discover your wings...

Hey friends!!  It is a gorgeous day here in the south sound region of the PNW!!  Took the boys for a little drive up to Black Diamond and made a stop at the Black Diamond bakery for some yummy treats.  After that little road trip I was ready to make a couple of cards.  My mojo has been missing for several days and so I'm happy that it seems to have made an appearance, again!!  I love the bright sunny colors in the current Color Throwdown challenge and I really wanted to make something using them.  I pulled out the super fun Essentials by Ellen Up the Happy stamp and die set and got to work.  I tried to keep things fairly CAS so that I can enter this into the new Paper Players challenge (butterflies).  I die cut some green polka dot paper from Echo Park using an AJVD rectangle backdrop die.  Some white cardstock was die cut using an AJVD Polka Dot rectangle backdrop die that fit inside the larger one and then the panel was stamped with the clouds from the Up the Happy set using Memento Bahama Blue ink.  The butterfly was die cut from yellow and green polka dot paper (from Echo Park), the yellow one was stamped with the corresponding image using black ink and then the two butterflies were adhered together.  A strip of the yellow polka paper was cut and stamped with a sentiment from the Taylored Expressions Discover Your Wings stamp set so I will be adding this to the Essentials by Ellen Mix It Up challenge.  And since I used polka dot paper I will also add this to the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge (let's polka).

Thanks for stopping by today...

White Christmas...

Hey friends!!  Yes... I know... Christmas is over, but Merry Monday Christmas challenge goes on all year and this week's challenge is white on white... I couldn't resist!!  I'm also playing along with the Taylored Expressions Share Joy challenge (sketch and CAS). I flipped the sketch as I liked how the image I was going to used looked down at the bottom rather than at the top.  I have a few older TE stamps set that I haven't pulled out in ages.  The set I used is called Poinsettia Bouquet.  I'm a total sucker for anything poinsettia, lol!  I stamped the image using VersaMark watermark ink, applied Liquid Platinum embossing powder and heat set.  Once that was done I trimmed the image out.  It has a matching die, but unfortunately I don't own it!  The main panel was die cut using my AJVD Polka Dot Rectangle background dies and then the triangular piece was also cut using a smaller die from the set.  I love that I was able to create my triangle with a nice finished look!  The banner was die cut using an MFT fishtail flag stax die, the sentiment stamped in VersaMark, Liquid Platinum embossing powder applied and heat set.  Layered everything up on a Simon Says Stamp fog cardstock base and added some Pretty Pink Posh marshmallow sequins.   Going to add this to the current Less is More challenge (neutrals), as well as the new CASology challenge:  simple.  Keeping everything white creates a very simple design and the layout is simple.

Thanks for stopping by today...

happy belated birthday, anita!

Hello everyone!  Here with a birthday card for a lovely bloggy friend, Anita.  Her birthday was actually last month, but Bev though it would be nice to have a little linky party for her.  I don't normally join in these birthday party links (for various and sundry reasons), but Anita is such a sweet bloggy friend that I just had to join in to wish her a very happy (but belated) birthday!   So last night I got out my Copics (haven't used them in ages!) and colored up this image from the Taylored Expressions Stargazer Lily Bouquet set.  After I finished coloring the image I trimmed it out.  The layout for the card is based on the current CAS(E) this Sketch layout.  For a bit of drama I decided to cut my banner from some black and white polka dot paper.  The sentiment (from a different TE set) was stamped on a little tag die cut using the PTI Tiny Tags die.  I adhered that and added the pink twine bow.  Finished things off with some pink and clear sequins.
Thanks for stopping by...

CMCC #3... subtle

Hello friends!!  Wednesday has arrived and with it a brand new color combo over at Colour Me!  First though must say thanks to everyone who submitted such lovely cards for last week's challenge!  This week we are working with three soft and subtle colors:  So Saffron (light yellow), Pink Pirouette (light pink) and Smoky Slate (soft grey).  All the challenge details can be found here.  I thought these colors were perfect for a mother's day card.  I used the current layout from CAS(E) this Sketch for my card.

I started by stamping the splatter image from the SU! set French Foliage twice using So Saffron ink.  I die cut the leafy branches using my Taylored Expressions Leafy Branch die from Smoky Slate cardstock and some My Mind's Eye patterned paper from the Chalk Studie Basics 6x6 pad.  They were layered togeteher and adhered over the splatter stamping.  The sentiment from the My Favorite Things set Sweet Roses was stamped in black.  I finished things off with a yellow button/twine embellishment.

Thanks for stopping by... please check out the projects created by my fellow teamies Tara, Hayley, Sam, Katie, Brenda and January guest designer, Lesley.

CardMaker-Taylored Expressions Blog Hop!!

