Monday Corners

My day 29 Art Every Day art are a couple of corners doodles that I did when I got a moment of peace and quite.  The plan is to vectorise them for embroidery designs.

If you got a moment pop by Art Every Day to see some rather cool Day 29 art.

Not too sweet

Don't you just hate when you sort of know about something and then there is a problem and because you don't know ALL about it, you can't figure out the problem and if you think what you think is the problem in order to correct it, it means a whole lot of blasted work!
This a little cupcake image I did this weekend and then applied an embroidery filter. It came out fine, BUT when I apply it to other images I get parts where there is no embroidery. My thought is that is that the filter program is not acknowledging the crossing of the lines in those images and I am having a coreldraw vs illustrator conflict. Cool I can live with that, but what makes me want to bang my head is that I do not know if it would truly effect the end result in an automatic digitzing program. Below is the little set where bears the cupcake.

School bag freebie

I should be doing the book but felt like inking out this little doodle I did when I did the wacky back to school pens. I was going to put something in the bag's pockets but my daughter (ever the expert at 5) said "no" :) So here is a little girlie school bag freebie clipart and line art (digital stamp) it comes in JPG, BMP and PNG, to download click here. Please follow the terms of use.

Wacky pens and cupcakes

Taking a little break from illustrating the book on this blistering day, and finally completed the inking out on the pc of some doodles I had in my little sketch pad. I wanted to do something back to school but I think I missed the mark with the pens :)
These fun sets can be found at the shop.

Pretty alpha flower - in progress

I will complete this, this week even if it kills me!
It should not be that bad as I think I sorted out or rather created new illustrator brushes and am getting the lines the right size. What happened was when I started this eons ago I began it too small, so I scaled it up and then my brushes would not fit :( and of course the process which finally results in the creation of new brushes has to take it course - sort of like when you get a corrupted file you were working on. Somewhere in your head you know you will have to redo the whole thing but you refuse to face that fact only after farting around with the pc for about 4 hours. I was also trying to do with a minimum amoumt of little dotted lines, but the results were not pleasing so I apologise to all digitisers up front about my dots and french knots - possible a spaced out straight stitch might work? Well off to sort the lines out of the letters I have finished. This when completed will also contain the common letters - which are also half way done.
Cheers

A taste of something sweet

I finally finished drawing my cupcakes :) now I need to just save them and put them up lol. However at the moment I am still garden focused and being like a jack in the box since I really wish to be outside digging in the soil and planting Dahlias and going and getting the three apple trees I saw yesterday in a nursery. ... but back to art . Since I got a baker's dozen, I will put a cupcake or two as a freebie in the very near future. The line art / digital stamp version of the set is also finished and is just waiting for me to save them too as single files and upload.
Hope you have a good day :)

Earth Day Freebie

On 22 April 2010 Earth day will be here. What is Earth day? Basically I think it is a day to stop and think about environment both micro and macro. Most folks would agree that old mother nature needs a helping hand. So while each and every day should be one where we are conscious of the things we do and the effects it has on our surrounding, on Earth day we should make a special effort to do something for our environment, something as simple as walking down a stretch of beach and picking up the garbage- it may save a turtles life; or if you walk down a country lane, pick up the discarded fast food wrapper some passerby dropped- a storks life may be saved.
In honour of this important day here's a clipart and line art I drew. To download the files please click here. Remember to read the terms of use :) File formats JPG and PNG.

Tee shirt mock ups

Just playing around with two recent sets I put up. Took an image from both and applied an embroidery filter program to see how they might look when digitized. The tree is from Tree days and the caterpillar is from Garden doodles.

Simply Tree

Here's a little preview of a set I am working on. It is rather simple and basic in its elements which is rather nice for a change.

Picked up the little spider manuscript (anancy) last night and refresh my memory about the characters. Will post of pic from the book once I get them in a more presentable stage.

A small blizzard is forcasted for today. So the kids are at home - they are thrilled and I am tired as I came down with another cold yesterday so feel rather fuzzy :( The road is semi-drivable well was about an hour ago.
I am looking forward to spring.

