It was in the 50's and breezy.
Weeding is not on my list of top ten
most favorite things to do.
There is all of that bending and
kneeling that just makes me pant and puff.
And then there is the dirt...
It is so....dirty!
When it is just a bit warmer the
spiders are very active.
Shudder!
And then there is that
sweating...
Ugghhh!
Heaven forbid!
However, I hate those nasty weeds that
taunt me with their quick growth even more.
I pulled some healthy looking thing out
of the flower bed last night and said to
Warren, who had dropped in to see the progress....
I sure hope this is a weed.
He assured me that it was growing way
too vigorously to be a flower!
Funny man.
So...I made a lot of progress.
In one hour.
At least two large loads of those
stupid thistle plants.
I do not know where they come from
but they very much enjoy my perennial
bed. The roses have done well in that
area, as well. So maybe it is something
about the conditions there that prickly
plants prefer.
However, neither Georgia's or my Roses
are doing
well this Spring.
Must have been all of that snow.
Mine
Although, I have to say that Mikey pruned
his in the Fall and they are off to a wonderful
start. Guess I should have done that too.
Bummer!
Mikey's
Maybe that is why he is the horticulture kid.
Good grief.
He is already doing all kinds of
side jobs and will hopefully interview for
summer work at "THE GARDEN".
They called yesterday
but we weren't here.
Keeping our fingers crossed
and our knees bent in prayer.
Updated to add: Mikey has an interview
at "THE GARDEN" on Tuesday...Yay!
Well enough of my jabbering.
I just hope we get more good
weeding weather because I still
have plenty of weeds to pull.
Just a couple of photos of plants
in progress.
The Astilbe...
Two varieties are quite happy.
An orderly clump of violets
under the Dogwood Tree.
A new addition from clearance last
year. I forget what it is exactly,
but love it and may get more.
This is also under the Dogwood and
would do a lovely job of filling
in and keeping the weeds down.
Have a great day.
And don't forget to visit others at
Outdoor Wednesday.

Hi Becky, I laughed at your weed problems. Even though I know it is not funny. I just bought a sign that says 'THE WEEDS ARE WINNING' and it is so true. I have a huge lily garden and last year we put down plastic then mulch. Hopeless! It will take days to clean that bed and I will have muscle pain I don't want to think about. sigh!
Don't worry I am sure your plants will all take off and be beautiful. I should have trimmed many things in the fall and DIDN'T. Woe is me! smile.
Enjoy your day.
Hugs, Jeanne
Your plants are further along than I thought they would be since you are up north. It is cold here this morning after all the warm to hot weather we had late March and early April. Only 40 degrees here this morning. Your violets are pretty and what ever those white plants are.
I haven't had a lot of weeds yet, but I need to Preen. That's my solution. I hate to weed too.
Good Morning Becky Sweetie...
First I want to tell you what a pleasure it was to meet you. I so adore you and wish we could have had more time to visit. Next year for sure. I will be back. I thank you for my wonderful gifts of love. I haven't gotten them home as of yet. I had to ship everything home. 2 of the 4 boxes have arrived.
Looks like you are going to have a fun gathering soon. Wish I could be there with Marydon. We so love plants ofcourse.
It was 94 degrees here yesterday and today it is going to cool off to 90 degrees. The grandkids were swimming in the pool on Sunday. Yes it is warm enough to do that too. Summer is already here.
Well sweetie. Hope you have a beautiful week. You gardens are awakening. Be patient with them, they are just off to a slow start. Remember, slow and steady wins the race.
Love ya sweetie. Country hugs, Sherry
I agree; yesterday was a good weeding day. However I didn't make good use of the cooler, sunny weather. My husband, on the other hand, enjoyed mowing our lawn.
Becky, very interesting, indeed. Weeds.....ugh....I usually spend a couple days sevearal times a year weeding and then I can't walk for a couple days.....funny!

I hate weeding too, but I love the results:) How exciting about Mikey's job interview. I pray all goes well!
I can tell you're a gardener Becky and I really appreciate your stopping by to read my tree saga. Nice to see your progress this spring, too. -- Jane F.

I spent several hours weeding today! Fortunately it rained yesterday so the earth was soft and the weeds were easy to pull out!
I'm sure your roses will catch up once it's start getting consistantly warmer.

Weeding UGH! Not the most pleasant chore but it is not the worst either. I prefer to get out early in the morning to do my weeding when the ground is still moist and the air is relatively cool. It is actually rather peaceful.

Nothing is ever easy when doing yard work. I still enjoy it dirt and all. One of your plants is one I have also. It has two names, English Dogwood or Mock Orange. I am doing a feature about it next Wednesday. Thanks for visiting. I try to not remember my getting pulled over.
You're way ahead of me! Yard work and gardening is one my biggest wifely failures!
Hi Becky, you are so funny! Weeding is really hard work, and it is paying off! Look at your gorgeous garden, weed free. When they are in full bloom, it will be a beautiful site!
Hi Becky! I understand quite well about weeding. We've had plenty of rain and I think every weed seed that was in the ground sprouted in my yard this year. I go out regularly and pull till my hands hurt. It's so nice to be out this time of year. Good for the soul!
I see that you are a cat lover too. :) Thanks for your sweet comments.
