"Sweet"

6 x 6"
oil on panel

I was in the De Young Museum in San Francisco and a boy shrieked when he saw the painting of Superman by Mel Ramos - hardly able to contain himself.  When I saw, in person, Wayne Thiebaud's painting Dessert Tray in the Museum of Modern Art in New York City,  I didn't shriek but I felt the same excitement.  I l-u-r-v-e this painting.  I love every painting Wayne Thiebaud has done.

And it must be said, it was a total joy doing this new painting.

"Heaven"

8 x 6"
oil on panel
sold

It's not just that the artist, Wayne Thiebaud, paints cakes, pies, cupcakes, ice cream cones and a variety of splendid desserts - he brushes on paint as if he were applying icing.  He swirls.  He wiggles.  And damn if every stroke and every touch of color, often unexpected color, is perfection. The last time I was at the National Gallery of Art in DC, I stood just as close as this woman and thought this is heaven.

To mention, this is another small study for a larger painting.  And I really can't wait to start.

"Fond Memories"

5 x 7"
oil on panel
sold

Now that I'm back in 'Calorie Prison' (please refer to this post for a definition), I vicariously relived cherry cheesecake with oil paints.

And if you're interested in the process of this painting, I included a new post on my blog Karin Jurick Paints.  And thanks to all of you who commented on my new blog.

"Berry Yummy"

6 x 6"
oil on masonite
sold

This was fun to paint - an addition to my series ATL to NYC & Back - an ode to blueberry pie. Our long road trip home included a stopover visit with family on Memorial Day, including good company, good food and a slice of homemade blueberry pie that Brett's mom made for us which was incredibly delicious.

"The Red Queen's Tarts"

6 x 6"

I'm not quite back in the driver's seat, my beloved Mac should come home tomorrow. It's been an agonizing 10 days without it, I liken it to having all the ingredients for a cake and no oven to bake it in. My Mac contains programs that I don't have anywhere else, including Photoshop, which enables me to get the most accurate image of my paintings. That's a big thing - the presentation matters. You can paint 100's of pieces and it doesn't mean squat if you can't present it well.

I do have a laptop.... but the Photoshop Express version I had wasn't cutting it. I took a gamble and upgraded to version 9, and for those out there who need a good photo editing program and can't afford the full version of Photoshop CS, this does the trick. Now I'm able to post an image that I know is right.

About the latest, I continue on with my series ATL to NYC & Back - after we left Madison Square Park, where we petted lots of happy dogs (which will be a series included in my upcoming October show) we went into Eataly, a mega-gourmet foods market. It was dazzling to the senses, I loved that place. These artful, sweet desserts were on display in the bakery. Brett suggested the title, he had just watched Alice in Wonderland, and I thought it was perfect.

"Escape of the Orange Sprinkle"

8 x 8"

It's a holiday and I felt like a silly title. And I had great fun painting cupcakes and sprinkles - a subject matter that can be painted a hundred different ways. Also the current challenge on my Different Strokes From Different Folks blog, where you'll see those hundred different ways.

"Chocolate Covered Cheesecake"

6 x 6"
oil on masonite
sold

The last of the three artfully decorated cheesecake slices that I helped devour on New Year's Eve. The chocolate was that yummy hard-shell kind, like on Dairy Queen cones. The same was on the Chocolate-Cherry Glazed slice. Sooooo good.

My happy news is that I have officially finished all the paintings for my February show at Howard/Mandville Gallery, one month to the date. Seventeen pieces, which you'll be able to view in a couple of weeks. You'll see six of them in the February issue of American Art Collector Magazine - are you ready for this - they wrote a featured article on my work. Yikes.

"Cherry-Topped Cheesecake"

Ode to cheesecake - the second of three paintings resulting from my New Year's Eve splurge. Back on Weight Watchers, I can now count down the weeks until I treat myself again, on my birthday. Until then, I live vicariously through art.

"Chocolate & Cherry Glazed Cheesecake"

6 x 6"
oil on masonite
sold

This beautiful, sculptured work of sweetness was one of three slices of cheesecake that I helped devour on New Year's Eve. Before I went back to counting calories.

It gives me great pleasure to paint these ....... somewhat similar to one of my favorite artists, Wayne Thiebaud. Thick, rounded shapes with lots of color - giving honor to a gorgeous dessert.
