hotel clerk handed her the large gold room key.

“Signorina Le Bres, benvenuti a Venezia.” She welcomed Monique warmly. “Signor Amatus will be here un momento to escort you to your suite.”

The mix of English and Italian words was enchanting to Monique, so far from the small dirt filled town back in Kansas that she’d dragged herself out so many years ago where the only foreign language spoken was pig Latin if you were lucky and grow up on the right side of the tracks. Monique hadn’t even been that lucky, the rusted out trailer she’d shared with her mother couldn’t have been further from the right side of anything.

“Grazie.” Monique took the gold key, noting how large and heavy it was in the palm of her hand.

Almost ominous of what lay ahead. No slick electronic keys at this hotel. No, this was one hundred percent Italian luxury. The key began to heat in her grasp as she glanced around for the man who was supposed to greet her.

The elevator door dinged, catching her attention.

Monique’s mouth dropped open. A good looking twenty-something man dressed in employee issued suit exited. His robust laughter had caught her attention with his momentarily flirtation with a sexy young woman dressed in the hotel uniform that made Monique smirk as the man patted her ass when he passed. A first rate flirter for sure, she made a mental note to steer clear.

Monique’s smirk turned into a frown as the man kept walking straight towards Monique.

“There he is, Signor Amatus,” the clerk behind the counter called to Monique while she stood somewhat transfixed as the flirter approached. He really was young. Could he really be her supervisor? Not at all what she’d been expecting. Maybe mid twenties if she was generous.

Barely legal age back in the states and good ten to fifteen years younger than her she was quite sure.

“Ah, Signorina Le Bres...”

“Yes, I am Monique Le Bres.” She extended her hand. He wasted no time sliding it into his and reaching it to his mouth. Pausing before kissing the back of her palm, his gaze stayed fixed on hers.

“Incantanto,” his words almost a whisper.

These Italian men were skilled at the art of flirtation; there was no denying that. But the sooner she made it clear to him that she was all work and no play the better it would be for both of them.

“I am Donovan Amatus, please allow me welcome to you to Hotel Totally Five Star Venezia. I am sure you will be molto comfortable here.”

The wicked glint in his eyes made her blush and fume at the same time. “I’m the new art
curator,” Monique scrambled to say something, trying not blurt out what she was really thinking.

That it was actually both flattering and maddening all at the same time to be flirted with by this young stud with the wandering eyes only moments after her arrival at the hotel.

“I know, si. Art Curator,” he said, releasing her hand but not before running it lightly over his lips.

“I will be your liaison while you are here, answer any questions you have. Work with you side by side. Fianco a fianco,” he repeated the words in Italian, his tone so intimate that she was lost for a moment as she studied his nametag.

Donovan Amatus, Del controllo qualità.

Quality Control Manager. A vague memory of her letter of employment and that name stuck
in her head but she was damned if she could reconcile the young man in front of her with
her supervisor. Surely there had been some mix up. This young man couldn’t possibly be
supervising her and the forty million euro budget the CEO had entrusted her with.

“The key Signorina?” he prompted.

Speechless she just stood there.

“La chiave, the key, per favore?” He repeated and then reached to take the key from her grip.

“Follow me Signorina Le Bres.”

“Oh, please call me Monique.”

“You Americans are so friendly,” he said with a smile as he led her toward the elevator, placing his hand firmly around her waist.

Summoning her most professional demeanor she slipped from his hold and stepped into the
elevator.

“I am sure you will be very happy working here at the hotel Totally Five Star Venezia.” He said as he punched the fifth floor button.

Monique tried to focus on what she was there for, her dream job and not the leering eyes of her so-called supervisor. “Yes, I’m sure I will. Mr. Conroy’s letter of employment said I could start to work tomorrow.”

“Assolutamente,” he confirmed. “Tomorrow. But first I show you your room, bene?”

Archangel. A musical angel hiding in the dusty, smoke-filled London clubs, she performs with reckless abandon. Few know the woman behind the mask she adorns.

