Angelababy to attempt world domination?

Sina reports that Angelababy was recently a guest on a Chinese reality show about robot competition. The most notable aspect of the article was the sliced and diced googlespeak translation from Chinese to English of the show's title. It came out as "Robot Hegemony".

More from Cannes: Angelababy out and about, Jane Zhang sings, Zhang Ziyi hobnobs.

Angelababy showed up at a number of Cannes venues--at the opening of "How to Train Your Dragon II" on the arm of Mark Chao:

There were some photoshoots using the Cannes beachfront as a completely generic backdrop, pictures that could have been taken anywhere that has some sand and an ocean:

Jane Zhang sang for her supper (or at least her flute of Champagne) and headlined China Night at the festival, wearing a dress with a huge panda appliqued or embroidered on it:

A typical scrum of reporters and photographers pins Jane Zhang against a backdrop:

Zhang Ziyi had her hand kissed by Spanish director Pedro Almovodar and got a side hug from queen of all she surveys Cate Blanchett, who seems taller than most people she encounters on a movie set:

One more of Cate Blanchett with her co-star:

Detective Dee prequel with Angelababy in jeweled headress

Director Tsui Hark and writer Chang Chia-Lu are bringing Detective Dee back with "Young Detective Dee: Rise of the Sea Dragon", opening on September 28 in the PRC. Angelababy is a featured player; based on the posters and stills released so far she accessorizes with a complex and uncomfortable looking head covering:

Such headgear has been used in various media to show that a woman is particularly exotic, dangerous, powerful or may even have super powers. For example, depictions in comic books of science fiction heroines:

It may denote her as the arch femme-fatale seducing French officers made weak by her lethal charms into revealing military secrets:

Just the thing to pull together a look for a 17th century Spanish noblewoman:

And as featured as the premiere piece in the fall/winter 2013 collection for the house of Alexander McQueen:

Maggie Cheung, Zhou Xun, Angelababy, many others at non-events in Beijing

The U.S. edition of Vogue celebrated the 120th anniversary of its first publication by having a big bash in Beijing. Since the date they were commemorating was pretty meaningless (begging the question regarding Vogue itself) the gang didn't have much to do other than stand around looking good and pretending to talk to one another while holding wineglasses.

Since we aren't opposed to that kind of thing, here area a few images.

Maggie Cheung in fur and couture:

The couture is from the Vogue party, fur from the next evening at something with photog Mario Testino's name on it.

Carina Lau and Angelababy from different parts if not opposite poles of the artistic spectrum went with black and white:

The cool girls cliques--Zhou Xun with Sun Li and Li Bingbing with Ni Ni, each making a point of not making a point of ignoring each other, or so the dreadful machine translations of the dreadful Chinese entertainment press seemed to say:

Sun Li in a super-fitted slacks and blazer and killer Christian Louboutin heels:

Ni Ni was in a fussy but somehow elegant mess of tulle, satin and applique:

Li Bingbing:

Zhou Xun:

Lin Peng broke the run of black, white and navy blue with a splashy embroidered D&G mini-dress:

Jason Wu's glamorous +1 was Carolyn Murphy:

Angelababy in Venice

Angelababy made the rounds for Tai Chi 0 last week at the Venice International Film Festival and spent an afternoon looking pensive on a concrete jetty. First the photocall for Tai Chi 0 in a sleek printed Herve Leger number based on his iconic bandage dress.

Showing a few of her Tai Chi "pushing hands" stances:

There was a completely generic shoot on a nondescript part of the waterfront. It could be filed under the heading "we flew halfway around the world for this?" since the images could have been done anywhere with some concrete and water.

Looks like Angelababy packed only one pair of shoes, cheap looking open-toed stilettos that might have been purchased at Stripper Heels R' Us that she wore for both the photocall and on the waterfront.

Glamor personified on the red carpet for the premiere of Tai Chi 0 accompanied by Tony Leung Ka Fai who cut an elegant bella figura himself.

Angelababy as Audrey Hepburn

Angelababy is opening the third of her chain of Hong Kong eateries and someone thought that she might look like Audrey Hepburn in one of her signature roles, Holly Golightly, "Breakfast at Tiffany's". She looked like herself, lovely as usual. The tiara and ropes of pearls in her hair worked as part of an impersonation or reference; the black leather minidress didn't.

For an interesting contrast here is Hepburn as Holly in glorious black and white.

A couple of shots of meta-Angelababy at a press conference holding pictures of herself.
