Framed motivational quote with Itsybitsy 3D chipboards

Hi, Its Angela,

I'm  back again with one final DT post
Before we start with the tutorial, a word of thanks to the team members at Itsy Bitsy and you ever so supportive lovely readers. Its been great working with the team - I have to admit that I really pushed my limits into working with supplies that I would never have worked with otherwise! Each of the post had been challenging and I had to really push myself into making it really special and do-able. A big hug to IB community for the constant love and support.

Framed motivational quote with Itsy Bitsy 3D chipboards

Okay so back to the tutorial - I wanted this to be a super special post and I hope it is. Motivation is something we require everyday. Research has proven that when you have somebody you are accountable to or you have constant motivation, your efforts towards a goal is more fruitful. I'm sure we as student would've had motivational lines stuck to our study table so that we could concentrate on "Ratta maarifying" or Mugging up!! :P These days its raining motivation everyday through daily messages on whatsapp groups! Well but here is something special - an altered frame with pretty quote that you will surely read once a day

The frame looks familiar I know - these were specially curated and gifted to all participant by Itsy Bitsy on their recent Dream Launch party. The design was so pretty, I knew I had to turn it into a pretty showpiece!

I first applied white Camlin gesso all over the MDF front panel of the frame and also the back pane which formed the background for the framed inner part.

I had these Angel Wings 3D chipboards from Itsy Bitsy and I knew I wanted to make this the focal point of my project. I have already shared a tutorial on using compass 3D chipboard from Itsy Bitsy few weeks back and I used the same technique here. I tried to bring out a coordinating background ambiance for the chipboard using appropriate quotes/lines. This time, for the wings, I found a perfect line that stated "your wings already exist. all you have to do is to fly" from the L'amour Des Fleurs Paper Pack ( it has such cool frames floral papers !)

So while the gesso dried, I applied glue over the 3D angel wings chipboard  and put in fairy dust in shade beehive gold all over it. I let it dry for a minute and tapped of all the excess glitter.

Once the gesso was dry, I decoupaged bits of floral decoupage paper onto the solid portion of the frame. The bits would stray into the lacy areas too but don't worry about that.

Once the glue is dried, take a small round brush, dip into water and run it on the paper where there is no background ( in the laces) . The paper when wet can be merely pushed down with the brush to reveal the lace details, Once this is done for all the lace areas, apply decoupage glue along the lace edges so that these torn paper blends well to the edges and doesn't stand out.

For the background MDF panel, I tore out a sentiment from the pattern paper set. I applied some water around the edges of the sentiment (which had watercolor background) so that it was easier to tear with softer edge. I pasted it to the white background with decoupage glue and when it was dry , adhered the angel wings on both sides. The wings lacked a little geometry since I covered the entire chipboard with glitter. I took a black pen and drew the feather lines (which was originally there on the chipboard) over the glitter to add extra details. Can you notice the 3D shape of the wings? I think its the layers and the fine glitter is what that makes the wings the focal point here.

The inner sides of the frame was painted with frozen blue shade from Itsy Bitsy matte acrylic chalk paints to match the watercolor background shade of the quote. Now for the outer lace MDF frame, I dabbed pink ballet shade from Itsy Bitsy matte acrylic chalk paints to coordinate with the shades in the floral pattern. And done!

Hope you liked the simple idea for your desk. You can use any sort of frame and chipboards. Itsy Bitsy has a pretty collection of 3D Chipboard shapes and pre-cut chipboards that you can match with sentiments, themes or images and create various layouts.

Keep crafting!

The Versatile Fairy Dust

Hello Crafty Folks,

This is Karthikha here and I'm so glad to be a guest designer at Itsy Bitsy!

I received a set of 20 colors of Little Birdie Fairy Dust as contest win and at that time my hands were tied with office work. After an impatient wait, once I got to try them, I just couldn't stop creating!

So here are my creations with the Fairy Dust.

Creation 1 & 2 - Butterfly Cards:

I love butterflies and that was the first one I wanted to create. I had imagined a shiny shimmery butterfly in my mind and that is what I exactly got as the finished product!

Now let's see how I made it....
I took a white cardstock and stuck double sided tape allover. Removed the release paper and poured the Peacock and Magenta Fairy Dust randomly. Tapped off the excess Fairy Dust each time onto a piece of paper so that they could be used again or be put back into the bottle. Once I was satisfied with the mix of blue and pink, I ran it through my die cutting machine using the largest butterfly from Sizzix Thinlits Winged Beauties.

