Nike Air Zoom Structure 19: Stability at Unshakeably High Speed

Last Nov 28, I got invited to test the Nike Air Zoom Structure 19 on the track oval of the University of Makati.  The event was graced by fellow running bloggers.  Nike Philippines Country Marketing Manager, Mr. Patrick Reyes and Field Marketing Executive Ms. Ally Lim welcomed us, while EKIN* Mr. Andro Torres explained to us the features of the shoe.

*EKIN is NIKE spelled backwards.  Andro sure knows EVERYTHING about NIKE!
To fully understand and experience the features of the Nike Air Zoom Structure 19, Nike+ Run coaches Ico Ejercito and Ian Banzon led us to a track interval training.

Nike+ Run Coaches Ico Ejercito and Ian Banzon
In general, stability shoes are considered "heavy" given the materials added to provide cushioning and support the arches of the midsole to address overpronation.  But with the Nike Air Zoom Structure 19, the "heavy" feeling was eliminated, thanks to the triple-density Dynamic Support system, the Flywire cables in the midfoot, and Flymesh upper.

My present weight (210 lbs) further helped me evaluate the responsiveness of the shoe.  It was consistent in providing me the needed stability whenever we go fast, and more importantly as we go the distance.

I am used to neutral shoes, but with the Nike Air Zoom Structure 19, I feel more confident in covering longer distances at any weather condition.

Sharing to you the material below about the Nike Air Zoom Structure 19.

***Press Release***

At Nike, innovation is the name of the game. Since its early days, Bill Bowerman, a veteran track and field coach himself, worked towards creating the world’s best shoe, apparel, services, and experience for every athlete.

Nike accelerates innovation in running footwear through the new Air Zoom Structure 19—a stability shoe loaded with dynamic support and Nike’s Zoom Air technology to help athletes speed through the lined-up races this season.

The Nike Air Zoom Structure has long been known for its reliable support and responsiveness that keep runners going long and fast. This iteration builds on that tradition with updated, thicker Flywire cables in the midfoot for enhanced lockdown, as well as additional yarn in the Flymesh upper for greater structural support without limiting breathability.

Comfortable support meets increased stability with the triple-density Dynamic Support system that supports the foot as it transitions through footstrike, providing stability when it is needed. The Zoom Structure 19 delivers increased stability with highly responsive cushioning with the Nike Zoom Air forefoot unit for a quick, crisp toe-off.

The difference between the greatest runners and those in their wake is measured in fractions of a second. When dreams are realized in milliseconds, the Zoom Air—Nike’s fastest, most responsive cushioning platform—can change how fast an athlete feels in an instant.

Elite athletes like Mo Farah, Galen Rupp, and locally, Coach Rio Dela Cruz have more in common than their unbelievable speed and unwavering work ethic—when it comes to lacing up, they reach for Nike Zoom Air. The Nike team works closely with the world’s fastest athletes to meet the needs of runners, whether under the global spotlight or everyday runners chasing their personal bests.

Locally, more and more Filipinos are getting into fitness, particularly running. “As race season kicks in, Nike motivates and enables runners to run faster, farther, and further through the new Air Zoom Structure 19. It delivers a fast, snappy, responsive ride that runners don’t fail to notice,” says Country Marketing Manager Patrick Reyes.

Filipinos can run with Nike’s global community of runners through the Nike+ Running App, which acts as a personal running coach, running buddy, and cheering section all in one. It delivers training programs, real-time audio feedback and tools to track and celebrate progress.

Since its inception in 2006, Nike+ Running has helped millions of athletes track, measure and share their runs, encouraging them to run smarter and run more. The Nike+ Running App is free and downloadable via the iTunes App Store and Google Play.

UA Curry Two in the Philippines!

