Sofya is ONE

Sofya turned one last Saturday. Nope! No party. Ordered a beautiful ( and delicious!) rainbow cake to be enjoyed with the family.

We spent the morning at my uncle's kenduri. Then went to the swimming pool in the afternoon. Sofya was on duty as the poolside girl, lol! And when we collected her cake at BakesNBites, she was fast asleep. When we all sang 'Happy Birthday' she slept through it and didn't move a bone. Haha! By the time she woke up and posed with her cake, it was half gone!

To our dearest princess, mami & ayah doakan Sofya menjadi anak yg solehah, di dalam keredhaan Allah sentiasa. Moga kebahagiaan sentiasa bersamamu. Amin.

Weekend quick sewing

I got invited by an old childhood friend, Thasa for her 1st daughter, Jeda's birthday party and her 2nd daughter, Madeeha's Akikah feast last Saturday. I didn't have the time to shop for anything nor did I have the time to make anything fancy for the two girls. Since I have always wanted to try and make sling purse for little girls, I thought it would be a great time to try and make one. Alhamdulillah, it turn out great as I imagined it :). And I got feedback from Thasa this morning that Jeda loves her purse and wanted to wear it to kindi.

As for little Madeeha, I googled on what to make for her and came across burp cloths. Thought it would be a great gift for mom & baby as well. Using a plain baby nappy cloth enhanced with designers cotton at one end and voila! Madeeha can now burp in style. I love how quick and simple it was making the burp cloths. I'm sure I'll be making some for myself sometime soon *wink*

As for sewing for my boys..I'm still not done with their active pants. Made two more pairs-one pair each for Hafiy and Akif. Got it done Saturday morning and they worn it to Jeda's birthday party/Madeeha Akikah feast later that afternoon. I sooo love the guitar print! Don't you?

All in all..it was great meeting old friends. Can hardly remember when was they last time we all sit together like this. Probably during primary school years?

 The Girls

New week has begun. Will start working on confirmed orders once again. But I hope to be able to do more leisure sewing in between. By the way. Hafiy, who turned five on 5th January 2012 started his first day at kindi yesterday. He was all excited about school. The first word that came out of his mouth when he got into the car after school was "Seronok sekolah!" (School was fun) :D.

Two pairs of 'active ' pants made. Yayy!!

It has been a packed and hectic weeks..the last two weeks of December 2011...All focus and energy was channeled towards Nazmin Delightful Treats activity/business. And Alhamdulillah it was a success.

Finally, yesterday I had the chance to cut the fabrics I bought recently. Had nothing else in mind except to sew Hafiy and Akif some 'summer' pants. They are running out of daily pants to wear anyway. This time I decided to splurge a bit on designers cotton for them. The urges came after seeing Toni of Make It Perfect post - A Gazillion Shorts. She sewed 13 pairs of summer shorts for her children, nieces and nephews. Hers are reversible but mine are not.

I call these the active pants because they can wear it day or night. At home, to their grandma's, going to shops (ermm..not to shopping malls or any formal events though hehe)..or even as their PJ's especially on hot nights what we are experiencing for the past one week.

Planned to make 3 pairs each out of 3 yards of fabric. However I managed to sew only two yesterday. Hafiy was so excited about the pants, he insisted that I finish sewing them then so he could immediately wears it. It was 7pm..and was not supposed to sew at that hour. But since he 'begged', siap pegi mandi just so he could wear them..how can I resist. Only a wee bit more to sew by the way. By 7.30pm, both kids were already jumping up and down their new pants ,LOL.

Hope to sew four more by this week as I need to get back on sewing orders next week. Simply can't say no to returning customers and old friends requests. But there will be limited custom slots this time. Would not want to stress myself with deadlines..when I should be enjoying every bit of my 3rd trimester moment :). Yup! at 28 weeks this week. Gosh! And oh!Gender of the baby...It's going to be a suprise..for you. Will it be 4 boys or 3+1 this time? I won't tell. But maybe you'll figure out if you follow my blog right to when before I deliver *wink*

Just Akif and Welcome Aboard Spidey!

Here's Akif..trying to free himself from being wrapped in his towel. It was amusing  to see how he struggles to free himself (it was..really! hehehe)....and to see how delighted he was when he succeed :).

 All wrapped up

Trying his best....

Almost there...

Yayyy!!! I did it!...See the smile?

By the way, did you notice something new in the pictures? I'm happy that I can finally use my little trademark / avatar, Itsy Spider a.k.a Spidey as my  watermark. Thanks to Rozi, of Rozi's Needlework who did an AWESOME job at cropping and grayscaling the spidey image I sent her. I could not do it using Photoscape..(maybe because I didn't know how?hmmm..). So I sought help form a Photoshop master *wink*. So Rozi, thank you!

