Embracing Summer. . .

Hello my friends,
Hard to believe that July is coming to an end and before we know it the kids will be heading back to school and we'll be diving right into Fall.
 
Our weather has been cooler lately and I have felt a touch of Fall in the air.
 
It's going to warm up and be right where it should be for the month of Aug.
 
So I decided that I would not wish away the summer, but embrace it instead!
 
 
I've decorated the front porch in shades of pink, red, and aqua.
 
I made a little summer banner to drape across my old window.
 

 
It's very simple and took little time to make.  I simply cut banner shapes out of poster board and added scrapbook paper with spray glue.  Then I modge podged chipboard letters and sprinkled them with red glitter.  Again I used spray glue to adhere them to the banner.  A few thrifted beads, scraps of ribbon, and bakers twine. . .
 there you have it.
 
 
This urn that I found on clearance at a local shop, Dear Lizzies was the inspiration for the colors.
I tucked a piece of burlap inside to hide the pot.
and
look at this beautiful geranium I picked up marked down to $4 at Walmart.
 
I deadheaded it and gave it a shot of Miracle Grow.  Should put on a show soon.

 
I threw in touches of aqua because I still had the old filing cabinet out there and didn't want to move it.  :)


 
I brought out my chippy chair for a pop of pink.
 
 
 
 And I brought my bike around from the back yard.

 
 
 
Of course we couldn't stop there.  hee-hee!  My pink cabinet needed to come out as well.
 
 
I placed a few of my old clocks in it for 'summer time'.

 
My Herb Cemetery is doing well and I just moved them around a little bit.
 
 
A pink watermelon hangs on the door.
 
 
 

The Agapanthus planted in the urns on each side of the porch and my hanging geraniums add more floral color.



The Daisies have gotten huge.  In fact, I had to cut one down because it was blocking the sprinkler.


 
This Kale came back from last year.  We had such a mild winter.

 
It truly is a jungle out there!  lol!  These sunflowers reseed every year.  This is the first year that I don't have any large ones.  Next year I will pull them out.  In fact, I'll be pulling these out soon.
But for now, the birds are loving them!

A Berry Cherry Tea. . .

Hello my friends, won't you join me for a
 Berry Cherry Tea?
 
Today I have my 9 year old granddaughter, Paityn so I decided that we would have tea time for a morning snack.

On Saturday I decorated my kitchen in a fruit/vegetable theme.

Tins with a retro fruit motif take center stage on the table.  I have had the round cake carrier for years.  The picnic tin is a new purchase from World Market.  Had to have it after Sharon from Blue Willow House showed it on her blog.
 
 
I brought my grain sack stool in from outside to add a little height.  On top is a tin with a cute fruit label and my little cherry gal made by Magpie Ethyl
 
 
I love and collect cherry dishes so I brought a few of them up from my basement kitchen for this berry cherry tea.
 

I love it when you start with one thrift find and in a few years a collection has evolved.
 
Years ago I found a bowl with this design.  Loved it and brought it home.  It would be years later before I would find another piece.  When a new thrift shop, Tags opened in our area I scored the little creamer for $1.  Then I found one plate at another thrift.  Imagine my excitement when I scored 3 more plates all on the same day.
Now for the most bizarre coincidence.  Joanne, a friend I met on Instagram came to my 'Meet and Greet' and gifted me with the teapot.  Mind you, she had no idea that I had other pieces.

Paityn loved the little teapot that I picked up at Fleaology a couple weeks ago.
 
 
 
 
When you have more than one cute cherry teapot it's hard to choose which to use.  But in the end.  The child's teapot won out because it had a basket to hold the wild strawberry herbal tea that I am drinking today.

Isn't it a gorgeous red color?  And what a delicious mild strawberry flavor!

 
I help in the nursery on Sundays at our church.  Sunday evening one of my little nursery boys brought me by some no bake oatmeal cookies and a picture he colored just for me.  :)
 
had a few left for tea.
 
 
 
 
This cute teacup was another thrift find.   

 
 
I love the fun saying inside!  While carrying it upstairs the lid fell and broke.  :(  Accidents happen.
 
 
Paityn drank her lemon limeade drink out of this cup.

It doesn't get much better than this!
 
 
It's always fun to enjoy tea with one of my grands!

Pioneer Day

Hello my friends,
here in Utah on July 24th we celebrate and honor our pioneer heritage.
 
This year I had fun creating a few vignettes that presented the feel of a pioneer home.
 
I always enjoy decorating my family room mantle.
 
My great grandparents, George and Jenny Freestone had the first two beehives in Vernal, UT.
 

 
I found this fun poster at Urban Renewal in St. George, UT  It is the same size as the bird one that hubby had made a frame for me earlier this year so I was able to switch it out.
 
The double frame was a 'happy' accident.  He was making a frame out of old barn wood for my sister and accidently made it too small.  He brought it in and laid it on top of my chippy white frame to see how much smaller it was.  Well, we loved the look!

It takes center stage on the mantle.

 
On one side I added an old scale, a depression glass mixer, and some of my jadite collection.  The bowl was a new find at Fleology.
 
 
An old washboard, time worn bowls, a vintage tin, and a transferware creamer all help to take us back in time.

 
 
 
You can see that I am always tweaking.  :)  Added the washboard with childs undies and the jadite bowl later.
 
 
 
On the hearth I placed a butter churn, my rustic bench and topped it with an old shoe form and the darling pillows gifted to me by Jo from Annes Attic .  I love the rusty buckle!
 
 
Sweet friend, Amanda gave me this crochet runner for my birthday so now the stool looks like this.
Do you prefer one over the other?

 
I recently bought this printer block cabinet.  An instagram friend confirmed that's what it was.
 
 
The sections are so small that I filled it with anything tiny that would work. 

 
I bought it off of Vintage Yard Sale Utah on fb. When I went to pick it up it was alot smaller than what I had thought.  The gal was so sweet and said that I didn't have to buy it, but in the end I just loved it's chippy charm!

I gathered some of my blue ball jars and an old wooden bucket inside the entertainment center.
 
 
Old seltzer bottles sit on top of my cabinet made from old windows and vintage pieces.

 
Inside is a blue seltzer bottle, a bee pillow, and a plate that I bought when I attended the Nauvoo temple open house.

 
Another grouping of blue bottles, (love those blue bottles), hee-hee!
A Utah red transferware plate and another sampler (one that I stitched) sit next to the t.v.


 
And of course, some enamelware and dishes!


This is my newest addition.  Picked up on our CO road trip.

I've had this old pioneer décor for a couple weeks.  After Pioneer Day it will all be changed.
 
I laugh at what a 'theme' gal I am.  I just go from one theme to the next.
 
I've got a new theme brewing in my mind.  lol!  Let's just say, that you might think I'm a little bit fruity!
