The Wisdom Journal is about making your own survival guidebook of your own personal wisdoms.

In the Wisdom Journal Class we will:

*Make a Unique Journal - including creating pockets, decorating background papers before binding, crafting a decorative spine, adding a closure etc.

*Detect Our Wisdoms – what is to go in the journal? Well, we shall see…

*Apply Our Wisdoms – we will look at how we can consciously apply our wisdoms in our life. Butterfly Addiction (& Video ~ Real Time Art Journaling)

Hi Love

I've had a realisation this week as to why I may have a slight butterfly addiction (those of you that have take my free class Inspiration Station would have seen this, I explain it as I realise there are butterflies ALL OVER those journals lol). My sudden realisation comes from a social media post I wrote a couple of days ago. It's kind of a personal one, so I am sharing it here for prosperity followed by an early peek at a youtube video I'll be posting tomorrow where I create a page with...you guessed it, butterflies. Enjoy

My Great Grandmothers Butterfly fits in nicely in my outdoor studio I think...

When I was a child I remember these enameled butterflies being all over her little flat (apartment to those over you over the pond). On every mirror, windows, picture frame and fridge (…may be this is where my obsession with butterflies comes from?). I don’t know if that was truly how it was or if it just how I remember it, but I always associate these soft little pretty colourful girlie things with an austere, proper, Edwardian woman who I loved but no one in their right mind would have ever called a ‘softie’.

She wore bland clothes, kept a bland house, and was straight down the line. She saw everything as black and white, ‘this is right and this is wrong’. No argument or compromise. She invented the phrase ‘stiff upper lip’. I never remember seeing her smile except in photographs I have seen as an adult, long after she has left the earth. Pure toughness of the First World War generation through and through. Yet I obviously never saw or noticed any of that as a child, she was my great grandma, and I just saw butterflies

[Video] Art Technique Plus Over 50 Art Resources

Hi love

I've a treat for you, if you weren't at the Birthday Bash Art Party last month here's the 'cool down' technique I shared at that event. It is one of my favourite repeatable art journaling techniques; simple, yet you always learn something new when you do it.

The Birthday Bash Group is still open if you want to see what else we got up to that day, while the event itself is over new people are joining everyday as all the projects are still visible. Join here: http://journalworkshops.ning.com/group/the-2017-birthday-bash

Note: you will need to be a member of my art community, Journal Workshops, to join any groups or classes. If you are not a member yet it's free and easy, you can join my art community here: http://journalworkshops.ning.com/main/authorization/signUp?

The CRAZY AWESOME Deal of the Week:

This week saw the release of the Art Bundle for Good. This is an amazing package of tons of art courses and resources (over $2500 worth for only $97!)

There are LOADS of goodies from artists you may know and love, such as Flora Bowley, Micki Wilde, Andrea Gomoll, Willowing, Tracy Verdugo, Angela Kennedy plus many others. I’m including $165 worth of my own courses, zines and kits ...so even if you only want one or two things out of this bundle it is well worth it.

I’m truly excited about this as it is a great way to get a whole bunch of treats for you while supporting your favourite artists and charity, as 25% of all proceeds go to art charity Free Arts:

You seriously do want to check this out, it is too good to miss - but it's only available for this week so don’t delay:

http://tinyurl.com/artbundle

There’s also a free ebook to grab at that link even if you decide the bundles not for you (though at all that’s in here I don’t see how that could be possible lol), to which several artists including moi have contributed to called ‘The Business of Art’!

Happy Arting
Much love

Finishing Your Art Journal Pages #2 ...Plus Other Videos

...The Art of Overwhelm

. This video particularly deals with the overwhelm of having too many art supplies to choose from, ever come across this?? Yeah me too, here's how I get over it, quickly...

Do you have any tricks for getting over this overwhelm? Or deal with any other kinds of overwhelm in art? (pst if it's to do with having too many ideas oh boy do I know that one! I did this video below to address that)

Yesterday I also posted the Monthly Challenge Video mentioned in the Finishing Your Art Journal Pages Video above which you can view here:

http://journalworkshops.ning.com/group/monthly-challenge/forum/topics/may-2016

If you're not a member of this Group it's a great place to be, and to be a part of it you just need to click the 'Join Monthly Challenge' Button at the top of the Monthly Challenge Group (http://journalworkshops.ning.com/group/monthly-challenge) & it'll let you in immediately (assuming you are a member of Journal Workshops, if not just sign up here: http://journalworkshops.ning.com/main/authorization/signUp? once I've approved your account you will get access to this, and a bunch of other free arty offerings, easy peasy!)

