Saturday Photo Hunt: Lazy

Jonathan relaxing with the cat. As you can see in the background, there's work to be done!

Photo Hunt: Sad

I have missed taking part in the Saturday Photo Hunt and have decided it's time to rejoin the hunt!

Today's theme is sad.

This is a cannoli from Buca di Beppo, swimming in a lovely sea of sambuca-laced chocolate. It is a sad picture because this particular cannolo is almost gone. It is doubly sad because Buca no longer serves the cannoli, so this was my last one. Wish I'd know in at the time. I might have eaten it a bit more slowly!

Photot Hunt: Light

The theme this week is light. The effects of the light of the sun as it was setting on this night last summer were incredible.

Photo Hunt: Pink

Since pink is my favorite color, I had a lot of choices for today's photo hunt, but I had to go with this one. This is my 11-year-old son, who is terrified of pink in only the way an 11-year-old boy can be. His sister received this pink hat for a gift and thought it would be fun to see how it looks on him. Big brother is helping him hold still for the camera.

Photo Hunt: Practical

This week's photo hunt theme is practical. Can't think of anything much more practical for feeding a big group than plastic forks!

Photo Hunt: Smelly

The penguins at the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo are cute, but they sure are smelly!

Join the Saturday Photo Hunt!

Photo Hunt: Music

Another photo from Symphony on the Prairie for this week's photo hunt. The theme is music. You can see some of the reenactors presenting the colors in front of the stage.

There's nothing quite like live music.

Photo Hunt: Fake

Where better to find "fakes" than on Halloween?
I present a fake redhead and a fake pirate.

Photo Hunt: Sweet

When I saw the topic "sweet" I immediately thought of pictures of my nieces or one of my kids. The problem would be choosing a picture. So instead I chose this sweet mix that my daughter and my friend were eating at our scrapbooking weekend.

Too sweet for me!

Photo Hunt: Shoes

Today's theme is shoes, always a favorite topic at our house. This is a picture Bethany took of some fun new shoes I got last summer.

Photo Hunt: Art

This is a couple of my kids creating with the acrylic paints and supplies that the boys got for Christmas.
I love this photo of Dale Chihuly glass--and Bethany-- reflected in the highly polished black floor at the Indianapolis Children's Museum.

Photo Hunt: Cooking/Cooked

When I saw that the theme had to do with cooking, I knew that it would very likely be a picture taken at my mom's house. Although I do tons of cooking, there aren't many photos taken. But when our families are together I'm always taking pictures. The challenge was finding a picture that wasn't completely unflattering of the person doing the cooking. My mom is looking a little tense as she gets the Thanksgiving noodles ready.

Since it isn't the best photo of her, I decided that I'd better add another one. It is totally off topic, but this is my gorgeous mom with my step-dad and my little brother on his 40th birthday.

Photo Hunt: Five

For this Photo Hunt, I chose a picture of the time when our family was still just FIVE people.
Bethany is six, Patrick is two, and Jonathan is a few months away from making his debut. This was taken in front of the Christmas Tree at the Ramada Inn in Lafayette, Indiana. We were having dinner at Damon's to celebrate my husband completing his masters at Purdue and the fact that I no longer had to work a Damon's.

Photo Hunt:: Childhood

Two of my boys running on ahead of the rest of the family on a walk through the woods last fall.

There was absolutely no way that I could limit myself to one picture on the subject of childhood. I think we're almost destroyed childhood in our society by not giving children enough time to play actively and imaginatively. We over-schedule them and load them down with homework, but at the same time they often have little useful work to do. We try to entertain them to stave off boredom, giving them TV shows that make them grow up too fast and clothes that make them look like miniature teenagers. Making sure that my children have a childhood has been one of the great side benefits of homeschooling.

This is my oldest niece having a fantastic time at the park near our house.

These are my two youngest nieces with that childhood staple, Cheerios.

Two of my sons perusing the pages of the latest Lego magazine....

Me, with my cousin Ann, who is still a lot taller than me.
Bethany, at four, wearing one of her favorite things. Her childhood was one long game of dress-up!

Saturday Photo Hunt: Steps

A bit of a different take on the theme "steps." This is my brother and our step-brother. I love this picture, because although our parents didn't marry until we were all adults, we've all been together for twenty years now and I think that this picture is a great snapshot of the relationships we have. I'm very thankful for my "steps."

Photo Hunt: Hobby

I wasn't sure which hobby I should use. I suppose I could use some of my gravestone photos for genealogy. I have a few pictures of us dancing. There are pictures of me reading, which belongs more in the same category as breathing, as far as I'm concerned. So I picked scrapbooking.

This is a picture of my kitchen table, taken over for a weekend of scrapping.

Photo Hunt: Empty

This one was easy. I love this photo that Bethany took last summer of my empty Higher Things mug sitting in the back yard. It is most certainly empty.

Photo Hunt: Salty

Kettle corn. A great combination of sweet and salty.

Photo Hunt: Soft

This week's theme is soft. The easy route would have been one of the many pictures of my cats. They are both quite soft. But I figure we'll probably see a few cats today and I like to be different.

One of the other softest things that I know of is a new baby. This is a picture of me with my brand new baby brother. Obviously this isn't a recent event. I'm in the middle of scanning my grandmother's slides onto the computer and am finding many treasures.

Photo Hunt: Antique

Antique:
1.of or belonging to the past; not modern.
2.dating from a period long ago

The first picture is the headstone of my GGGGGrandmother who was born in Pennsylvania in 1803 and came to Indiana in 1847. She died here in 1896.

This is an old farm wagon under the overhang of a very old barn on a fascinating farm just south of Fort Wayne not far from the airport. It's many outbuildings are rather dilapidated and it looks abandoned, yet the grounds are kept perfectly.
