Sundays with Sandee - A hot mess

So what does a hot mess actually mean?
When ones thoughts or appearance are in a state of disarray but they maintain an undeniable attractiveness or beauty.

If that's the case then my art journal page is one HOT MESS!
lol

I am skittering around the emotional edges of color today with my hot pink, bright yellow and deep black. The colors you choose say a lot about you. So I'd like to think my art piece is saying that I am a sexual, optimistic and bold woman, or I am emotional, childish and evil.....lol Take your pick! HA!

Random thought:
Picking out music to go along with a certain piece is a monumental decision for me. However in this case, I went for something that hopefully conveys the type of energy I felt when I made it. It's bright colors and random stenciling added with controlled stamping makes me feel that she is bursting forth with controlled enthusiasm!

I understand there are some that don't like music so if you watch the video over at the Frosted Designs blog then be prepared to turn off your sound, because I am
ONE HOT MESS!!

Loyal friends

FRIENDS
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much”
― Helen Keller

Hi everyone, I am so happy to be a guest designer for {my sweet earth} today. I just love all the projects I see over here by the fabulous design team, so it thrills me to be among such wonderful talent!

I love the papers and stamps by Susan K. Weckesser, which have a delightful, whimsical mixed media look to them in bright cheery colors! Plus they are made from 100% recycled paper made in the USA! Bonus!

This is my card that I created:

Two of my favorite things to do are outlining and fussy cutting. The outlining just makes everything pop and by cutting out my pieces I get to create some fantastic layering and dimension.

I love this Unity Stamp by Susan called Insta-Cute. I admit I am addicted to all stamps that include cameras and Polaroid frames but these red rubber stamps are large, which is just awesome to work with! I stamped the frame onto the Live, Love, Create paper and then cut out the inside and glued it over the top of the Bouquet paper with the bird on it. Perfect fit.

Then I used the Crafters Workshop Live in Color stencil to create a fun border on my envelope along with the smile sentiment from the  Insta-Cute stamp, I think a little mail art is fun for everyone: recipient and postal carrier alike!!

Brush

A tool used to apply paints and inks to a surface, consisting of hairs, or bristles held in place by a ferrule attached to a handle. The quality of the hair determines the brush’s quality and cost. Each type of brush has a specific purpose, and different fibers are used for different mediums.
--------------------------------------------------------------
I just love this cute little card I whipped up last night using my pipettes, inks and pens. Very simple, very easy and lots of fun!
Isn't that the way it should be?

I firmly believe that the key to this type of art being a success is the outlining, which brings in all the ragged edges and letting your outline be loose.

Bright brush

Refers to a brush that has the same shape as a “flat” however the hairs are not as long as those on the flat brush.
----------------------------------------------------------

The Journal52 prompt for week 7 is
I did end up 50 years later actually doing something art related which had been a childhood fantasy job, so I am living out one of my dreams....but I also like most children had multiple thoughts on the subject of what I envisioned I could become. I ghost journaled all those jobs and dreams...don't see them, well, hang on and you will!

The art brush symbolizes my art, selling it at the Art Mob has been a dream come true for me. I have been successfully doing it for over a year now and loving every minute of it!

Each set of words are written 3 different ways. The largest is my title " In the end I just became me", and the pink ink flows out from the heart surrounding the words with the negative spaces not colored in, then we have the background circles saying "I am a work in progress", both written in all capitals but 2 things differ....first the circles go clockwise and counter clockwise. All the writing going clockwise have white colored in the negative spaces and those going counter clockwise are colored in with black ink. Still not seeing the under journaling??.....you will....promise...lol

Next the heart is more solid and serene for while I am a work in progress
( probably until the day I die ) I am happy and content where my life has lead me, so I wanted the heart to look peaceful and not cluttered, also not finished because there is always room in my heart for more.

And now for the surprise under journaling, something I didn't mean to happen this way, but sometimes it happens when we aren't expecting it. I wrote with my Faber Castell Big Stamp pen over the layer of inks and gesso and it kinda sunk in and dissappeared, well, that is until the light hits the page just right and then, BAM....!!

Seriously, almost kinda freaky, really! Here's a close up

Sundays with Sandee

It's been a fun week, full of surprises, one being that my art journal page that I painted with a pipette was put of the blog cover of the Dyan Reevely Facebook page, and yes, I took a photo of it, lmao!!

which is this

Over on the Journal52 Facebook page, I had over 100 likes and over 30 comments on this pipette drawing ( that's the most ever for me )

So, with everyone asking me questions on how to do this, I made a video and if you pop over to the Frosted Designs Blog you can watch it, where I paint this

Random Musings:
I'm not sure if it's the age of the ink or what, but not all inks are created equal. The orange ink I used bled through my paper and I will NOT be using it again for any journaling! And it wrinkled the paper, still waiting to see if I can fix that.

