Handmade Cake Toppers- Mattie Style

Yesterday I blogged about making these beautiful vintage inspired cake toppers for Wedding 101. Creating these toppers was a bit out of my comfort zone, and I found that I over thought every embellishment's placement, trying to make them perfect. I find however that being asked to move out of your comfort zone opens avenues in your mind and an explosion of creativity can emerge from that new door being opened. Yesterday, this was my favorite I made. Today however, it's this one. Looks alot more like a Mattie now doesn't it? Oh the stories I could tell on these two little birdies and their love story that led them to the altar!

I'll be gone until Saturday to Nashville. Valerie and I intend to help Amy and Ashley put the finishing touches on their space and toast with champagne to new beginnings on Thursday PM. Upon my return I have a new stash of paintings to share! Have a creative week!!

Mother's Day Love

"Coconut Nurturing Her Young" As another Mother's Day comes to an end, I wanted to share a few thoughts and one of my favorite images of nurturing I painted awhile back. Being a mother was something I always new I wanted. After Billy and I were married 4 years we finally were blessed with sweet William. He was such a cutie with a head full of red hair. We were blissfully happy with our one precious child. Right after celebrating his first birthday we found out with a bit of surprise that we were expecting Mailey. Now Mailey came out with more of a BANG! And has been fulfilling this role ever since. Not that I'd trade her over the top personality for a more boring one by any means. Their little personalities amaze me everyday. It is a wonderful thing to watch....children growing into themselves.
About 3 weeks ago we learned some very excited news in our family. My little sister Molly and her husband Mike are expecting their first child. It came as quite a surprise to all of us, especially her. You see, she LOVES children. And man is she the best aunt EVER! But having her own was something she never wanted like I did. So this news took some time to sink in, but now is being embraced as a little blessing. It's definitely bringing back many memories of my own pregnancies and all the love I immediately had for Mailey and William before they were even born. And I am most excited that this time next year we will all be able to celebrate this special day together...our Mom, Molly and I. I hope you had a lovely day as well. Creatively, J

Okay, the Surprise is Out of the Bag!

Well, Jill received her little Valentine from Chad on Thursday. She said she came home and the cone (I made her a cone for her front door that I forgot to photo) was on the door. Hummmm.....And then the nest with pink bow...hummmm...and observant little Kathryn found that the nest had a BAG in it with the actual gift. The two pink pearl eggs represent her two daughters, Kathryn and Caroline. The pearls, well I love the little seed pearls in my jewelry making. They are tough on the eyes and hands, but they really make a nice necklace. All was made with lots of love.

On a side note, I was wearing my own little nesty creation today in Birmingham and had lots of comments on it. So I am thinking of making up some more nests and placing them in my Etsy shop very soon. Be checking my posts for when they'll be available. I can also custom make one for you. Amy, I promise you are first!
Sending you all lots of love on this special day. I know mine has been a lovely one. Lots of yummy goodies here. My children picked out my favorite, a chocolate chip cookie cake! I'm off for another slice now. Nighty night.

Birdhouses for the Felties

I had this sweet customer email me before the Christmas holidays asking if I'd ever made birdhouses for my felted birds. She'd bought a few items for her daughter's room at the Marist Show from me, but needed a few more goodies for the "big girl" room. She has it decorated in the Pottery Barn bird theme which is so much like my little paintings. Just perfect. So of course I said yes, and finally I have them all complete and ready to deliver to Kristen very soon! When they hang on the wall, the pink larger one in the middle has this fun bottom full of ribbons that will hang down. I had fun decoupaging, painting and adding ribbons and buttons to these new houses.
I made the felted birds first and had them like little muses on my art desk while painting their homes. I had already painted the houses the base coat and was planning to pattern them with my brush and paints. Then last week while roaming Michael's I came across this new line by Making Memories called Chloe's Closet. I just had to buy everything in the set! It's adorable stuff. On the houses I used the buttons and some paper from it. I also used some vintage sheet music. Once I was done with the houses I decided they looked a bit too newish. So I rubbed the edges with some brown paint to give them the worn in look.

Overall I am tickled with the outcome. I can't wait to make the special delivery soon!
