September Control Freaks Blog Tour: Autumn/Halloween Projects

Whether you are coming from the creative and talented Debbie Henderson's blog or just joining us -- welcome to the September 2019 Control Freaks Blog Tour! Our theme this month is Autumn and Halloween. I'm sure you'll be inspired by the projects we have to share.

This week was my monthly stamp club. We always make three projects, so I did one for Halloween, one or fall, and one for Christmas. I CASEd the Halloween project from Susan Campfield. She shared her adorable Halloween themed Mini Curvy Keepsake boxes on the Demonstrator Planning Place Facebook Group. I love this group for sharing project ideas and product tips!

Stampin' Up! Harvest Hellos Halloween Pumpkin Mini Curvy Keepsake Box ~ CASEd from Susan Campfield ~ www.juliedavison.com

This entire project came from just a half sheet of cardstock! 5-1/2" x 5-1/2" to die cut the box and then rest of it was used to stamp and punch the pumpkins from the Harvest Hellos stamp set. You can fit a small gift or a few pieces of candy in this cute box!

I am playing with the Gather Together bundle to create cards for my September Stamp of the Month Club card kit and designed this extra card for Stamp Club. There are three dies in the Gathered Leaves Dies set that emboss and cut at the same time. To add some extra dimension to your project, press the die into an ink pad before die cutting. It's a really cool effect! And look how beautiful these colors are together: Pretty Peacock and Pear Pizzazz!

There are so many goodies in this catalog! In fact, this catalog is 10 pages bigger than the Occasions Catalog! Today I am highlighting two of my favorite punch bundles using a fun fold that I have been obsessed with lately. Check out these Peek-a-boo Flip Cards! Which one is your favorite?

These cards are so fun! Pull the tag and the first image flips up to reveal the sentiment underneath! Here are the cardstock measurements you need:
  • 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" Card Base
  • 3-1/2" x 4 1/4" Layer
    • Punch a slit in the middle with the Classic Label Punch
  • 2" x 5-3/4" Tag
    • Score at 3-1/2" and 4".
    • Punch the long end with the Delightful Tag Topper Punch.
  • 1-1/2" x 1-3/4" Inside Piece
Directions:
  • Feed the tag through the Classic Label slit so that the tag end is in the back.
  • Stamp and layer the focal point. Adhere it to the 1/2" second of the tag using Tear & Tape.
  • Stamp and adhere the inside piece on straight end of the tag.
  • Use a single piece of Tear & Tape on the back of that straight end to stick the tag to the front of the card, centering the focal point on the larger layer.
The Peekaboo Flip Card is much easier than it looks and sounds, so be sure to check out my video tutorial! You're going to love it! Here's my second card featuring the Merry Moose stamp set.

Simple to Stepped Up with Sailing Home

Whether you are coming from the creative and talented Melissa Stout's or just joining us -- welcome to the July 2019 Control Freaks Blog Tour! I am super excited about our theme this month! It's Simple to Stepped Up! We are highlighting simple projects for any stamper and then showing how to step it up with additional stamping supplies. So whether you are a brand new stamper, a casual stamper with a small collection, or an avid crafter like me who has it all -- we've got you covered!

I am featuring the Come Sail Away Suite with three different cards. The first one is very, very simple. Stamps, ink, and paper! I love the Notecards & Envelopes for quick and easy cards like this one.

Using the same ink and stamps, I added some of the coordinating Come Sail Away Designer Paper, a punch, and some twine. This is still a pretty clean and simple card, but includes easy layering.

You could use a pair of scissors or the Triple Banner Punch to cut the banner tip in this 2" tag, but I love this tip that my friend Monica showed me. You can use the #145567 Tailored Tag Punch to punch a banner tip -- or a pointed tip -- in addition to punching a fun tag shape. This versatile punch is a must-have!

For my last "stepped up" card, I added the Smooth Sailing dies to cut out the stamped image and add embellishment. I also used one of the Sail Away trinkets, tied with a piece of twine.

Control Freaks Blog Tour: Goodbye Old Friends

Whether you are coming from the creative and talented Dawn Olchefske's blog or just joining us -- welcome to the May 2019 Control Freaks Blog Tour! Our theme this month is Goodbye Old Friends. We are showcasing some of our favorite Last Chance products before they retire in two weeks. Make sure to order these goodies before June 3!

I am excited to share another fun fold card with you today! I just did a Facebook Live for this card on Friday. This is called a Double Z Fold Card. It's easy peasy! Even though the Petal Palette (#145788) wasn't designed for this paper, it coordinates perfectly! If you don't have this stamp set yet, add it to your wish list! It has a great combination of sentiments and spring images!

  • 3-1/4" x 10" Basic Black Cardstock, scored at 4-1/2" and 7-1/4"
  • 3" x 4-1/4" Share What You Love Designer Paper
  • 3" x 2-1/2" Share What You Love Designer Paper
  • 3" x 2-1/2" Whisper White Cardstock
Once you decorate the front Z fold, attach it to the card base -- only using adhesive along the two sides and not in the middle.

Check back tomorrow for a link to my video tutorial and photos of my Everything is Rosy Z Fold Card!

Although the second card doesn't have a fun fold, I love this clean and simple design and the opportunity to feature one of my favorite designer papers and embossing folders which are both retiring. And I still can't believe the Treat Time stamp set (#146626) is retiring after only one year! The sentiments in this stamp set will fit into your favorite circle or tag punch perfectly! I think many people overlooked this versatile stamp set, so be sure to check it out before it's gone!

