Ghostbusters: Get Real #1 is the best comic that you'll read tomorrow. Guaranteed. No, I haven't read ALL of tomorrow's comics, but I've read a bunch, and this one is the best, by leaps and bounds. Erik Burnham works his usual magic telling not only a good Ghostbusters story, but he tells a great Ghostbusters story that features two DIFFERENT teams of the SAME Ghostbusters!!!!!
-Dan Schoening's artwork is amazing. You're honestly going to think that they used cels from The Real Ghostbusters TV show, but no, it's all him. DO NOT let this book get lost in the shuffle tomorrow. BUY IT!!!!!! And hey, if you're in Chicago....you KNOW who to call!!!

Time to GET REAL!!!!!
On June 17th, Ghostbusters fans get something they've only dreamed about. No, not a third movie. We get to find out what happens when the real Ghostbusters meet the Real Ghostbusters!!! Wait. Maybe I should rephrase that. How about, the "Reel Ghostbusters" meat the "Real Ghostbusters". Ah, screw it, the MOVIE Ghostbusters meet the CARTOON Ghostbusters. THERE! I've found a way to see it that's not that confusing. I think.
-Thanks to the creative team that brought us the past few years of awesome Ghostbusters comics, Erik Burnham, Dan Schoening, and Luis Delgado, we get Ghostbusters: Get Real from IDW Publishing. Editor Tom Waltz recently sat down with Diamond Comics Previews World and talked about the series. You can find that interview here.Make sure to take a second and check it out, it's a great read.
-As you might've guessed, I am REALLY looking forward to this mini-series, so make sure to stay tuned as I'll be covering this series in-depth. Who knows, there might even be some surprised along the way.
-There's two things that YOU'LL need to do. First, is take this code to your local comic retailer and tell them that you want them to order the comic and that you want it on your monthly subscription list. That code is: APR150362
-The second thing you'll need to do is watch this episode of The Real Ghostbusters, as it's important to the comic series. You can thank me later!

Ghostbusters Episode III A New Hope
Not too long ago, Sony announced a Ghostbusters film that I really don't give a shit about. Now, before you cry "sexist" or anything else, the reason that I don't care about Paul Feig's Ghostbusters movie is that it's a REBOOT and not connected to the first two films in any way, and mostly because NONE of the original creative team is on board. NOT because it's an all female cast.Ask yourself-who loves women MORE than Jimmy? Yup, nobody. that's who.
-But, word comes today that Sony has ANOTHER Ghostbusters film in the works, this one directed by the AWESOME team of Joe and Anthony Russo!!! Headlined by Channing Tatum (I know), from an idea from him, Dan Aykroyd and Ivan Reitman!!! It's uncertain whether or not this film be connected to the original films, but with Aykroyd and Reitman having any involvement, COUNT ME IN!!!! Also, Aykroyd and Reitman have just set up a new company at Sony called Ghostcorp, whose purpose it is to develop the Ghostbusters brand to movies, television, merchandise, and everything else that's prevalent in today's media. How awesome is that?
-Iron Man 3 writer Drew Pearce is writing the script for the new movie, and hopes to have it ready when the Russo Brothers have free time next summer, for release the summer after. Whatever happens, the future sure looks brighter for Ghostbusters than it has in a long, long time.
-Somebody needs to introduce ultimate Ghostbusters artist Dan Schoening to the folks over at Ghost Corp!!!!

GHOSTBUSTERS #1 REVIEW!!

Even though it's not out for about 3 weeks yet, I was lucky enought to read a copy of IDW Publishing's Ghostbusters #1 this evening. Written by Erik Burnham, who doesn't write enough comics(seriously, check out A-Team War Stories), with a back-up story by Tristan Jones, and edited by Tom Waltz (If you haven't read his new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles book yet, do it NOW!) the thing that will have EVERY "Ghosthead" cheering is that artist Dan Schoening is drawing this book. Schoening was every fans dream choice for penciler on this series, and IDW made the right choice.
-Now, I'm not about to give spoilers away in this review, so just wipe that thought outta your head. What I WILL tell you, is that we get to see the Ghostbusters do EVERYTHING that you want to see them doing. Hanging out in the firehouse exchanging snappy dialogue, investigating the paranormal, and yes, even busting some ghosts. It's got it all. We all know that Ghostbusters is one of the most quotable movies in history and quite often, with licensed comics, writers rely on movie dialogue as a crutch by going out of their way to put the characters in a position just so they can deliver that "classic" line from the movie that everyone loved. Thankfully, Burnham does NOT fall into that trap here. There's no "Nice shootin' Tex", "He slimed me" or "cats and dogs living together". What Burnham DOES capture is the spirit of the characters, dead on. As you read the comic, you can actually hear Bill Murray saying the Venkman dialogue. The story acknowledges the movies, but doesn't depend on them. There's nice nods to both Ghostbusters movies, and a couple of Easter eggs that hardcore fans will go nuts over. And the last page? EPIC.
-As far as the art goes, the word PERFECT comes to mind. Schoening is THE best Ghostbuster artist out there today. Or any other day, for that matter. You know how Carmine Infantino was born to draw The Flash? Or Mark Bagley was born to draw Spider-Man? Yeah, that's what we're talking about here, people. It's THAT good.
-It's hard to talk about the back-up story without giving up a big spoiler, so I'll just say this-it'll have you APPLAUDING when you read it. Hat's off to Tristan Jones, who is a heck of a talented guy.
-The thing that impressed me the most about this book was the "bonus" pages in the back. You can see just HOW MUCH work went into the comic and how deep the love is that the creators have for this property. And, it shows. In a big way. Whether your a HUGE Ghostbusters fan, or have just a passing interest after seeing the movie a couple of times on TV, you will LOVE this book. Hat's off to everyone involved for making THE. BEST. GHOSTBUSTERS. COMIC. EVER.