Mary Tudor, twin sister to Amadeus Tudor - a well-known rock star- has all but given up her
up and coming photography business to become the personal photographer, and fiancé to
Daniel Kennedy. Daniel, a world renowned violinist, is one of the few who knows Mary's secret.

Together they scheme to devise a way for her to fulfill a secret dream.

Postponing their wedding until after Daniel's much anticipated European tour, Mary juggles
many jobs. One however alludes her every month. Motherhood.

Making unannounced, surprise appearances during Daniel's tour, the mysterious Archangel
rules the concert stage. Suddenly everyone wants to know who this masked woman is. Fans clamor for more, the press want to know every detail about her, and a few others are sure Daniel Kennedy is quite aware at who this phenomenon is. And if that weren't enough drama, a sinister enigma from her brother's past threatens both her future and her life.

Will Archangel's identity be revealed as planned, or will the chaos of Amadeus' past catch up to them?

Excerpt:
Donning my mask I walked next to him in silence. Peering out through the curtains I could see the wall of fog rising. I waited for Danny's cue, his playing to begin. As he did, I stepped out from behind the curtains and into the fog.

The mystique fit the rock number perfectly and by the time the stage cleared all spots were on the two of us. All our hours of practice had come down to this one moment. Our playing meshed perfectly, flawlessly.

As Danny and Ben had pretty much put the skids on letting me make my entrance through the audience this time. This stalker or whoever he was. Don Roberts. A part of Amadeus's past, not mine. I needed to be in charge here, and not let some person who had a beef with my sibling try and intimidate me.

Launching into the Paganini number I turned away from Daniel and started towards the set of stairs leading down to the audience. Walking down into the crowd, I made my way up one of the aisles. I knew Ben or one of his guys was behind me. They were so close I could just about feel the body heat.

I walked to the top of the section and cut across to begin my trek back to the stage. By the time I made it to the stage, Danny and I would have plenty of time left until the ending of the piece.

After that Ben could help me make my great escape.

It was on the final path towards the stage. Things became a blur. A face, an arm reaching out, grabbing me. Ben and his guys all around me. I vaguely recalled being whisked away into Danny's dressing room, never getting to finish Paganini. But then Paganini had a flair for the dramatic, and this was certainly that.

The next thing I was truly conscious of was being in Danny's dressing room changing out of my outfit. A knock at the door and Ben entered, a very stern look on his face. Danny of course was finishing his show.

"What happened?"

"He tried to grab you as you were walking back to the stage. You don't remember?"

"Vaguely. I was focused on the music and getting back onto the stage at exactly the right time. Then I saw this man-his face-his hand reaching out to grab me."

Jamie will be giving a $20 Amazon/BN gift card during the tour!

#BookBlast Way to Go by @MandyColtonFic

Mandy Colton is from Louisville, KY, and lives a very quiet life with her husband and teenage son. She’s a fan of romance, fun adventure stories, and some occasional sci-fi or paranormal thrown in. Veronica Lane and the idea for her adventures came from her own experiences and career working in the travel industry.

She claims that working in the travel business could be horribly stressful but was equally laugh-out-loud funny at times. She enjoyed many priceless and comical experiences with groups, friends, and peers. Even her clients shared humorous adventures of their own. Her opinion is that there just are no better stories than those that involve true life.

Veronica Lane works in the travel industry in her dream job when she experiences a hellish travel day ending in the loss of her job and stranded far from home. To make the situation even worse, she drowns her sorrows in the hotel bar, and wakes the next morning to a big surprise.

Gathering up the remains of her dignity along with her travel bags, she returns to her hometown in Peachtree City, Georgia. A community similar to a progressive Mayberry, except with golf cart paths and carts. A lot of them. Her family is kooky. The parents are sexually free and liberal, her brother is a golf cart cop with more good looks and brawn than brains. Her grandparents, one from each side, live in the same retirement community and maintain a constant battle while entertaining the other senior citizens. The Grandmother on her dad's side is stuck in the 1960’s, and the Grandfather on her mother's side served in WWII and thinks that the Japanese are still trying to kill him.

