Memory Dinner

Hello my friends,
August 8th would have been my husband's mothers 93rd birthday.

I decided to have a memory dinner in her honor.

Fond Memories. . .

Recently an iconic woman from my home town of Pleasant Grove passed away.

Phyllis Thompson was a very fun loving and sweet lady who was adored by everyone that Knew her.

Growing up as a teenager I had her as one of my ‘mutual’ leaders. That’s what Young Women's was called back then. She was wonderful and I have such fond memories of her.

Last week I went to an estate sale at her home. It was fun to walk through it with my sister Jeanne. I recalled having been there when we were teens.

I purchased a few items that I know will bring me fond memories of Phyllis.

I loved this pop up Spring scene!

These people look so happy to be going to church. This was so ideal because Mrs. Thompson made church enjoyable for us. We were converts and I can’t say that was the case with everyone. Jeanne, remember mean old Mrs. Williams? Ha-Ha! You know, looking back she probably really wasn’t mean.  I think that she was just senile. We didn’t attend real regularly and all she ever did was just make us introduce ourselves every time.  This was very embarrassing for a young girl and it made me not like her at all! Nope, not one bit!!

I bought these colored bottles thinking I would give some to my daughters.

After grouping them together I loved how they looked so I put them in my bathroom. Sorry girls, better luck next time.

Phyllis Thompson will surely be missed, but I will cherish my finds and think of her whenever I look at them.

Visions of Sugar Plums

I have such fond memories of wonderful Christmas goodies that my mother made at Christmas time. From her colorful popcorn cakes, her delicious white fruit cake, to my number one favorite; penoche! For many years I have been trying to set a tradition of Christmas baking with my girls, daughter-in-law, and now grand daughters. I hope that they too will have fond Christmas memories!

A little something sweet to greet in my entry way.

Cupcakes

gumdrop balls

Jumbo gumdrops and cookies

Lollipop treats

Sweets under the tree

peppermint ribbons

Bubblegum

A bit of gingerbread

Put it all together and what do you get? A tree full of childrens delight! CANDY
I swear I put on 10 pounds every time I look at it!
And last of all, what would visions of sugar plums be
without a sugar plum fairy? This sweet one was made specially
for my dear mother by one of her friends. So glad I've
hung on to her!

Karrah-Wheeee!

Last Saturday the fam had a sledding party in celebration of two of my grand daughters birthdays. Taylor turned 11 and Jordyn turned 9 on the 17th. Just a block away from our new home is a famous spot called sled hill. I never knew it existed until we moved here. It must be Alpines best kept secret. We had an absolute blast! It had been quite a few years since we had been sledding and memories of my childhood days ran rampant through my head. Growing up we lived at the bottom of a double hill. When ever there was a big storm they would block the road off entirely. My memory is that it was blocked off almost the entire season. Now, this could be wrong, because you know how childhood memories are-a moment sometimes seemed like a life time. Any way, we would sled that hill forever. If you were able to get going fast enough you could make it down both hills. Quite an amazing accomplishment. I don't know why, but we never seemed to have gloves or mittens. I remember always wearing sock on my hands. We would stay out until our fingers and toes were literally frozen. Then when we did finally go in and our hands and feet would start to thaw we would just cry because they hurt so bad. I remember running them under warm water. Oh those were the days. Now they always keep those hills plowed and they wouldn't dream of blocking the road off. Thanks for the good times!
