hair and shoes

Important things to us girls! The 'hair' in the post title refers to my wedding hair-ups, which were done by my sister Katy. I've had the photos of this printed for ages, and have just scrapped them in answer to Shimelle's challenge to scrapbook with black and white photos (see challenge here). Here's the layout (click on the photo to see it larger):

I love these photos, because you can see the steam rising from the curlers in the pic on the left, and my sister is pulling a fab face in the pic top right - I don't think I was being gentle enough putting the clip in her hair!

I had fun spritzing yellow card and roughing up the edge of the page, paint techniques and distressing are definitely my favourite scrap techniques at the moment! I also love these Thickers that I used for the title:

After I finished the page I checked what other photo challenges of Shimelle's I wanted to complete, and I quickly got my daughter to put her favourite shoes on for the challenge to photograph some feet (see challenge here):

This picture will definitely end up on a scrapbook page, as these are the first shoes little one has learnt to put on by herself. And she's very proud of it, every time she's put them on she shouts 'look, I did it myself!' She puts them on every now and then just to walk around the house - looking pleased with herself! xxx

I must scrapbook this...

I've been organising photos on my desktop, and I found a folder with some childhood pics that my mum emailed to me a couple of years ago. It was in this folder that I discovered the picture of my sister looking just like my daughter does now (blogged about here), but that photo didn't make me recall any particular place or time. These ones did:

They are from a family holiday to Scotland, when we stayed at a cottage by Lochgoilhead. This is the holiday I remember most strongly from my childhood, probably because I was a bit older and going through a pensive stage. I was at that 'in-between' age, where I still loved mucking about with my younger siblings, but also liked to distance myself from them at times, finding my own quiet spots to sit and think for a while.

My brother had broken his collarbone, as you can see his arm was still in a sling. I accidently leaned on his shoulder during the holiday and it hurt him a lot, a fact which I wasn't allowed to forget for quite some time afterwards (he still brings it up occasionally)! I also managed to wreck my mum's favourite wellies, she had leant them to me and stupidly I ran into the Loch, to try and get back a boat made with a plastic bag for a sail - it had escaped from me, and in the attempt to recover it (I didn't want to pollute the Earth), the Loch water poured into the top of the wellies and filled them right up. They were great wellies too, navy blue with yellow string at the top. They were never the same afterwards. I was almost as upset as my mum. Another thing to feel guilty about, and contemplate during my pensive moments.

We played a lot of games of the 'Hotel' boardgame, which I've never played since, and am not sure I'd want to because it might spoil the memory. We also went indoor ice skating, hiked to a waterfall, and visited some ruins. But the best bits about the week were just us, hanging out in the cottage. It was right on the Loch, with steps down to the beach, and floor to ceiling windows in the front room so we could watch the boats go by. We ate and played and chatted and chilled.

I hope our family holidays turn out to be just as memorable for my little girl. Sometimes a certain 'fresh air' smell takes me right back to that holiday, and it makes me a bit sad (that I'm grown up and those days are gone) and very happy (that I had them) all at the same time.

I'll have to scrapbook these pics! x

xmas looming - and haven't scrapped last year yet!

With xmas decorations going up in the high street and December rapidly approaching I'm starting to look forward to Christmas and to my daughter's reaction to the decorations and presents (she already says 'ooooh' and 'pretty' at the decorations in the shops). But this is leaving me feeling guilty as I still haven't scrapbooked anything from last year - her first Christmas.
She wore some oh-so-cute PJ's for xmas morning, she looked like a lovely little elf, especially with her sticky out ears and almost-bald head! I almost wanted to leave that outfit on her all day long!
She was very cute when we were opening presents - tearing them slowly and carefully. She got a bit bored after opening a few but she liked playing with the presents - especially the ones that made noise! (Like the ABC bath toy!) The rest of the day she had fun playing with her nanny and grandad and S. And she really really liked christmas dinner! (She always does love her food!)
I need to try and scrap the photos before this christmas otherwise I'll never get round to it! I'm hoping I'll have lots of great stories and photos this year, and hopefully it won't take me so long to create layouts from them, so that I'll be able to remember more stories!

Thank you to everyone who wished me well for my first craft fair, unfortunately I didn't sell much. I don't know if my prices were too high or if my stuff just wasn't 'gifty' enough as it was a christmas fair and I didn't really have much that could be presents for people. But hey-ho, I will try again one day, it could just have been bad luck. Below is a photo of my stall:
And even though I didn't sell much I did manage to do a painting while I was manning it so it's not a total loss! The painting was of a watercolour christmas fairy, I'll upload a pic of it once I've done the little finishing touches (and I'll post a pic of the xmas LO once it's done too).
There's always stuff to keep me busy! x
