top ten

Burgess Family
Vancouver Olympic Highlights
from 2010
10. Finally, after living here for 8 months, getting a converter box so we can watch the Olympics.

9. Seeing Yevgeny Plushenko's disappointment as Evan Lysacek takes the gold.

8. Seriously, woman's downhill, could we see any more wipe outs. Those girls are either super tough or crazy!

7. We cant get over the term "nice Twizzle sequence".
6. 17 days of the greatest competitiveness. Love it!
5. USA's 4 man Bobsled take gold at speeds of 94 mph, that's insane!
4. Shaun White! Need we say more!

3. Watching Apolo Ohno skate his way to 8 medals. (even though we think it should be 9)
2. USA's Men's Hockey team's goal, to tie and send it in to over time with 25 seconds left in the Gold Medal game.
1. Going to the grocery store and hearing Chamberlain announce, with all the excitement his little body could muster, "look, its Apolo Ohno!" in which everyone around us turns and looks, and then he points to a magazine cover. Tied with Chamberlain being able to recognize Shaun White.

At our house we love the Olympics! We are sad to see them end. However, we can't wait to see you in Sochi, Russia 2014. In which Chamberlain will be 7. Yikes!

yum!, is all we can say.

More MONKEY BREAD (with a cream cheese glaze) please.
This tasty treat, is what Chamberlain and I made today. It took us half of the day, letting the bread rise and then drenching it in butter and coating it in sugar and cinnamon and then letting it rise again, but it was worth it! So worth it, that we called up Shelbie and Hudson and had to share. I think they both gave it two thumbs up. Especially Hudson he ate more than Chamberlain. This was my first time making actual bread or using yeast. Also today was the FIRST day that I used my dough hook, on my awesome turquoise mixer. I got the mixer as a bridal gift from my fabulous cousins 5 years ago. And on this day I finally used all the attachments! It's been a great day!
If you would like this yummy recipe here is the link.

p.s. Oh, its my first time adding a link to my blog, hope it works!

twenty nine

Yesterday was my first day at my 29th year in life. It was quite lovely. To start off my year Shelbie and I had pedicures the night before (please note that I have not had one since 2005, so to say the least, i was due). I wanted to have lovely toes for the day and she wanted to have smashing toes in the stirrups. It was the perfect day. We (Josh, Chamberlain and myself) slept in and had a lazy but entertaining morning.
My sweet little brother Tanner (who kept asking me over and over again how old I was, I think he was in shock at my age) took Chamberlain and I out to lunch at Noodles and Co., while my hubby had class and studied for a mid term. Chamberlain and I followed that up with some much needed shopping. Then it was off for home, to get ready for my dinner date with my lover. For dinner Josh had arranged my 9 months, to the day, pregnant sister to watch the child while he treated me to The Cheesecake Factory. Delicious! I'm a sucker for salmon especially when it comes in a salad with a balsamic vinegar dressing. Yummy! So of course I had the Herb Crusted Salmon Salad, which was spectacular, while Josh had the Orange Chicken, which was also great. We swapped bites of course, that's what couples do.

And of course the dessert. I am not a huge fan of cheesecake but I think after what i tasted last night, I'm sold. We shared the massive slice of RED VELVET Cheesecake. Made with two layers of red velvet mixed with two layers of cheese cake, sprinkled with white chocolate flakes. Heaven!!!
I love just about anything red velvet. In fact when I was younger I watched the movie Steel Magnolias, like over and over again, and the Grooms cake was an armadillo made out of Red Velvet, I often found myself wanting to take a big bite! All in all It was a fun filled day, with lots of family time. Just how I like it. However, the one present or gift (more like it) that I had requested is STILL in the oven! I was hoping that my new nephew would be born on my day (my sisters original due date). How spectacular would that be. This way his middle name could be ASHER after his favourite auntie Me! I had it all planned out except he still hasn't shown.
This was the only picture that we were able to get of the two of us!

PS. My first day in my 29th year had a perfect ending. Josh and I snuggled up in our cozy bed and watched not 1, not 2, but 3 episodes of our favorite tv show, PSYCH!

a little too crinkly

Chamberlain and I have a bake day once a week. We usually try something new like we did today. Chocolate Crinkle Cookies. These cookies are great to make with a 3 year old (despite the 6+ hour chill time). Chamberlain had the most fun rolling the ball of chocolate dough in the confectioners sugar. But then again, who wouldn't love to play in sugar. The final product was okay, the cookies to me taste (or more like the texture)exactly what they are named, Crinkly. However, Chamberlain loved them. And I thought they turned out looking lovely.

I hope they call me on a mission

Last night we went to Shelbie and Tim's for Family Night. I would say it was success! The theme: "Missionary Work". We dressed the boys up as missionaries, using Shelbie's name tag's from the mission, complete with suit coats and a Book of Mormon. We arranged chairs in the form of airplane seats and they were ready for take off. With Tim as the captain of the plane. Chamberlain went to the Philippines and Hudson went to Chile (although they stayed together, because missionaries always have to have a companion). Shelbie and I went into different rooms and shut the door. Once the boys landed they were ready to do Missionary Work, so they started knocking doors. It was really fun for them. We had Tim be their guide and helped them with what to say when they knocked on the doors. Some people let them in and some people didn't. After it was done they wanted to keep playing missionaries. Since they had a good practice run at Shelbies we thought it would be fun to drive down to Hudson's Grandma and Grandpa Claybaugh's house. We ended with the song "I Hope they Call Me on a Mission" which we also opened with and for the rest of the night they stayed in their Missionary clothes.
