Oscars 2008

I was able to watch the 80th Academy Awards last monday. I started watching at around 7 am just in time for the Red Carpet. I must say, that the turn out of the celebrities who attended the awards night was not that "impressive" compared to the previous years. Not many superstars, I guess. But just the same, the Oscar awarding ceremony was an enjoyable one. It lasted for more than 3 hours. They say that this is rather "short" as compared to the other Oscars since the writers have just gotten back from their more than 3 months strike (good thing, there's a temporary agreement between them & the hollywood exec without which there would be no show). Anyways, as always, Jon Stewart is very funny and entertaining with his witty comments and remarks. I was touched with the presentation of the Honorary Oscars to Robert Boyle, a multi-talented Production Designer, who at the age of 98 is still very much active in his field doing consultancy works. He's really an admirable man. The "In Memoriam" segment was as usual the saddest part of the show with the inclusion of the great, Heath Ledger. As for the winners, well, what can I say. I haven't seen most of the films nominated or the performances of the actors/actresses so I can't really give my honest opinion on this. However, I realized that most of the winners (in the acting category) are foreigners.

Best Actor - Daniel Day Lewis (British, I think?)
Movie: There will be Blood

Best Actress - Marion Cotilard (French)
Movie: La Vie En Rose

Best Supporting Actor - Javier Bardem (Spanish)
Movie - No Country for Old Men

Best Supporting Actress - Tilda Swinton (British?)
Movie - Michael Clayton

As for the Red Carpet, well, i'm not really impressed but was surprised to find out that there are a lot of reds! Here are my top picks:

Anne Hathaway in Marchesa

Katherine Heighl in Escada

Heidi Klum in John Galliano (this is actually up for bid)

Miley Cyrus in Valentino (only 15 yrs. old and already wearing Valentino! Wow!)

Jennifer Garner in Oscar dela Renta

Amy Adams in Proenza Schouler (her art deco bag has nothing in it!!)

Cameron Diaz in Dior by Galliano

Hillary Swank in Versace

Keri Russell in Nina Ricci

Laura Linney in Michael Kors

And lastly, Jessica Alba in Marchesa

Don't you just love the Oscars? :)
