The previous post shows my mom as a very young child in the arms of her father.
While she and I are not sure of the exactly location, we think it is "Old Harbor," a beach near Roxbury, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston. The photo was taken in the mid 1930's and possibly by my Uncle Johnny, who was considerably older than my mother.
On my way to the houseboat this past weekend, I stopped in at the Humane Society of Kent County which had these signs out front...
I left knowing that three animals would be adopted at no cost to their new families - in memory of Ruby.

AWW!! That warmed my heart. Thank you!!!!!
What a wonderful way to remember your friend. She is smiling down on you, I just know she is!
Wonderful..you have such a big heart! You are making a difference! I am sure Rita's BFF Ruby would have loved it! :)
And that's just the kind of guy you are. Thoughtful and generous. *hugs*
(see you soon)
ah, that's so sweet.
You are amazing. What a wonderful thing to do!
(If you get a chance check out my blog, I've started sharing some of Robin's letters this week)
What a sweet and thoughtful thing to do!! You rock!
Those are great slogans to put out for the public to see! I'm glad you got to see three animals adopted. At first I wasn't sure if it meant YOU adopted them or you just saw them being adopted by somebody else, but whatever the case is, those pets are a giant balm for the soul :)
