We have become official members of the OBX (the outer banks club). I never understood all the hype and talk about visiting the outer banks in North Carolina until this weekend. Our family meet up with friends and we enjoyed an extended weekend in the sand. It was wonderful. I love vacations that let us relax, unwind and do a lot of nothing which this weekend entailed. A lot of time on the sand, in the water, eating junk food and playing with my kids.
We stayed the weekend in Kill Devil Hills, about 5 minutes from the spot that the Wright Brothers flew their airplane. We made a visit to the museum and looked at the markers showing the four times the plane took off and where it landed.
We also spent some playing time at Rocky Ridge State park. The largest sand dunes on the east coast. After a long hike up to the top of the hill you are able to take jumps back down the hill. In my opinion it was a lot of work for a little thrill. Aubrey turned into a billy goat running up the hill at least 10 times. Samantha mastered the frog jump with Rob.
Kites that were blowing in the breeze, the main part of these kites were larger than cars.
