VIDEO I am who I am - Namewee

This is Namewee's latest song. He apologizes for being impulsive but says he will always be true to his art - he is who he is. Lyrics English/Malay/Chinese below.

Aku Tetap Aku
I am Who I am

Izinkan ku memperkenalkan diriku, nama saya ialah Namewee
My name is Namewee this is how I introduce myself
Sejak kecil lagi, cikgu ingatkan ku seorang yang suka buat hal
My teachers always thought I was looking for trouble
Aku suka menulis, aku benci formula dan ujian sekolah
I love literature but I hate the school system and all its exams
Aku lagi tak suka jika sesiapa komen kat style rambut ku
I get annoyed when people comment on my hair style
Pemikiran style aku, tiada orang boleh Ubahi
I was born with a mind that is beyond the control of others
Orang dewasa anggap aku ni degil dan tak matang
Adult always blamed me for being stubborn & naive
Aku tahu memang ada pelbagai caranya berurusan
I realized our society has its way of life
Tapi ia tak bermakna semua orang harus menjadi Konfusius
But that doesn’t mean all of us must become Confucius

Pada umur 15 tahun, aku discover muzik
Age of 15 I discovered the joy of music
Nota nota membantu ku lalui masa yang tak berdaya
Through its notes I find ways to express my thoughts
Aku cuba belajari seni tetapi ia tak membantu
I tried picking up art but it could not hold my inner feelings
Was loneliness created Van Gogh or Van Gogh created loneliness?
Tamat sekolah menengah, kebanyakkan orang cina mencari rezeki di luar Negara
Upon finishing high school Chinese must find ways to further their studies
Faced with challenges I decided to pursue my education in Taiwan
Ayah, mak jangan risau. Ku takkan buat kamu kecewa
Don’t worry mom and dad I promise not to fail you
Habis belajar nanti, mesti saya balik ke Negara tercinta
I will return to my beloved home when I graduate
Ku akan hidup dengan baik
I will be fine I must stay strong
Apabila rindu kat keluarga, ku akan terus cipta lagu
When I lone for home I turn on my PC and started writing
Bendera Malaysia yang gantung kat dinding menjadi inspirasi ku
My Malaysian flag on the wall keeping my spirit alive
Gambar keluarga kat tepi katil tetap membuatkan ku lebih tabah
My family portrait beside my bed keeping my strong
As a foreigner living in a strange country I learn to become independent
Aku buat banyak kerja sambilan, ku hadap banyak gagalan
I took up many jobs to pay my bills and tuition fees
Tak semestinya betapa susahnya, ku masih ditemani muzik
When times were tough at least I still had my music with me
Impian ku tidak berubah, kerana aku tetap aku
My dream did not change, I am still who I am

Aku akan berusaha mencapai impian ku sendiri
I have my own dream I will keep going
walaupun sunyi
Even it’s a lonely path
Please forgive me for being impulsive, I will be fine
(percayalah, aku tetap aku)
Believe me I am still who I am
Aku tak takut hujan lebat membanjiri ku
I’m not afraid the obstacles cos it will not drown me
Aku tetap akan berusaha
I will keep moving forward
Even if it is a journey of no return I will not give up
(percayalah, aku tetap aku)
Believe me I am still who I am

