You Are Like

You are like a gentle rain
Filling my life like a water main

You are like a blustery breeze
Swinging in like on your trapeze

You are like a sunny day
Forming me from dark and gray

You are like the green of spring
Raising my pulse like a growing thing

You are like a butterfly
Touching and making me liquify

V is for Villanelle - Guiding Light of Love

Your love has become my guiding light
The past took its toll each day
I think of you and all seems right

My adoration grew strong at first sight
Who would think it could be this way
Your love has become my guiding light

The past left me scarred with an ugly blight
To ease the pain that now comes my way
I think of you and all seems right

Filled with angst I’ve learned what might
Become of me if I give control away
Your love has become my guiding light

Anxiety had kept me up at night
Who knew peace would come someday
I think of you and all seems right,

When my life’s adrift and feels uptight
You’re a lighthouse keeping fear at bay
Your love has become my guiding light
I think of you and all seems right

LOVE the Beauty of Nature - NaPoWriMo #24 Challenge

Beauty is allover I am realizing
As I sit among the field of clover
Hidden amongst are foxglove flowers
Looking to the left is see cloven-hoofed deer
In the distance the killdeer plover take flight
At the edge of the field paloverde shrubs reside
Up high in the sky gentle clouds rollover the horizon

Cranberry Confusion

NaPoWriMo Prompt #17  - Write a poem that includes these words:  bamboozled, bludlust, bibliography.  Have the title include on of these words:  contradiction, constellation, cranberry
A simple small red berry
With such a lovely taste
Bamboozled me when freeze dried
It seems like such a waste

Gave no explanation

It continues to raise my hackles
Berries treated to a bloodlust
Yet knowing what the reason

To Succeed

I’ve found that often
when you’re in need
If at first
you don’t succeed

Try and try
and just pay heed
For what you plant
may be the seed

A wish that’s made
that is not greed
Is possible
through word and deed

Don’t give up
of this I plead
If at first
you don’t succeed

Why Rain? ( NaPoWriMO #4 / Magpie)

image from designzzz.com

Challenge:seven words that have the same vowel sounds (rain, pane, plain, disdain, constrain, germane, restrain, attain)
and use them in a repetitive way throughout a poem.

Standing sadly in my room
Looking out the pane
I watch the weather oh so close
Try to find restrain

For on the window you will see
The subject of my disdain
Tiny droplets are beading up
Mother Nature’s gift is rain

It’s not as though I hate it
In fact you’ll find it’s plain
There’s beauty in the sprinkling
I know that it’s germane

Yet on this special day you see
I was hoping for constrain
Maybe on my wedding day
A rainbow we’ll attain

My Dearest - NOT (NaPoWriMO #3 and PAD Day 2)

Challenge: Poem love letter to an old flame. (Mine is fiction)
Use one or more of these words:
dung beetle, politician, nuclear, exoskeleton, oceanography, pompadour, toilet

My Dearest Darling Daniel
I write to you today
I wonder why you treated me
as a dung beetle in your way

I remember how you used to look
That pompadour was so poofy
All swirled up on top your head
you looked a lot like “Goofy”

I know I sound a little trite
But if you could only know
A politician shouldn’t make a date
And instead decide to just not show

You made me look like such a fool
The waiters questions made me blush
Your notes of love are gone for good
Down the toilet in one flush

Charma - NaPoWriMO #2

Challenge: Poem about a superhero coming to my house

A superhero came to my house
Charma was her name
An appropriate name it was
Charisma was her game

She seemed to be your average girl
When you first met her
But soon you’d find the real truth
Magic she used to blur

Dressed in royal blue and black
A common looking suit
The spells she cast upon her prey
Would always make you mute

My first impression proved to be
Off base and clearly mistaken
For a superhero she was not
Just a woman who was fakin.
