Bird Figurines Series - # 33

Do you have an item for a particular purpose but you refuse to use it in that way?  Well, there are several items in my bird figurine collection that fall in this category.  One of them is this swan which is really a candlestick.  Janine and I were thrilled when we received it as a gift many years ago. The pink reflection you see in the body is in fact a candle.  I am sure it would look beautiful lit but I don't plan on lighting it any time soon.

Bird Figurine Series - # 17

Another bird that my twin and I were always happy to see on several Christmas cards was the European Robin.  We were therefore happy to receive a cute figurine of this lovely bird some years ago.

This week I am thrilled to be the featured friend at the wonderful Aloha Friday Blog Hop.  Be sure to head over there and link up! Thanks to all the hosts and co-hosts.

Bird Figurine Series - # 8

Glass figurines have always been among our favourites so Janine and I were thrilled when our mother told us that we could put this one with our collection.  It was a gift she received from a friend over 35 years ago.  Mom knew it would be safe with our birds.

Bird Figurine Series - # 5

These roosters are among our favourites as they are so colourful.  You will notice that one features a clock. The clock no longer works but Janine and I decided that it had to remain in our collection.

Bird Figurine Series - # 4

This figurine became a part of our collection in the early years. I still remember that Easter trip that Janine and I took to the popular tourist resort of Ocho Rios. While shopping we could not resist this hen in  a basket!

Bird Figurine Series - # 3

These are toucans noted for their huge beaks!
Janine and I got these toucan figurines from our mother.  Toucans can be found in tropical forests extending from Central America to the Amazon valley. They got their name from the word 'tucano' in the language of the Tupi Indians of Brazil.  Their huge bills are not heavy as they are filled with a honeycomb-like cellular bony tissue.  However they are strong enough to crush the fruits that they mainly feed on.

Bird Figurine Series - # 2

This 8 piece set is a very special one in our collection. I can remember how thrilled Janine and I were when they arrived from her pen-pal Elvia in Washington many years ago. We love glass figurines and these are in our favourite colour, blue!

Bird Figurine Series - #1

About 15 years ago my twin sister Janine and I started a collection of bird figurines.  I have decided to share them in a Bird Figurine Series. These 2 cute little yellow birds started the collection. They were bought by our mother in the popular tourist resort of Ocho Rios.

Spot The Bird!

Janine and I have always had pictures of birds among our collection.  In the meantime I have considered taking pictures of birds some day. It has been difficult to get close enough to any bird but I managed to get some of the Cattle Egret.