Summer came late in the year 2007
Mengubah lagu negaraku membuatkan hidupan ku berubah
My life was forever changed with my national anthem song
Melalui internet, aku menghadapi masalah
I got into trouble through the cyber space
I was misunderstood and got accused of betraying my country
My life was threaten and I even was told I cannot come home
Saya dipaksa mengaku salah, orang kuat semua keluar menunjuk muka
I was pushed into the limelight by influential people trying to gain fame
Pihak media dari seluruh dunia tak berhenti call saya
Media got into the action and suddenly international reporters started calling me
Aku mesti tabah
I had to learn to stay calm
Gosip angin semakin banyak, membuatkan ku makin risau
Rumours started flowing and my heart started pounding
Saya juga terima peta haram tunjuk aku hilangkan diri
I even received maps with international escape routes
Ayah mak, ku minta maaf .. Janganlah kamu sedih
Sorry mom and dad please don’t be sad
I have not taken down the flag hanging in my bedroom
My youtube video broke records and my face made newspaper covers
Ada orang suka dan ada orang benci. Aku mengahadapi ujian yang sukar ini
I got cheered and got booed I must learn to face the music now
Kisah aku dicatat oleh penulis buku
My story was documented into a book
Muka aku dilukis sebagai kartoon
My face even got drawn into cartoon characters
Banyak pujiaan dan hinaan ku alami, tapi ia bukan segalanya
I wished that all the fame and criticism would die down some day
Lepas ku tamatkan pengajian, aku membuat keputusan menghadapi semua salah faham
Upon graduation I decided to return to my beloved country
With only land routes I walked across 6 countries to come home
I even shot a documentary on my challenging journey
Thought every step was tought I finally came home to Malaysia
I got called to police station and faced many media interviews
Walaupun banyak anggap ku sebagai orang famous
Even though most think of me as public personality
Tapi aku mesti tabah, aku mesti tetap dengan ciptaan lagu ku
But I stayed true to myself to retain my creative art

Aku akan berusaha mencapai impian ku sendiri
I have my own dream I will keep going
walaupun sunyi
Even it’s a lonely path
Please forgive me for being impulsive, I will be fine
(percayalah, aku tetap aku)
Believe me I am still who I am
Aku tak takut hujan lebat membanjiri ku
I’m not afraid the obstacles cos it will not drown me
Aku tetap akan berusaha
I will keep moving forward
Even if it is a journey of no return I will not give up
(percayalah, aku tetap aku)
Believe me I am still who I am

People criticized my songs for poisoning the younger generation
Some said my mind is full of dirty thoughts
Mengatakan aku ni merosakan moral masyarakat
That I have bad morel in the civil society
Some just blamed me for becoming his son’s idol
Aku dah biasa menghadapi semua halangan ini
I am used to faced difficult situations
Keeping silent is my best defense and response
Aku tak suka menjadi kikuk depan orang
Putting a fake face is never an option for me
Sekarang aku keluar, susah sangat boleh menjadi diri sendiri lagi
I can no longer be myself when I go out
Tiap-tiap hari aku terima email dari orang lain tuk mengeluh
People write to me pleading for help everyday
Tapi aku tak berupaya kerana aku bukan pihak kerajaan
I just cannot do much because I am not the government
Some come to my Facebook supporting and slandering me
I didn’t delete because it is their freedom of speech
Aku nak bagi kau dengar, aku nak bagi kau Nampak
I want you to listen and I want you to see
The messages I convey through my voice, my film and my music
Adalah kebebasan bicara
Walking the fine line in freedom of speech
Which is something the mainstream media can never understand
I stand from a different point and I will not stop
This path is a gift from god
Kau mengatakan aku bingung, malah kau ingin menyakinkan ku dengan ayatmu
You claimed that I am lost and want to brainwash me
Minta maaf, aku tetap aku. Inilah sikap ku
Sorry, I am still who I am, and this is my attitude
Aku memulakan kehidupan baru di Kuala Lumpur
I am starting new life in Kuala Lumpur
It is crowded here and the roads are full of potholes
If I’m not careful things may just get out of control
The path is not easy but I do not have a choice anymore

(Aku tetap aku aku masih aku)
Because I am still who I am

Aku akan berusaha mencapai impian ku sendiri
I have my own dream and I will go for it

Perkasa, Utusan all riled up over Nik Aziz's statement

KOTA BHARU, Sept 20 : PAS Murshidul Am Tuan Guru Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat’s statement that he was proud to be a Muslim but not a Malay has drawn reactions from the usual group of people, namely Perkasa and its mouthpiece, Utusan Malaysia.

The Malay daily, known for its extensive coverage dedicated to the issue of Malay dominance, suggested that the Kelantan Menteri Besar had forsaken the fight for Malays.

"While there are efforts to eliminate special rights of Malays, Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said he was not proud of being a Malay," said the staunchly right-wing UMNO-owned Mingguan Malaysia, Utusan's weekend edition.