Bristol board

A high quality heavy weight drawing paper, sometimes made with cotton fiber prepared or glued together, usually with a caliper thickness of 0.006″ and up, used for many types of two-dimensional artwork, including lettering.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

During our winter storm, I had so much fun taking pictures of my backyard birds! I got up to 15 different species, there are still about 5 more out there that haven't cooperated with the photo taking, maybe they didn't like the snow? Anyway, my art journal page today was totally inspired by this little bluebird that was perched on my balcony looking out over the yard and the snow falling.

I knew I wanted to do a snow inspired page and I love how this turned out.  The snow effect is a combination of water being spritzed on the background, white ink splatters and white pen doodles.

Again, painting with my pipette, I just love how it looks so loose and free. The snow on the top of the branch is a mixture of molding paste, stickles and white ink.

The quote is one of my new favorites, so true isn't it?
"The Future lies before you like a field of snow. Be careful how you tread it, for every step will show."

And after everything was done I realized I had done 2 character type pages side by side. Although the pictures are quite different their messages are the same;
what we do and what we say, is important.
"A person's true character is revealed by what he does when no one else is watching."

Bitmap image

A pixel-based image (.BMP) with one bit of color information per pixel, also known as a bitmapped image. The only colors displayed in a bitmapped image are black and white. Its quality decreases when the image is enlarged.

Spritzed some spray onto a hexagon stencil, once dry I outlined in a controlled manner around the hexagon shapes. Stamped, colored and fussy cut out my bear image. Printed out my sentiment and glued a few bee stickers on.

I love this bear image so much and bought the stamp set just to get him, lol You will be seeing a bear in my future very soon. I can't release the details yet...OK, so I might have told a few friends, but as soon as I can let you know the details, I will be shouting it from the rooftops....I can "bearly" wait ;)

Birds-eye view

Seeing from a point of view from an altitude or from a distance; a comprehensive view in a downward direction; also called an “aerial view”.

♥ A shimmer shot

More wonderful shine ♥ and hand lettering. Everything was drawn using a pipette and ink and once dry I go back and sketch around the designs with a waterproof pen. This puppy has been sealed with Helmar Crystal KOTE Varnish to protect the inks and colors.
Love the ghost writing I did using my water brush with the inks
Purposely blurred out the journaling, but it's all about what I wish I had done, what I wish I had been told, etc. to have become an artist who is confident. I wrote it out on the backside of my art work and then glued the piece to my board so it cannot be seen. :)

Balance

A feeling of equality in weight, attention, or attraction of the various elements within a composition as a means of accomplishing unity.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK, so I'm not all lovey dovey and I admit I hate being alone and having to deal with all these love prompts during Valentines. I'm ready for this to be over but I know I several more days of it to deal with. Don't get me wrong, I'm just jealous of all you love birds and wish I had someone too...so having said that, I have a "love letter" prompt to deal with in Journal52, so I thought maybe I could try for some obscure and hopefully not too dark ...yeah, that's me, deal with it so we can move on, shall we?

Chelle gave us some links to hopefully get us jump started so I used the Wikipedia definition of a love letter for the background.

I painted the subject with my pipette, I am beginning to really love this technique,
the sonnet really hit home for me and I LOVED how I ran out of room on the note and had to write the last line on the bottom of the paper. A happy accident.

I gave credit to the author of the sonnet here on the book with his name F. Scott   Fitzgerald's, from his second novel published in 1922 The Beautiful and Damned: "a morality tale, a meditation on love, money and decadence, and a social document".
Did I say I was going to try and keep it from being too dark?....lol

The feather has LOTS of shimmer and shine

Sundays with Sandee - whisper those 3 little words I want to hear

This was such a fun page to do and although I didn't mean to find a quote that had 3's in it, it just happened....and it made me happy! Simpatico!!

Love, love, love the moon and the owl ♥

The best thing about working with a pipette is how it really frees my style up, I mean you simply cannot be stiff when you have only a limited amount of control. Pipettes are also real good at making ink splatters too.

I really enjoy painting with inks, I think they are very favorite medium. I do spray all my inked pages with Helmar Crystal Kote Varnish to protect them and it really brings out the layers too.

I hope you play along, pick out 3 favorite things and make whatever you want. As always if you want to copy my work, I am more than flattered, I am honored. If you want to see the video of my making the page, then feel free to pop on over to the Frosted Design blog, we love to have you visit.