Hope to see you around there.

What Are You Afraid To Do In Your Art Journal?

Hello Lovelies
My Weekly Ramble this week will literally just be a rehash of the only thing I've managed to do the last couple of days. I've felt pretty crappy and so the Monthly Challenge is what I'm going to be sharing here, but really I think it's worthwhile as it's a very important subject and something we should have more conversations about.

So the video this month I did a kind of tutorial on, so if you're feeling brave enough click the image below to open up the question 'What Are You Afraid To Do In Your Art Journal?'

Much love
Have a great weekend

Add Depth to Your Artwork with Pastels and Charcoal

Hi guys
I have a new video for you today =)

Last week I posted the picture below onto facebook and stated how much I have been enjoying working with pastels lately, and would anyone be interested in me sharing some techniques on it in a video...

to say the response was an overwhelming yes would not be an exaggeration. So here is a video in which I share the three ways I use pastels, and sometimes charcoal, in my artwork when this is the medium I want to work with, both for backgrounds and for focal images.

The three ways are:
sketchy look by simply drawing loosely with the media (as the above page displays)
smoky and grungy look by smudging the media
getting a painterly effect by wetting the media
& of course I suppose there's the fourth way of mixing these techniques together, as I do when I create the Brunette Venus image in the video.

I hope you enjoy it xxx

Messy Monochrome: Art Journal Page Process Video

Hi guys

At the beginning of the month I shared a video in the new Monthly Challenge Group I have set up on Journal Workshops, which is what is says on the tin: once a month we have a new prompt to create a piece (or pieces) of art based upon the given challenge. It has been an *awesome* group so far - really, really incredible.

Soooooo many people have created art based upon this prompt of Messy Monochrome, it's truly inspiring. So I thought I would publish this first video further a far so others can see if they wish to join in with the group fun. I won't be making challenge videos every single month but I won't necessarily publish any videos I do create outside of the group either, so with that & all of the other great reasons - like all the wonderful community encouragement, inspiring art to drool over and the vast difference everyone's take on the same prompt can be - it seems silly not to join ;)

Enjoy the video
Come sign up here

Just Paint ~ An Art Journal Page Challenge

Hi guys so I have a video for you today woohoo!

It's a page process of an art journal challenge I set myself. An anti-mixed media art challenge, as mixed media is pretty much how I may normally approach my journal pages. So I took away the stamps, stencils, stickers, multi-tude of medias and most importantly...papers! I looooooooove me my papier!! ...but it's good to mix things up occasionally.

It may sound like a contradiction in terms but it can help encourage an expansion of your creativity by setting yourself limitations, sometimes. True story.

So I choose just acrylic paint, which I have done before especially in my Acrylic Journal, but this time I picked six colours I was feeling and just stuck with those six.

You can of course have every colour imaginable if you just pick a couple but mix them, but I didn't want to colour mix, I just wanted to keep the 6 colours as true as I could from tube to page but still creating an interesting background (which might usually be the papers/mixed medias) and a foreground
Writing it back it sounds more regimented than what I think challenges should be - possibly because I'm explaining it out loud lol but in reality I just grabbed six colours I liked and played with them like they were the only art supply I had. It is a fun exercise for an hour.

I hope you enjoy =)

Pet Project (A Video and What Went Wrong...)

Hey artybug =) I've been more prolific so far in the latter half of this week, yesterday I finished a project:
dat der behind Sweepiebum!

and today I made a video on it YAY =D if you just want the video, here it is...or if you want more info & advice (as it is just a fun video, not a tutorial video) continue the further reading underneath about it:

So A LOT of people tell me, once they've watched my videos 'you make it look so easy! I could not do that at all' - yeah I get that a LOT, but I truly believe it only ever looks that way on a video because (most often) it has been chopped and cropped! I STILL go through the same processes is my head 'is this working?', 'will that look rubbish?', 'what's missing here?' - that's why I did the 15 Minute Real-Time Art Journal Page Video, where I tried to talk through as much of the process as possible.
So this Pet Project video seems really easy-breasy right?
Nothing went wrong while doing this right?
WRONG!
Check out the still from the video below; this is where I painted all Sweepie's black bits, well black:
Well...it was the WORST thing I could have possibly done for this painting ---
Because I had already put the darkest colour down I spent the rest of the painting completely battling to make his features, shadows and light come forward. I used every kind of acrylic I had (I found glossy to be the best in the end btw, it added a bit more dimension), but this move could have completely ruined the painting. Did I let it? Hell no! Because I do not believe you can ever, EVER, ruin a piece of artwork to the point where it is impossible to make work again. Whatever you do, whatever mistakes you make, they are all tools to help you learn how to improve your work. Will I ever paint bulk black again? No, next time I'll build it up slowly. Am I sorry I did paint it bulk black, and probably got a lesser-version of the painting I could have ended up with? Not at all. I'm happy for every mistake I ever made in my art, this is why I'm sharing this in this post rather than focusing in more on Sweepiebum (sorry pup pup, you really are just the guinea pig today =( ), to try and share what I can in understanding that:
shedding your fear & making mistakes, makes you 100% a better artist!