Philippines, 30 October 2015 – Global high-performance sports leader Under Armour, U.S. National Basketball Association (NBA) superstar Stephen Curry and actor Jamie Foxx team up again in a new campaign to launch the highly acclaimed Curry Two shoe from Under Armour. The first basketball shoe to feature a full-length Charged Cushioning midsole unit and a UA SpeedForm seamless upper, the Curry Two was first unveiled by Curry during his tour of Asia on the Under Armour Road Show on September 6 in Shanghai, China, and will be available at retail globally on 24 October 2015.

The new spot, created by award-winning agency Droga5 and entitled “ Flash,” illuminates Curry’s unparalleled skill set, which continues to transform the game of basketball. Foxx provides a narrative that questions, “How long does it take to change the game of basketball?” The emphatic response is, “.4 seconds,” which is the amount of time it takes for Curry to release a shot, the fastest ever measured. Amidst explosions of light, sparks and smoke, Curry unleashes an array of moves in an explosive sequence, as Foxx narrates his journey to the top and his lasting effect on the sport.

“Stephen is a generational talent and through hard work and self-belief he’s doing things on a basketball court that is impacting how the game is played, coached and seen by fans throughout the world,” said Peter Murray, Vice President Global Brand and Sports Marketing, Under Armour. “This new story, featuring Stephen in the new Curry Two, showcases his dynamic skill set which is inspiring a new generation of basketball players to challenge the foundation of the game and lead the new era of basketball.”

The spot features the “Iron Sharpens Iron” Curry Two, the lead colourway of Stephen’s second signature shoe. Inspired by Stephen’s relentless commitment and dedication to make his teammates better through his play and leadership, the “Iron Sharpens Iron” Curry Two features a grey upper with a back layer of yellow that pops through perforated patterning, as well as a midsole with orange to yellow fade that incorporates detailed speckles to represent the forging of metal. Stephen’s motto, “Make My Teammates Better,” serves as the foundation for how Stephen mentally approaches the game of basketball. His strength and fortitude serves as a source of strength for his teammates and the team.Additional colourways of the Curry Two will release throughout the season.

Created with a full-length Charged Cushioning midsole unit and a UA SpeedForm seamless upper, the Curry Two is engineered for basketball’s next great game changer.

“The first time I put my foot in the Curry Two, I knew having Charged Cushioning through the whole shoe would be a performance difference-maker,” said Curry. “I’ve been wearing the Curry Two all summer in my workouts, and I’m excited that the design and performance of the shoe will not just enhance my game, but it will provide all basketball players with real innovation that works.”

Charged Cushioning® System

The full-length Charged Cushioning unit in the midsole absorbs impact and converts it into a responsive burst to enhance Stephen’s first-step and change of direction.

UA SpeedForm® Technology

The UA SpeedForm Technology upper moulds precisely to Stephen’s foot, providing free range of motion and strategic stability so he can stop and go, cut and change speed without restrictions. The perforated engineering in the UA SpeedForm keeps the Curry Two lightweight with durable breathability.

Locked in Stability & Control Technology

The Curry Two’s external heel counter also locks in the foot and eliminates sliding for a secure fit. The rubber outsole with an organic herringbone traction pattern offers supreme underfoot control and multi-directional grip of the court. External shanks in the arch and forefoot provide midfoot and lateral stability. A high abrasion skin on the toe tip increases durability to support Stephen’s quickness and change of pace.

“In the Curry Two, Stephen has freedom of movement, responsive cushioning and strategic stability,” says Dave Dombrow, Vice President of Design, Footwear and Accessories, Under Armour. “What makes Stephen great is that he plays the game like no one we’ve ever seen, and at any moment he’s going to do something on the court we didn’t think possible. We drew from that to build him a shoe that allows him to play untethered and unpredictable, while staying in complete control of his every movement and speed.”

Curry Two Availability

The “Iron Sharpens Iron” Curry Two will retail at Php8,995.00 at the Under Armour Bonifacio High Street, SM Megamall and UP Town centre, and selected multi-branded stores of Toby's, Titan, Olympic Village and Planet Sports. Eight additional colour ways will be released over the rest of the quarter, up till Christmas.

Italian Salice Eyewear: More than meets the eye

***Press Release***

There’s a new style that’s been making waves and ruling the podium of late, and its name is Salice!