She calls inquiring about a job in the newspaper, a group escort for a small tour company in Atlanta. She is hired immediately and leaves the next day with her first group to Jamaica. First, she meets a handsome pilot with the charter airline they use, and then there is one unusual group participant that doesn’t seem to belong. He leaves the group for periods of time and when things happen, he uses MacGyver like skills to get them out of the situations. She is aggravated and knows something is fishy and the bad thing is, the man is very charismatic and she’s not just a little attracted to him.

Upon their return, she finds out that the man is friends with her rather unconventional boss and after a second unusual group excursion to Puerto Rico; she knows for sure that the little tour company in Atlanta is not really what it seems on the outside. When the truth is revealed, she finds herself unintentionally dropped into a new career that she can't exactly add to her resume.

Veronica finds herself in uncomfortable and hilarious situations, surrounded by crazy tour participants, family, friends, neighbors, and pets. After a long dry spell, she finds that there is suddenly an overabundance of romance, drama, and intrigue in her life. Her life is now a sometimes very bumpy, yet exciting ride.

Excerpt:
“Hey, guys. What’s up? Is the bar not open?”

The two elderly ladies in the group walked up next to me. The one named Zelda said, “Well, ain’t that a peculiar-lookin’ bathin’ suit on that man. Looks almost nude.”

Then the man turned around, and I gasped.

Zelda’s travel companion, Ruby, craned her neck, blinked a couple of times, and said, “Zelda, is that what I think it is?”

“Yup, I’m bettin’ my tummy tuck it is. From here, it don’t hardly look like one. Wouldn’t think he’d want the whole world to know God gave him a dinky one like that.”

O-mi-god! He wasn’t the only one like…that at the beach bar. And they were mostly middle-aged or older. Oh, my poor eyes.

When I was finally able to speak, I squeaked out, “Excuse me, folks. I have to go check something out. Be right back.”

I heard a snigger behind me, and I didn’t have to guess who it came from. I ran past Chuckles to the front desk and asked for the manager again. I had a little trouble getting my breath and was beginning to hyperventilate, so I reached down, grabbed my knees, and stuck my head between my legs. At least blue would be a new color for my face today. Shit!

Jarronn shifted from a tiger to his human body when he neared his brothers. When they saw him transform, they followed suit. Each of them wore black leather breeches and black boots.

Is the female prepared?” Ty asked with an eager expression as he used the back of his hand to wipe sweat from his forehead.

“She will be.” Jarronn folded his arms across his chest as he met Ty’s gaze before looking at Karn and Darronn. “Alice’s training has being going well. Already she has advanced far beyond my expectations.”

“We have little time to wait.” Darronn spit into the grass at his feet and turned his glare on Jarronn. “Our kingdoms are vulnerable without us. We must return as soon as possible.”

Jarronn emitted a low growl and clenched his fists. “Your future High Queen’s safety is what you must be concerned with now. You have suitable leaders in your realms who are protecting your people well.”

“Jarronn is right.” Karn eased away from the tree. “Once we have all mind-bonded with the maid and have ensured her safety, we can then return to our own kingdoms and seek our own mates.”

“Mates.” Darronn spat into the grass again. “What good will mates from San Francisco, not of our own world or species do to help our people?”

Jarronn narrowed his gaze. “The Sorceress Kalina has seen it in the cards. That is good enough for me and is most certainly good enough for you all.”

But can he find it in his heart to destroy her?

Excerpt:
“Trust me?” he whispered.

“I trust you.” Her eyes fluttered shut as she waited for the sharp prick of the needle, the one that would send her into her last slumber as a human.

Instead she felt herself being lifted into the air, and even before the back of her head slammed against the hard packed sand, even before the warm water of the tidepool surrounded her, she knew she’d been deceived yet again.