Much love

15 Minute Art Journal Page w/ Real-time Video Process

I just have a quick little art journal page to show you, it took 15 minutes & I recorded the process in real-time but divided the time into three 5 minute sections
...well technically I went a little over on a couple of sections, so it may be turned into a 16 minute page lol but it's difficult just to drop it while the media is in your hand and idea in your head haha =) What I do in the video is an easy way either to warm up for a bigger journal page, or to do it as I do and journal in lil bursts throughout the day/days when time is tight. I sometimes also do this when I don't feel very 'committed' ~ you know what I'm talking about? Those days when you just can't be bothered to do ANYTHING creative, and you just feel like you'd mess something up if you did? Well I do this on those days ~ not a lot, just bits and pieces like in this vid and nothing that I can do 'wrong'.  So if you wanna hang out with me while I create this page please check out the video below and I'll see you soon xoxo

Texture...in 2 videos

Hi guys, I've two new videos for you.
I know, I know I've done quite a few videos over the last couple of weeks; I think it is subconsciously because we are now in November my video muse is anticipating being engulfed by the chaos of Christmas and new year, which I usually emerge from in February wondering what on earth happened lol so I guess she's trying to get her stuff done now so she (and you!) can also have a break from Jennibellie vids for a bit...may be, we'll see ;)
The first one I uploaded a couple of nights ago is an easy & super quick (under 3 min) texture technique video:
The second video I posted this evening is where I have developed this technique into a full journal page & show my complete process. Sometimes I think having extreme texture on a page can be daunting, as you're not sure what to do on top of it. Therefore as I created this page I talked through my material and process choices for ensuring I kept all the texture incorporated into the page, because if you embrace the texture & make the page all about it it can be loadsa fun:
I hope you enjoy, please feel free to 'like' & share with friends or let me know what you think. Much love & happy weekend, Jennibellie =) x

Late Olympic Fever & Tutorial Update

Art Journal Technique for Loosening Up: A Faux Chinese Brush Inspired Tutorial
Hey guys...so I know I'm a little late to jump on the Olympic bandwagon, in honesty it starting meant I was more upset that the Twenty Twelve comedy programme would be over, rather than happy the Olympics would be starting! If you don't know about the tv show it is a documentary style show following the fumbling Olympic 'deliverance team', starring Hugh Bonneville (yes, that Lord guy from Downton Abbey lol).
Make Your Own Stencils from Rubbish Tutorial
I guess the nearest thing I can compare it to for people not in the UK is The Office (though I think it was a much superior show) & the reason it was so funny is that, in truth, I think most of us Brits have thought holding the Olympics could easily be a bit of a fiasco.
Rope Portrait Tutorial
However now it's here I'm suddenly like *eeeek* as I'm sitting watching Serena Williams play tennis again at Wimbledon =) and after the opening ceremony I have to admit I had a dash of British pride. Seeing as most of my readers are not actually from GB I have to ask, what you guys thought of it if you watched it? I haven't watched an Olympic opening ceremony held in this country before, so I've nothing to compare it to, but I thought we did pretty good =)
Make Your Own Recycled Stamps
Art progress here at my studio is a bunch of new tutorials I'm working on. In fact I have worked on so many new techniques & had so many new ideas I'm getting VERY confused between all of my different video files that I'm editing. I keep my computer folders very organised but I've never worked on about 6 or 7 videos simultaneously so think I have to stop, go back into the studio, and just finish one project completely before hitting the next. I just get so excited though it's tough ~ one of the reasons you guys get so many tutorials and things from me lol.
Oil and Ink Art Journaling Tutorial
The reason why I have so much on the go is probably because I have been ill, so now I've kid in a candy shop mentality lol therefore I don't have anything new that's finished to show you =( but what I have managed to do is update my Video Tutorials page...which is what all the images in this post are about.
Watersoluable Travel Palette Book (or Removable Journal Palette) Tutorial
So if you have missed any, or not seen my blog for a while, please head over and see what's new. Much love Jennibellie xx
