The Národní Divadlo or the National Theatre in Prague is a national monument of Czech history and art. It opened in 1881 but a fire necessitated a major renovation and it opened again in 1883. It was most recently renovated in 1993. Today, this historic and beautiful building, together with the annex of a modern office building which also includes the main box office, represents the main stage of the three artistic ensembles of the National Theatre: the drama, opera and ballet.

Prague Boat Trip on the Vltava
Part of our tour of Prague included a boat ride on the Vltava River, also known as the Moldau. If I could add music to this page, you'd be listening to Bedrich Smetana's "Vltava", some of my favorite music. We saw the Powder Tower, stands on the site of one of the original 13 gates to the city. Kings passed through here on their way to coronation at Saint Vitus Cathedral. It came by its name when it served as a gunpowder storge space in the 17th century. It was built in 1475 and renovated in the 1990s.