A brief story on how this blog got its name. This blog was named after one of my children's favourite nursery rhyme- Itsy Bitsy Spider. Obviously the name Itsy Bitsy has looong been taken by others so..I decided to name this blog 'Itsy Doodles' - A place where I (am supposed to) write about my lovely itsy bitsies. Spidey was made realised by my sister, Nadira. Gave her a picture of how I want spidey to be...and voila! :D

Thanks again Rozi! You made my day :)

Celebrate the boy : Sling Bag for Hakimi

Every time Kimi sees me sew something, he would ask me who is it for. If I was not working on something for home or for the family, he would then feed me ideas on what I should sew. And that includes what he wants me to make for him. One of it is a sling bag. I made him a drawstring backpack earlier but he uses the bag to carry his Qur'an for his Qur'an reading classes.

Made the requested bag using denim fabric bought at Nagoya for the main panel & pockets and designer fabric for the flap. He had personally chosen this Ready, Set, Go -Airplanes during my recent S.E.X (stash enhancement expedition) at Etsy. When asked why he wanted a sling bag, he said he wants to wear it on outings- to put in his wallet, water bottle, books etc. I wanted to make the bag horizontal but he wanted it to be vertical instead.

Just a simple bag with 2 pockets in front

The main compartment can fit A4 size books/papers.

Kimi with his bag.

Wearing the bag during our outing to Subang Parade-Carrefour Subang last weekend.

Kimi's bag was made a little slouchy. Made a few more (with improvement on the body) to be introduced to the shop soon. In the mean time, here's the sneak preview ;).

Celebrate the boy : Pants and sunhat for Kimi

Made these for Kimi about a month back. I forgot that I have not write a post on them yet. So this post come in time for Celebrate The Boy month :).

Kimi grows taller everyday.  But his waistline does not expand as fast. He gets his father's genes when it comes to weight gain I guess hehehe. Some of his casual-at-home pants are still wearable but the cuffs are already up to his ankle LOL! Senteng we call it. So I made him two 3/4 pants which I find practical yet functional. Since they are for his everyday wear, it is practical to make them in 3/4 length. Easy for him to move around without feeling uncomfortable. Functional means he can wear them for solah (prayer) without having to change to a longer pants as it already covers his aurah (properly dressed for prayers). And if we suddenly decide to go out, these pants are decent for for outings too.

I followed Novita's tutorial for the slant pockets. I love how the stripes fabric added detail to the pants.

And this sunhat...was made from what's left of the fabric used to make those pants. Added the applique taken from the t-shirt here. Kimi refused to have his full face captured for this photo. Hmmm..I wonder why  ;)

An apple a day keeps the doctor away

Pictures of Akif munching on an Apple. Yes! He can finish the whole apple, if he wants too. This little boy has a big appetite when it comes to food. Oh, btw, Akif is wearing the Okinokiyo Sunhat he won from Fashiono.my giveaway contest.

From Scraps to Drawstring Backpacks and a Lunch Bag

These were the scraps I received from Nykolett about 3 months ago. I mentioned about them here. Below are the things I made from these cute fabrics.

 The scrap fabrics

Drawstring backpack for Hakimi & Hafiy. Something similar to Noodlehead's except that I adjusted the measurement according to the size of fabrics I received and I made the zippered pocket bigger. I placed the pocket higher so that it's deeper thus my boys can put in more things inside them. And my version were not lined. The size is just nice for them to back their change of clothes whenever they want to sleepover at their Tok's & Aki's house (which they did last night :) ). And with their clothes in the bag, there was still room for them to squeezed in a book or two. Their toothbrushes & pencil cases went into the pocket in front.

And for kak Ros, I made her a lunch bag. Wanted to make a drawstring backpack as well but this fabric came in cut that were longer in width rather than in height. I followed the tutorial given by Pink Penguin but made this one a non-patch one ( I'm not so into patchwork..well, not yet anyway ;). The lunch bag is quite roomy. It can fit 3 medium size food containers. In my personal opinion, this can not only be a lunch bag but it makes a great purse as well as a travel cosmetic/toiletries bag too.

I had fun sewing these 3 things. Thanks again K.Ros for these fabrics. I hope you like the lunch bag I made you...

Akif : Off to work in his new romper

Akif the Engineer

Akif the Co-Driver

 Akif the Bodyguard....hehehhe..

 I L.O.V.E my new romper :D

But it was a hot afternoon so....upon reaching home...

Akif signed out of duty so ..romper off...:P

My little man is ready for work

Finished this last night. A romper for Akif. I know you're going to say you have seen this pattern somewhere before. Yes, Rozi of Rozi's Needlework made two recently. Had this pattern for quite a while. And this fabric was the only fabric I have in stash that was in boy friendly print and enough to make an 18M size  ;).

So Rozi, this is kind of a sew-a-long between us la ye? Hehehe...Would not have made this if you did not push me into it. Well, lucky that I finally did. Akif fits into this nicely and may only last him a few weeks months (kot). This size is the largest from the pattern. Sigh~

Will put this on him today right away. Then I can take some action pictures of Akif wearing this romper. I'm sure he'll look all smart and handsome :).