Its political cartoon column, Senyum Kambing, also took issue with Nik Aziz's statement.

For his part, Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali said he was not surprised with Nik Aziz’s statement, saying the latter had revealed his true identity as someone who used religion to attract non-Malay voters.

At a dialogue-cum-Hari Raya gathering with journalists recently, Nik Aziz said a Muslim's Islamic identity was more important than his race.

“I am not proud to be Malay. Race comes automatically and in Islam there is no longer (the issue of) race,” he was quoted as saying.

He said the Kelantan state government had spent RM7 million to build a mosque based on Chinese architecture in Rantau Panjang in its effort to rid the problem of racism in society.

Meanwhile, Nik Aziz’s press secretary Ahmad Fadhli Shaari chided Utusan’s failure to grasp "such simple statement".

“What Tuan Guru Nik Aziz is saying was I’m not proud to be Malay, but I am proud to be Muslim. All sane people know how to evaluate the statement. It seems that Mingguan Malaysia does not belong to the group,” he quipped.

Kelantan perlukan Nik Aziz

Nik Aziz lawat keluarga Sosilawati

In defense of Lee Kuan Yew : Don't be 'Bodoh Sombong'

Malaysian leaders including Mahathir slammed Kuan Yew

Dinesweri Puspanadan, Malaysia Chronicle

For days now, the media has been filled with remarks and criticism channeled against Lee Kuan Yew, Minister Mentor of Singapore, for his remarks about Malaysia during his interview with New York Times. Despite the fact that he actually shared many mind-striking thoughts, as usual, some Malaysians still chose to slam LKY and blamed him for 'trying to disrupt the unity' in Malaysia.

But let’s call a spade as spade. Malaysia has experienced an 81 percent drop in FDI and is suffering from a disastrous deficit to the extent that subsidies have to be removed. Even neighboring countries which were not in the race before are picking up the momentum and registering higher FDI than us. Foreign investors and economists have warned that Malaysia needs to change its policies and be more flexible in order to improve its economy. Some even hint that Malaysia is going the way of Greece.

The latest QS Asian University Rankings 2010 shows that Malaysia's premier university was kicked out from the top 200 rankings, signaling a decline in the standards and international standing of Malaysian public universities. It is time to admit this bitter truth that we are not developing talents but making them leave for green pastures both economically and socially. Statistics on brain drain alarms everyone as the number of students leaving this country is beefing up each year.

The phenomenon of racism is rampant. Many do not hesitate to slam the Chinese and Indians by labeling them as 'Pendatang' whenever they speak up on the government's policies and call for equality. They are shut up with rusty and baseless rhetoric, the most popular being Article 153, 'Ketuanan Melayu' and 'Special Rights'. To our disappointment, those from the top right down to the bottom of the government who are barking about this are clueless and constitutionally illiterate. Why refuse any transformation? Don’t they know that implementing policies which surpass other ethnic groups are just another form of racial discrimination?

Freedom of speech and basic human rights are surpassed in the name of preserving unity among Malaysians. Where is the rationale if we do not have the right to talk, argue, and justify the issues and if we do so, draconian law like ISA used to 'mute' our voices?

Now, turning back to Lee Kuan Yew. With this current situation in Malaysia (and there still many not mentioned yet), do you still believe that he was wrong and his allegations were baseless?

Isn’t it time to admit the truth that we are marginalized according to race and our basic rights are axed? Malaysia may seem to stand proud in the eyes of the world with skyscrapers and other landscapes but only we know the truth that some of these are failed white elephant projects. Beneath this fake pride, hardcore poverty, incompetent graduates, corrupted administration, and politicians with narrowed minds are engulfing this nation and hindering its growth.

There is nothing wrong in considering LKY's remarks with an open mind. Why don’t we learn from Singapore instead of keep bashing them with baseless allegations? Are we better than Singapore in every aspect? Tepuk dada tanyalah selera.

Malaysian leaders seldom fail to introduce policies and slogans like 'Wawasan 2020','Malaysia Boleh', ' 1Malaysia', 'zero tolerance' - you name it. But without walking the talk. If Malaysians are still in denial and blame LKY as though he is bombarding us with 'false facts', then sorry to say that we will remain as jackasses and puppets who are only 'Jaguh Kampung'.

