(this post had been saved as draft for god knows how long...)

Just a quick walk from the Red Dot Design Museum there is this most amazing Maxwell Road Hawker Centre.
You'd really need another (or a few more) stomach while in Singapore! I sometimes get a bit worried when buying food from markets or food stalls but in Singapore they are kept amazingly clean and we were really impressed! Ros had taken us earlier to another hawker center near Ann Siang Hill called Amoy Street Food Centre where we had the best fish ball noodle soup and some curry of the type I had never tried before anywhere, they were both really delicious and we could not have tried these if not for Ros!! We were very lucky :)

At the Maxwell Road Hawker Centre we had Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice and LOVED it. It was the best Singapore chicken rice we have ever tried and I can tell you that we have tried at so many places. I could eat it everyday, it was sooo good, was perfect. Once is not enough to go to each Hawker Center, we learned.

For the Chicken Rice we also tried Boon Tong Kee (thanks to the tip from Rebecca!), this place was also very special, if you prefer dining restaurant style then this is the place to go :) We tried the one in River Valley Rd as it was (kind of) close to our hotel but I want to try their other restaurant next time.

Another place that we loved from Rebecca's recommendation was YA HUA BAK KUT TEH EATING HOUSE. I had tried Bak Kut Teh once in Tokyo before but what this was completely different. 200 times better.

We also tried the black pepper crab at kind of a fancy restaurant in Orchard Road. There are too many things to try and enjoy! We also went up to a glittering place for dinner and drinks at one of those high rise buildings, it was fine, the night view of the city was amazing, but it was not really our kind of place. It was hard to tell where you are, if I didn't see Marina Bay Sands in a corner of my eye I could have thought we were somewhere in Shinjuku or Manhattan. If you know what I mean.

Reviewing and trying to finish this post I am getting hungry and now craving for some good Singaporean chicken rice.... Or another trip to Singapore! Can not wait to go back!

Now it's finally the end of my Singapore posts....! Now onto.....Kyoto trip (from January.. haaaaa!) !

I feel like some really good coffee now. I haven't had one for a while I realize. I thought I'd do another coffee post, most of these photos and cafe infos have been shared here before but now you can see them all in one post :)

01. cafe ohanaya - one of my favourite cafes in Jiyugaoka. they do lovely lunch using fresh vegetables from Kamakura. Italian style food and coffee, good selection of organic wines. Vey cosy and lovely but mostly packed with people especially busy hours like 12-3pm.

04. Cafe ikanika
You might have heard too much of it here if you are reading my blog for a while...
I'm missing their beautiful cheesecake!! See the previous post -->

05. Amameria Espresso
Musashikoyama may not be the area many of who visit Tokyo would go to, but they make great coffee.
If you are staying in Claska, it would be nice to take a morning walk to Musashikoyama (about 20mins) and also you can take a lovely forest walk in the Rinshi-no-mori Park on the way!

3-4 mins from Musashikoyama station (Meguro/Namboku Line), 1 stop from JR Yamanote Meguro Station.

09. Taste & Sense
Lovely cafe to have in the neighborhood for coffee and lunch!

10. Coffee at Home
We enjoy hand drip coffee on the weekend. We buy fresh coffee beans from Voila Coffee in Kagoshima, actually many of the great coffee places in Tokyo buy beans from them. They don't ship internationally but if live in Tokyo I recommend shopping from their online store :)

So, I feel like some really good coffee even more now.
Where is your favourite place for a really good cup of coffee in your city?

Hope you are enjoying summer, here it's boiling.... Keep cool!

UPDATED April 2017

This post is originally from 2013 and there have been countless of new coffee places opening all over Tokyo other than all above. My recent favourite is TORANOMON KOFFEE run by the same people of OMOTESANDO KOFFEE.

oktoberfest in komazawa park
After closing my shop on Sunday, we rushed to Komazawa Park where Oktoberfest German beer festival had been held. I know it's not October, and there has been just too many Oktoberfest happening in Tokyo almost all year round. I must say when I first heard about another one to be in Komazawa Park I thought Noooooo. But it was actually quite nice, really nice. The weather was just perfect for beer outside in the dusk. Even walking home was all fun, fatigue was gone.

The above instagram shot reminded me of this photo I took of another beer evening in Melbourne, about 5 years ago... That was also a good fun! I wonder if this place is still there?

My latest favourite lunch and coffee place in Nakameguro is TASTE & SENSE which is tucked inside a lovely store 1LDK aparments. I love taking a walk to this place from my house when I feel like having a good cup of coffee :)

I photographed for a beer bar newly opened in Ginza last month for work. The place is called beer lupulin and they serve Japanese craft beer (microbrewery) which is booming in Japan right now. The space is so lovely and cozy, nice and casual being in the heart of Ginza which is known as an expensive area to do anything. Their food is great too, but the kakigoori (shaved ice) they serve is something very special to mention - they use ice made of natural water from Nikko (天然氷)and today there are only a handful of places where you can have this kind of shaved ice in Tokyo. The ice is so fine and fluffy, it is remarkably delicious especially with the handmade Japanese ume plum sauce...! If you are in Ginza do drop by for some great beer and kakigoori, it's on the third floor of a building right in front of Dover Street Market - the very cool and much talked-about new spot in Ginza (if you love COMME des GARÇONS you must go check, rose bakery also on the 7th floor!).