Now here is the trick of making 2 cards out of one. Take another cardstock and stick double sided tape allover. Remove the release paper and place the butterfly as a whole onto it. Slowly remove the main butterfly, leaving the negative parts and pressing them firmly. You now have one beautiful butterfly diecut and a panel with the blue and pink negatives.

For the first card, I used black cardstock and some matching blue and pink background panel through the cut design. Added a few pink sequins and blue stars from the Sprinkles pack. The sentiment is stamped using Versamark and heat embossed in clear embossing powder.

Check out the shine on the glitter!

For the second card, I filled the rest of the open panel space with Sunrise Gold Fairy Dust. Took another cardstock, die cut using scallop stitched rectangles and fill it with Sunrise Gold Fairy Dust. Mounted the panel onto this golden frame and attached to the main black base cardstock.

Creation 3 - Shaker ATC:

Next I wanted to create a shaker card with mixed shaker elements. Took the cardstock, filled it with double side tape and diecut the frames as required. Removed the release paper and filled it with Teal Fairy Dust. Created another similar frame for the backside too. Attached acetate on the inner side and glued them. Using foam tape, attached the 2 frames, after filling it with all the shaker elements of my choice. Here I've used a lot of blue shaded sequins, pearls, a blue butterfly, glitter dust, and even a double sided sentiment that says "Dream Big" and "Make a Wish". These sentiments are from the Jumbo Wishes stamp set.

Creation 4 - Daisy Birthday Card

For this card, I tried using the stencil technique. I took a white cardstock and stuck double sided tape allover. I placed a stencil of cluster daisies and filled with Hot Pink Fairy Dust. It was awesome to look at those shiny gorgeous flowers, but when I took the stencil out, I figured out I hadn't placed it firm enough and there was glitter in other areas too apart from the open areas. Mistakes can become a different art sometimes! So I filled the entire base with glitter. placed the stencil again and applied glitter to make the flowers darker. There you go with a pink self design!

I diecut a scallop rectangle from the stenciled panel and assembled onto the card base at an angle, trimmed the rest of the panel.

Creation 5 - Daisy Birthday Card 2

Just because you went wrong the first time, you won't stop right! Here is my second try on the stencil technique. This time I made sure my stencil is firmly placed and no gaps between the stencil and the cardstock. I filled it with a different shade of pink - Sheer Rose Fairy Dust. Once I removed the stencil, I got a lovely design and I decided to fill the open areas in silver using the Silver Fairy Dust. Die cut a scallop rectangle and assembled as a CAS card.

Creation 6 - Altered Mini Medicine Bottle

Glitter can find its place anywhere and not just card making! I had this very small medicine bottle and didn't have the heart to throw it away. Fairy Dust struck me and here I've altered the bottle.  This idea came when I was thinking what to do with the left over glitter that fell down while making the cards! I hated to waste them, so mixed all of the blue, pink shades and used it here :)

I applied mod podge and filled with the mixed glitter while the glue was still wet. Tapped off the excess and allowed it to dry overnight. Once dry, checked for empty spots and repeated the process.

Tip: To prevent the glitter from falling and sticking to your hands, coat with 1 or 2 layers of mod podge leaving sufficient drying time in between.

I then embellished it using a golden ribbon and a couple of gem stickers. Did you notice the golden border at the base of the bottle? It is nothing but the scalloped scrap from the butterfly card :)

Able to see the mix of colours in the glitter? That's my scrap dust!!

To understand how tiny it is, look at what I've kept inside - Toothpicks! :)

Here is a video of all the cards :)

Hope you enjoyed my creations! Do try your hands on these gorgeous glitters and add an oomph to your work! Have a nice day!

All about versatile Rainbow Sparkles

Hello all you wonderful people

This is Mukta here and today I am going to introduce you all to a newly launched product from ItsyBitsy.....RAINBOW SPARKLE.

Itsy Bitsy has come up with 8 stunning shades of sparkle dust....which they rightly call 'Rainbow Sparkle'!!

