Miserable Day
The weather today in D&G has been terrible. Its been wet and very windy until late afternoon, when the rain stopped and the sun came out. Throughout the day there has been a steady stream of visitors to the feeding stations. Starlings, House Sparrows and Chaffinches on the front station. A Jackdaw also made an appearance at one stage. House Sparrows, Great and Blue Tit on the back feeding station. When the weather was at its worse the Goldfinch above came for a feed. It looks soaked through and miserable. It has a good feed for about 10 minutes and then flew off. First Goldfinch that has been for several weeks now, pleasure to see again.

Little Charmer Looking for a Wife (28/4/09)
I went for a walk last night at about 6PM. As usual I went along the local riverside walk hoping to catch sight of the female Mallards and their ducklings. Approaching a bend on the river I heard a beautiful bird song that I wasn't sure who the owner was. I have heard it before but never saw the bird that made it. As I walked on the song became louder and I narrowed it down to a large bush that I was approaching. I stopped at the bush and had a good look to see it I could catch sight of the culprit. Eventually I discovered the owner of this beautiful song. Sitting not six feet away was this Goldfinch. I stood and watch at it continued to sing. It has been said that the Goldfinch song is a tingling sound like 'chards of falling glass'. Fortunately I had the camera with me and was able to get a couple of pictures. I also managed to see one Mallard and her family. Well worth the walk.

Goldfinches
These are the first two Goldfinches to visit my garden since New Year's Day. They visited on Wednesday 9/4/2008. They stayed feeding for about 10 minutes and didn't seem at all shy. One remained a little longer than the other. As well as these pics, I managed to get a short video of the pair. This can be viewed on the next posting. One Goldfinch came back the next day but none on Friday. They appeared again on Saturday and again a quick glimpse this morning. Just hope they stay for a while as they give such a lot of pleasure.