It does not require a person to study economics to be able to make sense of and analyze the contemporary status of Malaysia. What you need to do is to 'think'. Give a hit to that rotten brain and do the thinking at least now. It is better to be late than never. It is the time for us to be humble and learn from successful nations how to move forward, rather than being 'Bodoh Sombong'!

'Buah Cempedak di luar pagar,
Ambil galah tolong jolokkan,
Saya budak baru belajar,
Kalau salah tolong tunujukkan'

Movement lambasted for setting quit deadline for Taib

KUCHING : The chairman of grassroots-based Movement for Change, Sarawak (MoCS) Francis Siah was slammed for his ultimatum in demanding Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud to step down by August next year.

“Who is this Francis Siah and MoCS?” asked Peter Minos, who is deputy information chief of Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu.

He was reacting to comments made by Siah that appeared in FMT yesterday.

“And who has given him the power to usurp the wishes of the whole of Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu executive committee members and the 71 PBB branch chairmen throughout Sarawak who have passed a resolution that Taib will continue as PBB president and as chief minister?”

“Besides PBB members, there are many others including non-governmental organisations, associations, community leaders, Sarawak United People’s Party, Parti Rakyat Sarawak and Sarawak Democratic Party who have agreed with PBB that Taib must stay on as chief minister,” Minos added.

Yesterday Siah said MoCS had respectfully sent a request to Taib to step down as soon as possible as this was the general “consensus of the people of Sarawak that Taib has served long enough as chief minister”.

“He should step down as soon as possible, but we will give him till next August to do so,” Siah had said.

Blasting Siah for such a comment, Minos said: “I put it this way, if Taib is able and willing, why do we disturb him? Why pressure him to resign?

“It is not easy to get a seasoned, strong and wise leader like Taib.

“Who has Siah in mind?” asked Minos, pointing out that Siah should respect democratic and free wishes of the majority and the people. He added that Siah had no mandate to ask Taib to step down.

'Taib must step down by August next year'

PENANG : The Movement for Change, Sarawak (MoCS) wants Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud to step down by August next year.

“Today, MoCS respectfully sends this request to the chief minister. It is the general consensus of the people of Sarawak that Taib has served long enough as CM.

"He should step down as soon as possible but we will give him till next August to do so,” its leader Francis Paul Siah said at a NGO-sponsored event in Penang last night.

“We still accord him due respect as the chief minister, but MoCS may not be that respectful if he is still at the helm of the state Government by next August.

"Today, we humbly plead and ask him to seriously consider stepping down. If Taib remains stubborn and refuses to listen, we may have to resort to other courses of action when the time is up.

"Then, the request and plea will turn to demand. We hope we will not have to demand as it would be uncomfortable for the chief minister,” Siah told the gathering of Sarawakians and Penangites at the Malaysia Day celebrations organised by the Malaysian Election Observers Network (MEO-Net) at Weld Quay on the island.

Stating that the August date next year should give Taib ample time to plan his departure, Siah also said that date should also enable the long-serving chief minister to celebrate his final ego-boosting 30th anniversary as Sarawak CM.

“We all know that this is a man with a huge ego and we will allow him to have a final bash on March 26, 2011. After that, Taib should seriously look at his crystal ball and if it is not afraid to tell him the truth unlike his Sarawak BN lieutenants, it would surely suggest that he listens more to the loud voices of dissent from Sarawakians than to his political sycophants.”

'Emulate the people of Penang'

Elaborating on the August date, Siah pointed out that MoCS was formed to advocate a new political culture for the state and promote democratization and “MoCS realises that this evolution is only possible with Taib out of the scene”.

“We announced the formation of MoCS on Aug 13 and we gave ourselves one year to help start this process minus Abdul Taib Mahmud. We are serious in this quest.

"The people of Sarawak are serious and we hope the chief minister would be gracious enough to help us achieve our target without much agony and pain for all parties concerned,” he said.