February Freebie

Just a quickie here, I am rather exhausted today - physically as I have been shoveling snow all weekend and looks like I will be shoveling again tomorrow and the kids will be home as the road to the main road will be snowed-bound until county tractor/plough comes and frees it up :(. Where am I shoveling - our beautifully long @#$& curved driveway.
Anyway I just wanted to let you know in the yahoo group February's freebie has been posted.
Oh I forgot to add, I did complete the butterflies from 2 post before. This pic is one of them where I have used an embroider effect filter. The actual set can be found here.

Sketch of November's freebie

2010 will be the year of the tiger. A tiger is truly awe inspiring. In honour of his coming year I have dedicated this month's yahoo group freebee for him. Here is the sketch I just did which I will hopefully (all members of the house are coughing and ill ( well minus me) and no fevers so no swine) complete today in line art /digital stamp and full colour format.

Decided I did not like the bear's arm sticking up lol

... as the day ends

Here are the finished versions which can be found in the group. The background of the colour version is not included.

a card by Birgit

In the mygrafico ning community Birgit of bigganed.blogspot.com posted this beautiful card creation. What can I say but WOW!! The colours are muted and some may say a bit drab, but when she combined these muted natural colours with basic materials - card board, a heavy weave (looks sort of like linen) the result is just stunning.
While Birgit lives further north than me, I had hoped that maybe she sells her card. But alas she doesn't.
The line set used in the card can be found at mygrafico (5 clipart set).

From Clipart to Cross stitch

I’ve seen my work a number of times transformed into embroidery design, but when I saw it on Shoo Fly Pie it was the first time I’ve seen it used as cross stitch.

What is cross stitch – according to Wikipedia - Cross-stitch is a popular form of counted-thread embroidery in which X-shaped stitches are used to form a picture. Cross-stitch is usually executed on easily countable evenweave fabric called aida cloth. The stitcher counts the threads in each direction so that the stitches are of uniform size and appearance. This form of cross-stitch is also called counted cross-stitch in order to distinguish it from other forms of cross-stitch. Sometimes cross-stitch is done on designs printed on the fabric (stamped cross-stitch); the stitcher simply stitches over the printed pattern.

What amazed me with these two examples of cross stitch are how true they are to the original drawing/ clipart.

When I draw whimsically with black outlines especially if they are stick figure oriented in the limb department I’m always concerned that the black lines would be either too heavy or thin for the embroider. However this seems not to be an issue in cross stitch designs. These two cross stitch designs can be found and are available at Shoo Fly Pie - the snowman here and the best friends here.

a girl of summer

It has been a rather hectic week with autumn on us and trying to get the last minute garden things done like replanting trees and sowing grass . This has interrupted the little angry spider and co sketches which is good in a way as I was getting into an artistic tizzy with it. Yesterday the Master was busy doing some "real work", so I got some time at the pc and I went through my "to do" sketch book ( a big purple binder with various pieces of paper two holed punched to keep them in one place) and came across 3 summer girls I drew around Ligo ( mid summer). So,I did up the line art for some digital stamps and completed one and a bit in full colour for the digitizers, but alas have not as yet put them up on the site, but it is only Tuesday today so if luck hold out I will finish the girl I am working on and the last one today and will have them up in a day or so. Yes this girl is one of the 3. She is our favourite :) My conscience is being plagued by cards... I need to do some for the site. But before that the kids need to create masterpieces of art using vegetables..urggg!!

Beautiful Proteas from clipart to embroidery

I started last month putting up some of my work at mygrafico.com - mainly digital stamps but I decided if a clipart request caught my eye I would attempt to do it. Well I saw one asking for Prtoea designs. At first I looked and clicked away. Protea what is that ? What type of flower. After putting around for a couple of hours I went back and looked, no other artist had answered so I googled the flower and thought wow this is different. To cut a long story short I did a mini clipart set of 5 protea clipart. The lady who made a general restquest name is Karen and she liked the set and digitsed it and Boy did she do a fantastic job. Here are some pics of Karen's stitched out of two of the clipart that she digitised.

Karen's digitised set with some extremely cool suggestiong can be found here
The clipart can be gotten via here.

Fairy Alphabet

If all goes well a fairy alpha which matches the numbers will hopefully be up this week.
