The Pitambara God Krishna - Janamashtmi Special

On the auspicious day of Krishna's birthday - Janamashtmi, what else could be my topic for new post. The blue skinned, peacock crowned god , Krishna is the most lavish and loved god in the Indian Subcontinent. His gloomy charisma and strong personality makes him stand out of all other devi-devtas in Indian mythology. Son, Lover, Husband, Warrior, Teacher, Friend, Instructor... Krishna was a perfect and an ideal man. According to puranas Krishna is the most ideal man ever lived in this world.

Krishna's Birth 

Krishna's birth story is a very dramatic one. He comes in midnight hour, in a thundering night and is born behind the bars. His blood mother Devaki is in imprisonment by her brother Kansa who is afraid of her son who will actually become the reason to his death. With god's fortune Krishna's father is able to send him to Gokul where he spends the rest of his life. There is rejoice in the drops of heavy rain coming directly from the heaven as supreme personality of godhead - Krishna has arrived on earth. River Saraswati and Lord Sheshnag himself helps Krishna's father to send him to Gokul.

Krishna - The prankster

Krishna is the god who is loved the most. Reason behind this love is his mischief nature. His story tells tales about him as a naughty child. He is always shown teasing the ladies of Gokul and stealing prestigious butter from there houses. This innocent and mischief nature of Krishna makes us love him more. 

 

Krishna - The Ideal Lover 

A story that tells about this fact is that once to test Radha (Krishna's love) her friends told her to drink hot boiling milk by telling her that krishna has told to do so. Radha without giving a single thought drank whole milk. When the friends noticed Radha she was all fine, but the other krishna had his tongue burnt. This proved that Radha and Krishna was one soul and was deeply in love. Moreover, Krishna had 16000 wives in all his age, again he was so loving that he was able to satisfy all his women.

Moksha : The Ultimate Independence

On the auspicious day of India's Independence , I thought of bringing out a post of a topic related to it. On this day our country got freedom from the British. If we talk in a mythological perspective freedom is always connected with Moksha, which is generally freedom of a soul from the birth and death cycle.

The ultimate Independence

What is Moksha? 

Moksha or Salvation in Indian Mythology is generally referred to liberation from the cycle of birth and death. When a person is enlightened enough to be a soul and is not connected with the world at all, he is given residence in the gods place, this is actually what we call MOKSHA. After many lives that we live we get the human form which is the most intellectual form of all species. We as human can raise ourselves from this worldly things and attain Moksha or Salvation.

Freedom from rebirth

Why Moksha?

Moksha is seen as the state of perfection. Is is achieved by practising Dharma. It lets oneself to get free from the cycle of birth and rebirth. He is no more connected to the world and is sent to the world of gods or Swarg or Vakhunt. Self Discipline is the path to Dharma, Moksha is self discipline that is so perfect that it becomes unconcious or second nature. Dharma is thus a means to Moksha.

Moksha : The Metaphor 

Moksha or Salvation is many times explained in the vedas and puranas through beautiful characters and stories. Metaphorically many things are carved into stories to explain Moksha concept clearly. One such story comes from Vaishnav Parampara (Vishnu purana or tradition) which tells the legend of an elephant called Gajendra , who is in pain as a crocodile Huhu has caught him in the Samasara Lake while he was drinking water. Vishnu, as the preserver comes to rescue him and takes Gajendra out of the lake by killing Huhu.

Moksha - Metaphor

Here the elephant Gajendra metaphorically depicts a human who is stuck in the lake of desires and is in pain of his sins (Huhu). He attains freedom from this bondage through devoting himself in the Dharma or Vishnu. This story beautifully depicts Moksha concept.
