Dwayne is the birthday cake decorator in our family. He's much more careful and patient than I could ever be with that kind of project. I realized as he was laying a new tile floor in our laundry room how cake decorating and tiling were quite similar. He enjoys both and does a great job, so I'm just grateful neither task falls on me.
Simon loved his cake, especially the action figures decorating the top. He turned five in January. It's going by so quickly! We had a small party at my parents' after a Sunday dinner.

Fortunately I didn't confuse the grout or thin set with the frosting. It is fun to do this and I'm one to rarely turn down sugar.
awesome. the boys would be so jealous. except their b-days haven't passed. . . so that means I have time to plan something good. I'm thinking we're not going to have many "friend" parties but we'll maximize family festivities and b-days with our kids. It was getting really rediculous for a while there when I invited every one of my friends (and obviously their kids), and making at least 3-4 cakes to share with people, and sometimes providing dinner on top of it. and then I thought, "I'm making this about everyone else and not my child, I need to change something here."
and I know you really wanted to know that. that was random. I guess all I'm saying is, now I'll have more time to dedicate to cakes and party plans since I won't be concerned with inviting our whole neighborhood to celebrate with us! haha.
Cool cake. He has some SERIOUS skills.
