Happy Thursday Peeps!
Today I am sharing an ornament I made for an ornament swap I signed up for at my work.
I thought of literally a dozen different things to make and I searched around on Pintrest and the internet to try and come up with the perfect ornament. I knew I wanted to use the paper that many of you know I am obsessed with. This paper is made by The Paper Studio and I bought it locally a couple of years back at my local Hobby Lobby. I have not checked this year to see if they still carry it. I finally decided I would cover a clear ornament with my paper and then decorate it.
I cut strips of the 12 x 12 scrapbook paper 1 inch wide to start with. I then tore the strips into lengths that went a little over half way around the ornament. I used some Mod Podge that I have had for years that already had glitter in it. This part of the process was a bit time consuming and a little frustrating. It was a challenge to get the paper to lay down around the round sphere. I started with a foam brush and applied the Mod Podge to the ornament and then laid the strip of paper down and brushed on more Mod Podge. I did end up using my fingers to smooth it down, it took a lot of smoothing to get the edges of the paper to lay flat. Honestly I was not sure how it would be after it dried, but I pushed on and covered the whole thing smoothing as much as I could as I went along. It looked fine after it dried. I then brushed on more Mod Podge and used some extra fine glitter I had and covered the ornament with the glitter, Shook it off and let it dry overnight.
Sometime in the night it came to me to make some Cherry Cobbler Poinsettias for the decoration on the ornament. My original idea when I started was to make some rolled flowers using the same paper as the bulb, but I have found some of my best ideas come to me when I step back and think about things a bit. thankfully this had to dry overnight or I might have not thought to make the poinsettias which I love, and that remind me of my sweet Mom!
Here is a closeup of the flowers:
I used my Spelbinders Layered Poinsettia Die to make my flowers.. I just used the two smallest flower dies to make these. I die cut three of each of the two small layers. I then used some Mossy Meadow card stock for the leaves. I die cut one layer using the flower die and then punched several more leaves using my Martha Stewart Fern Branch punch.
I picked up some gold ribbon in two sizes at JoAnns to use.
I made a large loopy bow and hot glued it to my ornament to start. I then hot glued the flowers down. I tucked the ferny leaves all around gluing as I went. I then used my Autumn Accents Die to cut out two leaves using some Champagne Glimmer Paper.
I then pulled out some gold strand beads I had in my stash and added three loops of them around the arrangement. I finished off the poinsettias with a large yellow rhinestone in the middle. I then took a grungy tag I had and stamped the sentiment which comes from the Wondrous Wreath stamp set with black ink and tucked it up under the edge of the flower arrangement.
I put the ornament top back on the base, which is silver but who cares right?
I looped some more gold ribbon through the ornament top and tied it off.
The only thing not on here that I wanted to add but could not get them to work anywhere is some jingle bells, I had some dark green ones out to use or some rusty ones but alas they were a no go!!
Thanks so much for stopping by today!
