Danielle, Cari, Kim and I took all of our kids (7 in all) with no husbands on this camping trip. So, we had to do all of the manual labor ourselves. We made our own fires. (When I say "we" I mean, of course, Danielle.)
Cari and I slept in tents. If I was crafty on the computer I would use that pencil tool and draw on this picture, but please take a close look...See the tents? See the trees? See the road? Yep, that's the freeway. Let's just say Cari and I didn't sleep a wink that first night. The noise from the freeway was incredible. Not only that, but every time a semi drove by (and that was quite often) the freakin' ground shook too. I was ready to bail right then and there!! But, the next night I solved that problem, bought us some ear plugs and slept like a baby. The cocktail didn't hurt either!
We cooked all 3 meals each day. We (Danielle) even bar-b-qued!!
I refused to brush my teeth in the RV. I brushed my teeth out in nature like a real camper. Jason specifically asked for ugly pictures. Is that ugly enough?
Of course when you get 4 teachers together, we have a theme night! We had a 4th of July night and Kim bought things to make necklaces, tattoos, beach balls, airplanes, and glow sticks. We even all had matching shirts.
The kids had a blast. I am afraid I turned them into campers. Although they cried for their Daddy the first night in the tent, once they fell asleep they slept like babies. (I'd post those pictures too, but I know how sleeping pictures freak out Pumpkin Delight!!) There was a park right down the way from our camp site.
We rented this bike and the big kids took the little kids all around the park.
We played at the beach all day.
My girls loved having all of these big kids to play with. They even learned how to ride scooters. I am doing them a serious injustice in the athletic/outdoorsy department.
Don't even think we didn't make s'mores. Oh, yes we did!!
Not only that, but we made banana boats too. I know what you are thinking, fruit in a dessert isn't a dessert. (Or is that just me thinking that?) The bananas were stuffed with chocolate chips and marshmallows. No nutritional value there!!
So, are you proud of me or what? I slept in a tent, didn't shower, became one with nature, and survived to tell about it!!

I, for one, am very proud. I remember distinctly the last time we went to the Kern you said that you would never camp again. One marriage and two kids later, here you are. And next to a freeway no less! I know that the girls had fun because they can't stop talking about it. Say......scooters for their birthday! Great Blog!
Way to go! Now you know what would make great pictures? If you took Jason camping! Yeah, that would be hilarious! I triple dog dare you to take Jason camping!!!
You camped by the freeway?!!! You really did go all out trashy ;D
Good times. The stuff of which memories are made.
Except for the sleeping by the freeway part, you actually made camping look fun! And no, none of these pictures were nearly ugly enough.
This looks like it might be a fun tradition for ya'll to keep each year!
Forget the freeway...you had a playground, trees, firepit and a beach? How did you snag a space in a campground like that in the summer? I used to like Doheney but you had to reserve it like a year in advance.
You girls look like you had a ball, and the kids too. Is a banana boat a banana split? YUMMMMM
Yeah, make that a yearly tradition and take Jason...that will make your sitemeter needle go off the charts. I'd love to see a picture of Jason camping, who wouldn't?
I'm just asking...Who is the fox in the bandana?
For real people...If you saw Jen and Cari walk in the RV after that first night...that is the picture you were looking for Jason. I'm not kidding, it was worse than any night with a screaming newborn. They were TROOPERS! Also, she forgot to mention Tylenol PM and it was cocktails (plural).
Sounds like so much fun....I LOVE camping...
hey, here is an idea ...let's have a bloggers camping trip, kind of like the bossy gathering, but camping? too weird???
I love how Dani did all the she-woman tasks LOL :)