Designed and crafted in Italy, Salice (“Sa-Li-Che”) combines function and fashion in a distinctly European look. Local athletes that have been seen sporting a pair include Filipino Elite Triathletes August Benedicto and Kim Mangrobang. Known international product ambassadors include the likes of professional cycling world champion Alberto Rui Costa, cross-country skier Renato Pasini, sprint canoer Antonio Rossi and former professional cycling champion Alessandro Petacchi.

The backstory of Salice’s performance lenses is one of time-tested durability. In 1919, the Italian company initially manufactured heavy-duty goggles and sunglasses for industrial and military use. As the popularity of Vespa and Lambretta motorbikes grew in the post-war years, the expanded demand prompted the company to launch its own line of glasses for bikers and skiers.

The Salice range currently includes sport-specific models for motocross, skiing, cycling, running, triathlon, and many other adrenaline-intensive activities, as well as leisure-oriented models for more laid-back pursuits.

All Salice models are built to withstand hard training, with all lenses having 100% protection against  UVA, B, and C rays that easily penetrate regular lenses and cause severe damage to the eyes.

Aside from the UVA400 rating, the lenses come in a range of colors that merge aesthetics and added function. The Polarflex lens, for example offers greater visual contrast while the Chromolex lens changes color to sync with the surrounding light conditions. Even the basic lenses are mirrored, wide enough to block out grit and dust, and have anti-fog vents. Salice frames are characterized by a wraparound design with a soft nosepiece that firmly keeps them in place even during intense activity.

Salice eyewear is priced from P4,800 to P14,800.

Test this piece of European craftsmanship on Philippine terrain yourself! Salice is available at The Brick Multisport Store (McKinley Hill; Cebu), Bike King, R.O.X., Primo Cycles, Secondwind Running Store (Greenhills; Ortigas; Quezon City), Specialized Concept Store, RUNNR (BHS; ATC; Toby’s MOA; Toby’s Shangri-la), Planet Sports (BHS; ATC), The Athlete’s Foot (Two Parkade), Epic Cycles Alabang, Nothing but Water Boracay, and Bike Town Cyclery.

Zensah Compression Gear: A Runner’s Best Friend

***Press Release***

Manila, Philippines / July 9, 2014 – As the demand for quality sports wear increases, runners and athletes of all ages are now on the look-out for new and effective ways to improve their performance, whether it’s by using specialized running shoes or by donning ultra-aerodynamic garments. But now, with the introduction of seamless compression gear from Zensah, one of the world’s leading compression sportswear brands, runners from all over the Philippines can now enjoy the full benefits that quality compression gear has to offer.

For many runners, injury and muscle fatigue can be a problem, especially when they've been training long and hard for events like 5Ks and full marathons. Despite having the energy and the willpower to go on running, sometimes the pain can be too much, which is why having the right gear is of utmost importance. As the old adage goes, “The best defense is a good offense,” and when it comes to keeping you injury-free, compression gear is your best bet.

For the uninitiated, compression garments provide support for the body by applying varying degrees of compression to it. It keeps the muscles warm, thus preventing strain and muscle fatigue. And by wicking moisture away from the skin, it also effectively prevents chafing and rashes, that can cause blistering, which can slow you down.

So, whether you've just started the habit or are a lifelong runner, here are some things you should know about how Zensah compression-wear can benefit you:

Improves blood circulation - For more than half a century now, compression garments have been used in treating illnesses like diabetes, edema (swelling of the ankles, feet, and legs), and deep vein thrombosis by improving blood circulation, bringing valuable oxygen to those hard-working muscles and increasing blood flow.

Reduces recovery time - By improving blood flow, compression gear speeds up the removal of metabolic waste, thus reducing the presence of lactic acid in the body. If you've ever experienced pain and cramping the day after a particularly grueling workout, lactic acid is the culprit. It’s a by-product produced during exercise or any kind of strenuous activity that contributes to muscle soreness and fatigue. Zensah compression leg sleeves effectively decrease the dreaded delayed onset muscle soreness or DOMS, so you can hit the pavement when you want to, without having to wait for muscle fatigue to wear off.

