I was trying to decid on a New Year's Resolution for 2011 and finally I came up with something original and meaningful. From now on, I am going to warmly approach every man and woman I know, saying to them, "Let us penetrate each other's eyes and allow what's within to rise up, breach the surface and become the tasseled core of our friendship." It was about 4 AM when I created that brilliant concept and riding a wave of excitement, I ran to the door of my good next door neighbor. Through shear adrenalin and a bad nasal congestion, I blurted out my Resolution Phrase to his disheveled and confused face. His large fist came flying at
my face the same moment I realized that the word "eyes" came out sounding like "thighs".
Latter that morning, while my beloved wife was tending to my wounds, she said to me "Why don't you make a blog instead?" Actually, what she really said was "Why don't you visit your therapist anymore?" but I knew what she really meant.
So here it is, my very own BLOG! I figured since I was hogging-up the
shared blog my wife and I have with all my crap, it was time to make one of my own. Mostly what you'll see here is a focus on my craft of illustration and many a self promotion of my projects. So here's to a bright shinny New Year of . . . well . . . uh . . . ME!

I know, I know, "Shaddup and draw sometn' Josh!". Here ya go, jerks:
One reason being, that I grew up a big fan of the Chester Gould comic series it's based on. One of my treasured birthday presents I got when I was in grade school, was a large book titled the Celebrated Cases Of Dick Tracy. I still read through that collection every now and again. The character cameos and make-up effects in the movie are perfect in bringing these classic villains to life. It's obvious that the make-up and costume design team put great craftmanship into paying tribute to the art of Chester Gould. What I also love about this film is it's Production Design. The world is wonderfully stylized to fit the feel of the classic comic design and color palette. Every red is the same red, every blue the same blue. The production team adjusted the world to fit the look of the comic instead of vice versa. In a way, Dick Tracy was way ahead of it's time in doing this. Now we see it all the time in comic book movies, such as Sin City, 300, Watchmen, etc. I love that even the elements in the backgrounds (buildings, skylines, etc.) become more stylized and simplified in detail as they are "further away". Aside from the look I enjoy the casting, music, and editing. Very fun and aways a joy to watch every New Year.
