Welcome Mr. Handsome!

So everyone, join hands with me. Choose your favorite flower and welcome Mr. handsome – Vasanta (Spring). He’s here! I’m so excited. This day is when the official Hindu year starts – called Yugâdi (commencement of a Yuga). It is this day that this Yuga (long mundane of years – consists of four, of which we’re living in the last Yuga; well I can’t go into detail as it’d take quite a number of posts, which I plan to do in my another blog – which is yet to be started).

This day is very auspicious for all Hindus – though not everyone in India celebrates it (which is sad). It is said that paying homage to Sun god and other chief gods today would keep you from all kinds of troubles throughout the year. This year is named Virodhî (the 25th year of Jupiter’s cycle of 60 years – again this might be just jargon from some of you as it requires quite a long explanation).

Virodhî means contradictory – though its name sounds terrifying, one should take its meaning as ‘opposing injustice and other wicked things.’ I plan to sow vegetables today as a token of welcoming Vasanta. I haven’t much time to speak a lot now, as I should be getting ready to office in 4 hours, which gives me just 3+ hours for sowing. Will keep you updated. Until then, I’ll let you guess what this flower could be…

Hail Vasanta!