Prevents injury - Compression leg sleeves support the calf in a way that regular socks don’t; through graduated compression, the muscles in the calf and shin are compressed, reducing the damage caused by continuous movement and impact from long-distance running. Shin splints are a common injury for many runners. With Zensah leg sleeves, you’ll be able to get instant relief from a debilitating, and inconvenient, injury.

Provides the perfect ergonomic fit - Zensah leg sleeves are engineered with chevron and micro ribbing which provides support for the calf muscle and minimizes fatigue, while Zensah Tech+ compression socks employ ultra-zone ribbing that improve ankle and arch stability ensuring a better, more comfortable run.

Zensah compression leg sleeves and Tech+ compression socks are the ultimate in athletic apparel, and are guaranteed to keep you comfortable and injury-free throughout every run.

Zensah compression-wear is now available in the following outlets: Runnr, Planet Sports, R.O.X., Arena.

For more information about Zensah compression-wear, check out Zensah.com or follow us on Facebook: Zensah Philippines, Instagram & Twitter: @zensahph.

Skechers GORun wins 2014 Boston Marathon

***Press Release***

"With the support of the Skechers Performance Division by my side every step of the way, I have won for the city of Boston, and for the entire U.S.," said Meb Keflezighi (“Keff-Lez-Gee”) at his Boston Marathon presser.

Skechers GORun ambassador and America’s #1 marathoner Meb led the pack of elite runners to the finish line in the 2014 Boston Marathon in his high-performance Skechers GORun shoes.

Meb’s victory became a feel-good story in the running community, following the devastating bombing incident in last year’s Boston Marathon as he is the first American to win in the prestigious Boston Marathon after three decades with a new personal-best time record of 2:08:37.

Vice President of Merchandising and Marketing for Skechers Performance Division Rick Higgins said, “We are so proud of Meb and his monumental accomplishment on what was clearly a very emotional day…if [he] can do it in Skechers shoes, so can you.”

The Skechers Performance Division first signed Meb in 2011 to represent the Skechers Performance Division as it launched its new footwear line. The Skechers GORun is designed for speed with its innovative M-Strike Technology to promote a mid-foot strike (two-point step: mid-toe), allowing more fluid and powerful strides than a heel strike (three-point step: heel-mid-toe).

Meb transitioned from a heel strike to a mid-foot strike runner with Skechers GORun, giving him an effortless and faster take off. Since that time, Skechers M-Strike Technology’s influence on the improvement of Meb’s PR (personal record) has been evident.

At 36, he ran in the NYC Marathon in Skechers GORun back in 2011 and posted a personal-best time in finishing sixth in New York that day, and then lowered it again in winning the U.S. Olympic trials just two months later. Meb also won more than five key races, including the U.S. Half Marathon Championship in Houston in January 2014, and the U.S. Olympic Trials in Houston in 2012.

While his winning the 2014 Boston Marathon might have come as a surprise to many given his age during the race was just two weeks before Meb turns 39, he attained greater achievements and established his personal best time record, running like a blur ever since he shifted to Mid-foot Strike Technology with Skechers GORun.

“It’s a pretty massive deal for a non-traditional running shoe company,” said Eric Smallwood, senior vice president of Front Row, a Philadelphia marketing and analytics company focused on sports. “If you’re a runner and you get a PR (personal record) in a new pair of shoes, you’re sticking with those.”

Are Skechers Performance shoes any good? Smallwood’s say: “They win marathons don’t they?”

New adidas apparel lowers your temperature and raises your game

March 20, 2014 – Today, adidas launched a revolution in active cooling technology, the adidas Climachill™ range. The range incorporates an innovative fabric using titanium and 3D aluminium cooling spheres. The technology provides an instant ‘chill’ effect to help athletes’s performance in warm conditions lowering their body temperature so they can train harder, run longer, retain their focus and compete better.