On the recent PBB supreme council’s declaration of support for Taib to continue as chief minister, Siah laughed it off asking: “Do you seriously believe anyone in the PBB council dare to say ‘No’ to such a powerful and vindictive boss knowing that they could easily be buried politically the minute they challenge his authority.”
“On top of that, 20 or 30 people in the PBB supreme council do not represent 2.6 million Sarawakians,” he added.

Earlier in his speech, Siah urged Sarawakians to emulate the people of Penang by opting for changes and vote in a new government in the coming state elections. He said that Penangites had made a wise decision in the 2008 General Election.

“Today, Penangites are generally happy as Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng had performed admirably. There are noticeable changes with Lim’s more accountable and transparent administration.”

Siah added that he has relatives in Penang and “they have informed me that Penangites are generally very supportive of Lim and his plans of action for the state since taking office more than two years ago.

“So the people of Sarawak must cast their votes wisely in the coming state polls and elect sincere leaders of calibre who could help in the evolution towards a new political culture for the state - one that is free of corruption, nepotism and despotism,” he said.

Sabah, Sarawak losing points to KL

COMMENT Malaysia is 47 years old through the unification of Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore in 1963. (Singapore was separated from Malaysia in 1965.)

The Kuala Lumpur-Kota Kinabalu-Kuching relationship must be relooked because of the imbalance between the centre and the periphery.

Most importantly, the 20-Point Agreement has been largely ignored in making the Malaysia that we have today.

Initial attempts by Sabah first chief minister Fuad Stephens to do so resulted in him being made Australian High Commissioner.

As a result, there were regressions from Sabah’s 20-Point Agreement and Sarawak’s 18-Point Agreement as seen in the “Allah” controversy and the ban on the Malay language Bible.

Both agreements on religion state that there should be no state religion for Sabah and Sarawak.

The “Borneonisation” of the public service as agreed to in the deal has also been violated. Over the years, more public servants from the peninsula were transferred to Sabah to fill in the void.

What development?

Unfortunately, an ignorant Deputy Transport Minister Abdul Rahim Bakri recently stated that Sabahans in the interiors should be grateful as Sabah’s inclusion in Malaysia had ensured development in the state.

Using development as a bait is wrong because “development is the one term most used by politicians to cheat the people” (quoted from a Malayalam movie).

If development had indeed been provided, why is the road network in both states still bad? My brethren from both Sabah and Sarawak can attest to the fact that Sabah and Sarawak are two decades backwards compared to Peninsular Malaysia.

What development is Rahim speaking about when my brethren over there are still having difficulties to complete 11 years of education?

Contrary to Rahim’s statement, Kuala Lumpur has gained more than Kuching and Kota Kinabalu in the 47-year-old relationship.

The most recent evidence was Barisan Nasional’s slim majority in the 2008 general election, which was only made possible because of the safe deposit votes from Sabah and Sarawak.

In addition, the Mahathir administration should be “thanked” for initiating the IC project that created BN voters out of illegal immigrants from Indonesia and the Philippines

To address the imbalance, more autonomy should be accorded to Sabah and Sarawak. It can be initiated by increasing the petroleum royalty from the current 5% to 20%.

Secession by both Sabah and Sarawak is out of the question as it violates the agreement

Malaysia does not need Lee Kuan Yew's advice : Pak Lah

Lee Kuan Yew

KEPALA BATAS (Bernama) - Malaysia does not need any advice from Singapore's Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew because it has its own way of governing the country which comprises multi-racial people, said former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

He said the cultural diversification and racial composition in Malaysia was far different from that of Singapore.

"We are too different from Singapore and Lee's statement which criticized the system being practised in this country cannot be accepted because Malaysia has adopted a different set of approaches and measures in managing issues involving the cultures and religions of its multi-racial population," he told reporters after hosting an Aidilfitri open house here Saturday.

"Malaysia far bigger than Singapore"

Malaysia's 5th prime minister Abdullah Badawi

Lee, in an interview published in the New York Times on Sept 1, had criticised the governing system system practised in Malaysia and accused that Malaysia was not being fair and had been sidelining its minority ethnic groups.

In the interview, Lee also envisioned that Malaysia could have done much better if it was not separated from Singapore because the island republic had achieved outstanding racial harmony.

