Photo Hunt: Sad
I have missed taking part in the Saturday Photo Hunt and have decided it's time to rejoin the hunt!
Today's theme is sad.
This is a cannoli from Buca di Beppo, swimming in a lovely sea of sambuca-laced chocolate. It is a sad picture because this particular cannolo is almost gone. It is doubly sad because Buca no longer serves the cannoli, so this was my last one. Wish I'd know in at the time. I might have eaten it a bit more slowly!

Photo Hunt: Music
Another photo from Symphony on the Prairie for this week's photo hunt. The theme is music. You can see some of the reenactors presenting the colors in front of the stage.
There's nothing quite like live music.

Photo Hunt: Cooking/Cooked

Since it isn't the best photo of her, I decided that I'd better add another one. It is totally off topic, but this is my gorgeous mom with my step-dad and my little brother on his 40th birthday.

Photo Hunt: Five

Bethany is six, Patrick is two, and Jonathan is a few months away from making his debut. This was taken in front of the Christmas Tree at the Ramada Inn in Lafayette, Indiana. We were having dinner at Damon's to celebrate my husband completing his masters at Purdue and the fact that I no longer had to work a Damon's.

Photo Hunt:: Childhood
Two of my boys running on ahead of the rest of the family on a walk through the woods last fall.

There was absolutely no way that I could limit myself to one picture on the subject of childhood. I think we're almost destroyed childhood in our society by not giving children enough time to play actively and imaginatively. We over-schedule them and load them down with homework, but at the same time they often have little useful work to do. We try to entertain them to stave off boredom, giving them TV shows that make them grow up too fast and clothes that make them look like miniature teenagers. Making sure that my children have a childhood has been one of the great side benefits of homeschooling.
This is my oldest niece having a fantastic time at the park near our house.

These are my two youngest nieces with that childhood staple, Cheerios.

Two of my sons perusing the pages of the latest Lego magazine....

Me, with my cousin Ann, who is still a lot taller than me.
Bethany, at four, wearing one of her favorite things. Her childhood was one long game of dress-up!

Photo Hunt: Empty

This one was easy. I love this photo that Bethany took last summer of my empty Higher Things mug sitting in the back yard. It is most certainly empty.

Photo Hunt: Soft

This week's theme is soft. The easy route would have been one of the many pictures of my cats. They are both quite soft. But I figure we'll probably see a few cats today and I like to be different.
One of the other softest things that I know of is a new baby. This is a picture of me with my brand new baby brother. Obviously this isn't a recent event. I'm in the middle of scanning my grandmother's slides onto the computer and am finding many treasures.

Photo Hunt: Antique

Antique:
1. | of or belonging to the past; not modern. |
2. | dating from a period long ago |
The first picture is the headstone of my GGGGGrandmother who was born in Pennsylvania in 1803 and came to Indiana in 1847. She died here in 1896.

This is an old farm wagon under the overhang of a very old barn on a fascinating farm just south of Fort Wayne not far from the airport. It's many outbuildings are rather dilapidated and it looks abandoned, yet the grounds are kept perfectly.
