Gallon Drunk - You, The Night... and the Music

Clawfist [1992]

This has been a pretty consistent listen for me as of late. I think you will enjoy it. Grimy swamp rock is good for those winter-time ailments anyway. And this is the good stuff... Like Scientists good... BIRTHDAY PARTY good...
You'll see...

Crown Roast - A Nose Has Many Jobs

Unclean [1994]

Nasty noise rock from Texas. Sounds like Dazzling Killmen and Born Against got thrown in a broken blender.

Urusei Yatsura - We Are Urusei Yatsura

Che Trading [1996]

So this is Urusei Yatsura. They are were a band from Glasgow and they are named after some Japanese manga comic. They sound like Pavement. A lot. They are really good. I can't stop listening to them lately. You should do the same.

Primary [1997]

This is the singles collection that came after the aforementioned debut. It's not quite as good as "We Are..." but it's got some amazing gems on it that must not be missed. This is some top notch 90's lo-fi indie for your earholes folks.

Trumans Water - Peel Sessions

Strange Fruit [1995]

The greatest Trumans Water record is their first. It really is. Alas, the only copy I have of that is etched into a slab of vinyl and despite my overwhelming effort to obtain a cost-less digital copy, I have failed. SO, we are going to listen to the next best thing. This is some stuff the melodically noisy four-tet did with John Peel in the mid 90's. It's good.

And if anyone want's to share with us a link to a copy of "Of Thick Tum" we will worship you publicly. Thank you.

Fuckemos - Can Kill You

Rise [1994]

It's hard to find something to say about this record that it doesn't say for itself. It's trashy, tasteless, and amazing.

The Scissor Girls - From: The Scissor Girls To: The Imaginary Layer on Skeletons

File:Imaginary layer On Skeletons.jpg
Quinnah [1994]

It's time to get weird with some of that early(ish) -era now wave racket from Chicago's Scissor Girls. The name of the game here is obnoxious guitars, poorly play dance punk rhythms, and sass.Lot's of sass. Sass is the key.

Oh ya.... and costumes

Joe 4 - Enola Gay EP

Whosbrain [2011]

Got a request to review this recently. I was aware of this band's existence but had not really spent time with any of their material.
I just spent some time.
I like this.

Joe 4 is a trio from Zagreb, Croatia. I had to look up where Croatia was. Apparently it's next to Bosnia and across the bay (Adriatic Sea) from Italy. I will admit that learning this somehow increased the band's cool factor in my unreasonable mind.
Anyway, these guys produce some spectacular noise. Overall, the music offers a combination of classically angular noise rock with the melodic presence and energy of a post punk/ hardcore tune. The guitars are dry and metallic (that "aluminum" sound), the bass is gritty, and the vocals are barked with an intensity akin to a thunderstorm. Think Brainbombs doing a Fugazi cover. Ya, these guys sound like Brainbombs imitating Fugazi (in the best possible sense). All of this is tangled within that intensely staccato rhythm we might expect from such a venture. It's easy to see why these guys got Albini to do their most recent record.

Check these guys out and buy their stuff.

Dog Faced Hermans - Humans Fly/ Every Day Timebomb

Konkurrel/ EFA [1991]

This release chronicles the first EP and full length from Scotland's greatest band. These anarcho-noise-punks were good friends with The Ex and it is evident. When these guys get going its all dissonant grooves and scratchy rhythms.

Pre - Epic Fits

Skin Graft/ Lovepump United [2007]

I don't know why this has not been posted yet. This used to get a lot of play in my earholes a few years ago. Music from a magical time in the mid-2000's when neo-no-wave-art-punk-noise-rock was rampant in the streets. This is what that phenomenon sounded like in London....

Nice cock...

Calvin Krime - Dress For The Future

Amphetamine Reptile [1997]

The combination of noise rock and hardcore can get sketchy at times. Don't ask me why. It just does (remember the garbage 31G put out...?).
This record is not sketchy, though. Well... not in a bad way at least...

Skin Graft [1995]

This is a long overdue post.

Here essential release from the Now Wave instigator's at Skin Graft. Everything about this album is perfect. The astute melding of post punk and art rock creates the perfect mood. It's a neo-no wave masterpiece.

TV Ghost - Cold Fish

In The Red [2009]

My current listening habits have put in a space inhabited buy both De La Soul and TV Ghost. We are gonna talk about TV Ghost...
These guys are from Lafayette and they play some delightfully dark music. The sound is a like an argument between reverberated guitars, squawking organ, and all sorts of rock and roll growling.
It's like art punk garage rock. You know the stuff. Nick Cave would be proud.