Revolutionary aluminum cooling spheres
adidas understands the importance of temperature management to make athletes better and for the first time used evaporation and conduction methods together.  Revolutionary aluminium cooling spheres are strategically located to correspond with the warmest area of the body, cooling skin down upon contact. In addition to the aluminium dots, the ground-breaking SubZero flat yarn contains titanium and is woven throughout the inside of each Climachill™ jersey, delivering up to 36 % more cooling capacity*.

The range was rigorously tested in the state of the art adidas ‘Clima’ chamber, with temperatures as high as 50°C. By using a 35-degree ‘hot plate’ to simulate critical functions of the human skin, adidas were able to determine a pre-selection of functional fabrics to find the ultimate Climachill™ fabric.

The Climachill™ technology goes on sale worldwide from 1 April within various categories including; Men’s, Women’s and Kid’s Training, as well as Tennis and Outdoor wear. The key pieces in the Climachill™ product range are the Men’s Training t-shirt and the Women’s Tennis top.

David Beckham, Climachill™ ambassador commented on the new range: ‘Playing and training in extreme conditions can be very challenging both mentally and physically. In my time as a player I have played in cold conditions in the North of England and in very hot climate in the US – weather can really make a difference to an athlete’s performance. The technology used in the Climachill™ range will really help athletes concentrate on their game so they can perform at their best, even in the harshest of conditions.’

Heike Leibl, adidas SVP for Training added: ‘At adidas we are constantly striving to create innovations to make the athlete comfortable so they can focus on performance. The Aluminium Cooling Spheres used in the Climachill™ range provide an instant ‘chill’ effect to keep the athlete at their peak optimum temperature to perform at their best in any conditions.”

The new adidas Climachill™ range will be available in the Philippines starting April 15 in leading adidas and sports stores nationwide.

Endless Energy Begins with BOOST™

adidas Continues to Expand its Energy Running Footprint

Herzogenaurach, Germany (February 2014) – Inspired by insight and driven by demand, adidas BOOST™ cushioning technology delivers the Energy Running solution that today’s runners are chasing.

As they hit the roads, tracks and trails in record numbers, today’s runners are seeking more from their runs and more from their running shoes. To answer the call, adidas and partner BASF, the world’s leading chemical company, developed BOOST foam cushioning that returns more energy than any other foam cushioning in the running industry. By using thousands of eye-catching energy capsules BOOST has changed running forever.

BOOST technology forges the qualities of performance cushioning and responsiveness that runners were previously forced to choose between. Energy BOOST, the first shoe to feature BOOST technology was unleashed last February and continues to provide runners with a unique Energy Running experience.

“BOOST has blazed the trail for Energy Running and reflects adidas’ commitment to strategic performance innovation,” said Eric Liedtke, adidas head of performance. “As the shoe that helped us introduce BOOST, Energy BOOST demonstrates the elaborate research and cutting edge development required to satisfy today’s Energy Running crave.”

BOOST was developed to remain consistently cushioned and incredibly responsive through sub-zero cold to punishing heat. Testing conducted by the adidas Innovation Team (aIT) revealed that, when taken from +40 to -20 degrees Celsius, BOOST foam is three times more temperature-resistant than standard EVA material, providing a more consistent run.

The upper of Energy BOOST features adidas Techfit, highly durable elastic polyurethane that provides optimal comfort and support to the entire foot while in motion. The formfitting, breathable mesh material offers the fit of a sock, while engineered powerbands across the upper provide targeted support and stabilization.

Energy BOOST also includes an extended TORSION® system from heel to toe which helps minimize roll for stability. This feature works with an external heel counter, which maximizes the heel fit and comfort during runs.

On February 26, adidas will unveil the first wave of new Energy BOOST colorways with a second series in March to complement its state-of-the-art Energy Running technology.

The new collection of miCoach compatible Energy BOOST colorways will retail for PHP 7995 and will be available at leading adidas and sports stores nationwide.