Ash was straddling her body, both hands wrapped around her neck in a grip of steel as he held her head just beneath the water’s surface. The briny sting of saltwater in her nostrils sent panic rushing through her, and she began to struggle like a wild animal, kicking while beating at his arms and tearing at his flesh with her fingernails. It did no good other than to exhaust all her strength. The hands around her throat were immovable. He would not be budged.

A primitive scream escaped her in a short trail of bubbles, accomplishing nothing at all but to deprive her of what little breath she had left. The sapphire eyes that were coldly fixed on her seemed to blur and waver as the rippling water obstructed her vision. She felt dizzy. Her pulse banged out a violent tempo of terror.

Air! Oh God, I need air…I can’t breathe…please, for God’s sake, let go…let go…

In a final desperate bid for oxygen she inhaled reflexively, and her starving lungs ached and burned as they sucked in the stagnant seawater that mercilessly suffocated her.

The frenzied thrashing grew weaker. Her fingers slowly released their clench on his wrists as her body became limp and still. The pale light from the full moon above her dimmed and faded away, and a sleepy blanket of darkness began to cover her with its peaceful comfort.

So this was what it was like to die.

It wasn’t so bad, really.

Blinking once, she relaxed and succumbed to the darkness.

The last sight her mortal eyes took in before the twilight of death clouded them was his broad Cheshire grin, hovering just above the water’s surface.

#BookBlast Perfect Fit by @LyndaMSimmons

Lynda Simmons is a writer by day, college instructor by night and a late sleeper on weekends. She grew up in Toronto reading Greek mythology, bringing home stray cats and making up stories about bodies in the basement. From an early age, her family knew she would either end up as a writer or the old lady with a hundred cats. As luck would have it, she married a man with allergies so writing it was.

With two daughters to raise, Lynda and her husband moved into a lovely two storey mortgage in Burlington, a small city on the water just outside Toronto. While the girls are grown and gone, Lynda and her husband are still there. And yes, there is a cat – a beautiful, if spoiled, Birman.

When she’s not writing or teaching, Lynda gives serious thought to using the treadmill in her basement. Fortunately, she’s found that if she waits long enough, something urgent will pop up and save her - like a phone call or an e-mail or a whistling kettle. Or even that cat just looking for a little more attention!

Amanda snapped on her gear and opened the front door. “That was chance. But this.” She picked up a couple of bags. “This is fate.”

Rachel stopped in the doorway. “Do you really believe that? Do you think it’s possible for two people to be des¬tined for each other? Like soul mates.” She shook her head. “Forget it. Let’s go.”

Amanda blocked the way. “Who did you meet?”

“No one, and I’m late.”

Amanda planted her skates sideways. “You cannot do this. Not after I told you about the real estate broker.”

Rachel looked through the fringe of Amanda’s bangs into her frank green eyes and wondered if she should take a chance. “Let me ask you this. Have you ever heard of dreaming on a piece of wedding cake?”

“Sure, it’s an old custom. Like walking to church because it’s lucky and passing on a green wedding gown because it’s not. But most people serve the cake for dessert these days.”

Rachel tried a smile. “Not all.”

“Someone gave you cake to dream on?” Rachel nodded and it was Amanda’s turn to laugh. “Don’t tell me you did it.”

When Rachel didn’t answer, Amanda’s mouth dropped open and her voice rose. “You did, didn’t you?” She put the bags down. “Okay, I need details. Did you have a dream?”

It was on the tip of Rachel’s tongue to say no, to deny that anything out of the ordinary had occurred. But she found herself nodding and watched Amanda’s eyes grow even rounder.

“Did you see him? The man you’re supposed to marry?”

Rachel took comfort in the fact that her friend had been sucked into the fantasy as easily as she had and nodded a third time.

Amanda stepped closer. “Alright, this next part is really important. Where exactly did they get this cake?”