Control Freaks Blog Tour: Masculine Fun Fold Cards with Classic Garage

Whether you are coming from the creative and talented Wendy Weixler's blog or just joining us -- welcome to the April 2019 Control Freaks Blog Tour! Our theme this month is For the Men -- Masculine cards for all the men in your life!

I am excited to share two fun folds with you today! The cards are very similar. The first one is an explosion card and the second one includes a miniature version of the first one INSIDE the card! I'm calling it an Exploding Pop-Up Card.

Here's the Explosion Card closed. I tied a ribbon around the entire card to keep it closed.

You can see the unique fold as you start to open the card.
Control Freaks Blog Tour: Masculine Fun Fold Cards with Stampin' Up! Classic Garage ~ Geared Up Garage ~ www.juliedavison.com
It opens up to the full 8" x 8" square. The scoring measurements are very simple. Score at 4" on each side. Then score on one diagonal. Start by folding the diagonal in half away from you. Open it back up. Then fold on a straight score line toward you. Open it back up and fold on the other straight line toward you. Now the card is primed and ready to fold back on to itself. Use a bone folder to get good creases.

Check out the inside panel! I used the Embossing Mats with the Garage Gears Thinlit Dies to create this embossed look. The Embossing Mats are retiring, so be sure to get this Big Shot accessory before it's gone!

Once you've made the Explosion Card, the Exploding Pop Up Card is a piece of cake! Here is the outside of my card. I used the same color scheme as the first card: Tranquil Tide, Basic Black, and Crushed Curry. I love this Classic Garage Designer Paper! It's so easy to make masculine cards with colors that pop!
Control Freaks Blog Tour: Masculine Fun Fold Cards with Stampin' Up! Classic Garage ~ Geared Up Garage ~ www.juliedavison.com
The inside is just a mini Explosion Card! The inside piece is 4" x 4", scored at 2" from either side and then one diagonal. Use the same folding instructions as above. Collapse the insider piece and glue one side at a time so that the point of the diamond is just inside the center score line.

Control Freaks Blog Tour: 3 Beautiful Blizzard Projects

Whether you are coming from the creative and talented Melissa Stout's blog or just joining us -- welcome to the November 2018 Control Freaks Blog Tour! Our theme this month is Home for the Holidays! Although I haven't started decorating for Christmas yet, I've definitely been crafting for Christmas! We have some amazing products in the Holiday Catalog this year. Unfortunately, many of them are already selling out because they have been so popular, so don't wait to stock up on your favorite holiday goodies!

Tonight I am sharing projects that I created with the Beautiful Blizzard bundle. There is a new snowflake stamp set and thinlit die set available in November, but these projects all use the set in the Holiday Catalog. The Blizzard Thinlit is one large die that cuts many snowflakes at once. When I started playing with this bundle back in August, I cut out one pieces each of Balmy Blue, Blueberry Bushel, Whisper White, and Silver Foil. Not only did I have a bunch of snowflakes to use, I also had four gorgeous background pieces.

My first card is pretty simple. I layered the "negative" of the Balmy Blue die cut piece (4" x 5-1/4") on to a Blueberry Bushel card base and added the sentiment on layered circles.

I love the new Baker's Boxes available in the Holiday Catalog. They are food-safe and a good size to share a yummy treat or gift. The top of the box has a clear window. I attached the Silver foil "negative" die cut piece to the inside of the box so that it would show through the window and then added the double ribbon bow and tag.

My last card is also clean and simple. I layered a piece of Vellum Cardstock (3-3/4" x 5") over the Blueberry Bushel card base and then layered different color snowflakes on the 1-3/8" Scallop Circle punches. Tip: Place the center circle first and then space the ends.

Control Freaks Blog Tour: 3 Fall Projects

Whether you are coming from the creative and talented Cindy Elam's blog or just joining us -- welcome to the October 2018 Control Freaks Blog Tour! Our theme this month is Fall! It's one of my favorite seasons! I love the cooler weather and the gorgeous colors of the changing leaves.

Today, I have three projects to share with you today. The first one uses the new Winter Woods stamp set from the Holiday Catalog. I made this card for a challenge that my upline had last month -- to create a card using Brusho. It's been a few months since Brusho debuted and I have to say that I've kind of forgotten about it. But a Brusho Background is perfect for fall! I spritzed water on a piece of watercolor paper and then sprinkled on the Brusho. To help the color spread, I spritzed more water. Allow it to dry thoroughly before you stamp the trees. I suggest using Staz-On ink so that there is no chance of the ink running. If you prefer a bolder image, try heat embossing!

I didn't purchase any of the fall-themed stamp sets from the Holiday Catalog, but I do have the Warm Hearted host stamp set and that's where this "Thanks" comes from. I like this set because it includes sentiments for multiples occasions. You can pick it out with host rewards when you order $150 or host a qualifying party. I used one of my favorite punches, the leaf punch, to accent the stamped sentiment and tie in the leaves from the designer paper.

Stampin' Up! Supplies: Warm Hearted stamp set, Cajun Craze ink & cardstock, Crumb Cake cardstock, Old Olive cardstock, Very Vanilla cardstock, Country Lane Designer Paper, Leaf Punch, Linen Thread

For my last project, I used the gorgeous new Joyous Noel designer paper. Even though this designer paper is intended to be for Christmas, the colors also work so perfectly for autumn! I decorated this Copper Tin (for the annual catalog) with a 2" x 12" strip of designer paper and used Tear & Tape to stick it back on to itself. I put the seam in the front so I could cover it up with the embellishment. Have you gotten the new Sprig Punch yet? It's so perfect in Copper Foil cardstock. Although the punch is currently on backorder, it should be in stock and start shipping next week. (Note: The Joyous Noel Designer Paper is also backordered and will not ship until around November 5.)