  1. Silver Fox
  2. Black Metal
  3. Shiny Moss
  4. Fiesta
  5. Rose Quartz
  6. Rich Berry
  7. Glazed Fire and
  8. Glazed Apricot.
Now when you see them at first glance...it will look like an innocent bottle of sparkle...but don't be fooled by it. I can tell you this....that these sparkle dusts are very different from any glitter you have ever used. Now I am sure you must be thinking what is so different about this....let me answer that question. Rainbow sparkle is a chunky glitter and has the appearance of Itsy Bitsy Sparkle dots. This sparkle is holographic and gives an amazing shine. It is also light in weight and soft on hands....unlike glass glitter.....This is what makes it stand out from other glitter when you are looking for outright sparkly and shiny results. I have done 8 swatches of the Rainbow Sparkle on white cardstock using Texture tack and below are the pictures.

So how do we use it....well ItsyBitsy has come up with solution the right ....the "Texture Tack" ( it is again an exceptional product with extra tackiness). Its a white adhesive specially meant to be used to adhere sparkles, glitters, fairy dust, microbeads, beads, sequins, Twinkle Melange and other things to a project. It is a very tacky glue and dries tacky. It is actually a very strong adhesive and can adhere even pearls, feathers, laces, paper and other things very easily.
Here are a few swatches showing you the different products that can be used to create texture on paper. I have Glazed Fire Rainbow Sparkle, Twany Gold Fairy Dust, Hearty Melange Golden hearts and Gold microbeads all from Itsy Bitsy.

Its very easy to use Texture Tack. Just apply a coat of this glue on the paper and wait for 15 mins. Then you can sprinkle your product on the paper. Put some weight on this and let it be for 30 mins. Simple.... As you can see, the coverage of the glitter is very good and the cardstock below is not seen. Also, Texture tack holds all the glitter strongly and there is not fear of anything coming off.

There is one important question I am sure most of you will be having in their mind...atleast I had it when I first saw Texture Tack....The question was WHY TEXTURE TACK? I was thinking why can't I use my normal white adhesive for adhering Rainbow Sparkle...why should I buy Texture Tack. For all of you thinking this...I have an answer.
I did 3 swatches below...
  1. Rainbow Sparkle Rose Quartz with Glossy Accents
  2. Rainbow Sparkle Rose Quartz with Texture Tack
  3. Rainbow Sparkle Rose Quartz with Fevicol (Common White Adhesive)
When I used it with Glossy accents, all my chunky glitter got flattened and kind of sunk in the glue....though I did not apply a thick layer of adhesive. So, I lost texture and even some shine.
With, the fevicol....All the sparkle started falling off as the adhesive dried. So, its not a desirable effect.
With Texture Tack, the sparkle stayed put and because I sprinkled it randomly, I got a very textured piece of paper with fabulous shine. Also, Texture Tack is rightly priced and you don't need much glue to adhere anything to your paper....so its Economical.

I have a little video here to show you all the Rainbow Sparkle and everything I wrote here. I feel sometimes pictures are not enough to convey the message...Please watch it as it will give you a clearer insight of these products.

Here are my 3 Simple and Quick cards, I did using Rainbow Sparkle and Texture Tack.

1. Celebrate!

To make this card, I started with 6" square black cardstock base. I layered some pattern paper from Forever and Always paper pack and some more cardstock. Now for the fun part...I covered little scraps of white cardstock with texture tack and sparkle dots, fairy dust and hearty melange. Then I fussy cut all my balloons and adhered them to the card. I finished my card with some hand drawn strings, sequins and Celebrate sentiment stamp using tsyBitsy Black pigment Pad. To add more interest to the card, I did add little dots using my gold gel pen. Simple and easy.

2. Thanks!

I started with a stand A2 sized green card base and matted it with White cardstcok. Then, I did cut my zigzag template on a scrap paper. i used it as a stencil to create this pattern. I did one color at a time and it took me around 10 mins to do this card. I have used Black Metal, Rich Berry, Silver Fox and Shiny Moss Rainbow Sparkle for this card. Once I was done with the sprinkling, I tapped the excess and then add weight and set it to dry. Finished my card with few sequins and a Thanks! sentiment stamp using ItsyBitsy Black pigment Pad.

3. Wishing you Success

To make this card, I started with standard A2 size white cardstock base. Then, I matted it with beige cardstock which I had run through my Bigshot using Sizzix Embossing folder. For the rainbow effect, I got few scrap sheets ready with different rainbow sparkle. I simply cut 1/4" of thin strips and added them to the card in a diagonal way. Then, I added the sentiment stamps on vellum using Black Archival ink and finished my card with few sequins.
