Turning Seasons

Autumn Mountain III
The weather has turned and Autumn is definitely arriving. Evidenced by 44 degrees this morning. I'm feeling a bit down that our winterish coldness has started so early.
I am a warm weather girl.

I do like Autumn. The cold starts the leaves turning which in turn provides some stunning views. And afternoons are warmish... sometimes. :) I'm just not quite ready.

In any case, we're planning our annual trek to Heather Meadows/Mount Baker before the snow flies. We try for the last nice weather day literally before snow is expected, which is easier to do when one works for oneself from home.

Off to put away the summer clothes and get out my cold weather wear: long sleeves and turtlenecks and layers. And worn about 3/4 of the year in these parts.

Happy Saturday!

HuMp DaY Haiku - Curves

Winding road ahead.
Looking back upon the curves
shows how far we've come.
Part way up the winding road to Artist Point near Mount Baker.

I'm in a bumpy winding place right now, so am keeping my focus on getting to the gorgeous view just ahead. I know it's there, just have to hang on for another curve or two.

A year or so ago, I started doing Hump Day Haiku with Carla Sonheim's Silly classes and decided as a challenge for myself, I'd continue. I have found that creating a haiku (non rhyming poem with 5 - 7 - 5 syllables per line) feeds my soul. I especially like creating them to go with my photos and art.

Would you like to share a haiku you have written?

You may include a haiku in the comments, OR you may copy your blog post url (featuring a haiku) and add a link to your blog using Mr. Linky. And consider visiting other contributors blogs to see what they've created and say hello.

Annual trek to the Mountain

The rains have returned and will be here for months. I already miss the sun.
I AM grateful for the water for the plants and trees.

And I am grateful that I have recent memories of a beautiful day "on the mountain" with my husband at Artist Point near Mount Baker. My honey's goal is to go one of the last days before the fall rains hit. Fall rain in Bellingham is snow at Mount Baker, and they close the road up to Artist Point not to reopen until mid-summer when it thaws. We were there the very last nice day. Score!

We took a short hike toward Chain Lakes... the picture above shows the view above is near the start of the trail. Mount Baker, the Great White Watcher is peeking at us through the trees. Highland blueberries provide the deep red color.

The colors were spectacular this year!

This shot was taken along the trail down to Bagley Lake at Austin Pass, looking back up the hill.

And this is the view from our picnic table at Austin Pass. Nice, don't you think?

A glorious day to remember on a gray, rainy day like today.