Abdullah, who is Kepala Batas Member of Parliament, also refuted Lee's allegation that Malaysia had been sidelining minority ethnic groups in the country.

"If we really did that (sidelining minority ethnic groups), Malaysia would have been in trouble all along. We never sidelined any ethnic groups because all of them are equally important to the country," he said.

Unlike Singapore, Abdullah said, Malaysia was far bigger and consisted of various races and ethnic groups including those in Sabah and Sarawak.

"So far, there is no issue of certain races being sidelined and the government has always been fair to all races," he added.

"Tinggal lagi, ulama menyampaikan dakwah melalui lisan manakala wartawan menyebarkan maklumat melalui mata pena.

Hadir sama, Pengarah Urusetia Penerangan Kerajaan Negeri Abdul Rahman Yunus dan Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif Pembangunan Ladang Rakyat Dr Azmi Razali Azmi.

Sarawakians have only themselves to blame

(Hornbill Unleashed) - "Whose fault is it that Barisan Nasional wins at every election giving Abdul Taib Mahmud the chance to continue ruling Sarawak as chief minister?”

After 47 years of Merdeka, said Kayan Cultural Association president Miku Loyang, it is the fault of the Sarawakians themselves that their communities are now unable to even step foot into their ancestors’ land because of the Bakun Dam development.

“Who is wrong? No one but us, even though the government (BN) is like this, we still vote it in every general election,” said Miku, 68, from Balui Liko, Ulu Bakun, who is now resettled in Sungai Asap.

“I am angry. I want to vote against them. We will quietly and nicely place our crosses in the right slots,” added Miku, who was a civil servant and became Belaga councillor before his retirement.

However, Miku, who has been a polling agent before, conceded that it was massive challenge to register voters in the interior of Sarawak due to the blockades placed by logging companies along the roads leading to the villages.

He said that many were not registered as voters and that change could come about only when there were enough young voters casting their ballots.

Miku and three others, including his spouse Saran Juna, 61, a traditional Ngajat dancer, son-in-law Bengo Telang, 56 and Kuit Kilah, 55, from the Penan community, were in Penang to perform several songs and dances at an event organised by Malaysian Elections Observers Network (MEO-Net).

Voter registration, a sign of the times

MEO-Net coordinator, social activist Ong Boon Keong, said the performance, attended by about 100 people, was also part of the group’s Sarawak Road Show first anniversary celebration.

The road show organises monthly trips to the state’s interior to conduct voter registration and education and is supported by other groups, including Malaysian Trades Union Congress, Tanjung Bungah Residents Association, Suaram Penang, Penang Graduates Youth Association, Penang Chinese Journalists Association and Kenyalang Power Intiatiive.

The performers are in Kuala Lumpur today and will be performing at the Central Market Annex before leaving for Sarawak tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Kiut, formerly from Murum and now resettled in Sg Asap with 40 other Penan families, said he has not met with any YBs (parliamentarians or state assemblypersons) although he has been voting for years.

“Where are they, the chief minister and the YBs? They do not seem visible though I have been voting for them before,” said Kiut, who nows lives in a makeshift chicken coop and has untold sad stories to share about his life in Sarawak.

Telang, a Kayan farmer resettled in Sungai Asap, shared his heart-rending tale about the daily sufferings of the indigenous communities since the Bakun Dam project shattered their lives.

He said Malaysia Day held no meaning for him, although he should be very happy that Malaysia, including Sabah and Sarawak, had gained independence from the British 47 years ago.

“I cannot begin to tell you how sad our stories are, words cannot describe our sadness, we have been cheated over and over again,” said Telang, who sings traditional Kayan songs.

“Our homes have disappeared and we cannot even hunt or gather food for our families; we have not been compensated when they took our homes away and now we are asked to pay for a poorly constructed house in Sungai Asap,” he lamented.

“There is no point for Sarawak to be independent within Malaysia (if the situation is like this for the indigenous communities), there is no difference from being under the colonial rule of the British,” Telang added.

PAS : Khir patut lupakan hasrat kembali jadi MB Selangor