Hello friends!!  Today is a very exciting day because the CardMaker blog team designers have joined up with designers from the Taylored Expressions design team to showcase the Taylored Expressions Stamp of the Month club.  Just hop along to each blog on the list (the complete list can be found at the CardMaker blog, as well as the Taylored Exprssions blog)  and leave a little love for a chance to win a Stamp of the Month set (and coordinating dies!!) from the TE Stamp of the Month archives!!  How cool is that??  Pretty darn cool in my book!   You have until November 22nd at midnight PST to comment for a chance to win.  If you got here from TE designer Cassie Trask's blog, then you are on the right track.   The SOTM set I using today is the August SOTM set S'more Fun (and matching dies) and is just so cute that I had to make two cards.  First up is one using the little camper image.  I used the new sketch from CAS(E) this Sketch for the layout.

The camper die cut using the matching die, stamped and colored with Copic markers.  I die cut some My Mind's Eye Cut & Paste patterned paper with a Spellbinders rectangle die, added some white cardstock at the bottom and matted it with a larger Spellbinders rectangle die.   The camper was adhered using foam dimensionals.  The sentiment was stamped, cut into a fishtail banner and adhered.

Inside of card
For my second card I useed the two tree images, as well as the little tent image.  Just like the first card this one is really simple, too.  I cut a piece of woodgrain patterned paper from the Webster's Pages Family Traditions line to fit my card front, distressed the edges a bit and stamped it with the little map image.   The trees were die cut and stamped and the tent stamped and trimmed out.  All the image were added to the map using foam dimensionals.  A strip of the same patterned paper was cut and adhered to the inside of the card, stamped with the sentiment "miss you" and then two more die cut trees added.

Please check out the Taylored Expressions website to find out all the details of this fun club, as well as the Taylored Expressions Key Ingredients Club.

Your next stop on the hop is TE designer Amy Crockett's blog.  Thanks for stopping by...

CCC #40... sunflower thanks

Helloooo friends!!   Its Tuesday and that means time for a brand new CASology cue "word" and this challenge will really have you putting on your thinking caps because the cue word is "word"!  You can find all the challenge details here.  Our guest designer this week is the very talented Karen!!!

For my card this week I decided to use a stamp that combines letters and images to make up the word.   I thought this would be a good way to show how perfect a stamp like this is for a clean and simple design.  Since it has images incorporated into the design of the word you don't have to add any other type of embellishment to the card, thus keeping it clean and simple.  This particular stamp is from Taylored Expression.  The image was stamped using Tuxedo Black ink and then colored with Copic markers.  I added some Diamond Stickles to the bee's wings and used a Sakura Gelly Roll pen to add a bit of shimmer to the bee's little trail.   Some yellow cardstock was embossed using a LifeStyle Crafts honeycomb embossing folder and used as a mat for the stamped piece.  Easy peasy lemon squeezy!!

Thanks for stopping by... I cannot wait to see what up related ideas all you super talented papercrafters come up with for this challenge!! In the meantime make sure you check out the cards from the rest of the design team: Melissa, Tracey, Jen, Ardyth, Judy, Maureen, and Meghan and our guest designer, Karen!!

good morning, sunshine...

Hello friends!!  After spending far, far too long trying to make a different card work this morning I was able to whip up little card for the current CAS(E) this Sketch challenge.  Have you ever done that??   Spent way too long trying to make something work even after it becomes obvious that it just isn't?  I try not to, but once in awhile I just can't let it go and walk away.  Thank goodness I finally was able to let it go and make something that did work, lol!!

I recently got a set of two washi tapes in a fun yellow, light blue and purple color way and decided to use it for my CAS(E) this sketch card.  Okay... I'm going to be honest it was easier to use the washi tapes to create the diagonal element then it was to stamp it!!    Once that was done I had to decide what other elements I was going to add and settled on the bright and cheery sun image along with the speech bubble with the sentiment "good morning, sunshine".  All the stamps and the die are from Taylored Expressions.

Thanks for stopping by...

see beyond...

Hello friends!!  Here with a card for the current Dynamic Duos color combo.  This week is "black tie" week and the colors are light yellow (So Saffron) and black. there is also a "dessert" option to use ribbon, but using ribbon didn't fit in the with sketch I used (Deconstructed Sketch 93) so I didn't add any.   The DS sketch is really clean and simple and so I wanted to keep my card fairly CAS, as well.

I used one of my favorite Taylored Expressions stamp sets, Discover Your Wings, for the card.  The yellow patterned paper is a little bit of paper from a Stampin Up! designer paper pack called Tea for Two and the black polka dot is from PaperTrey Ink.  It is a bit hard to see, but I used my Scor-Buddy to create score lines in the white cardstock to make it look like beadboard.  The scalloped piece was made using a EK Success punch and the butterfly is a Martha Stewart punch with a black sequin added to the body.  The banner was die cut with a fishtail flag die from My Favorite Things.

Thanks for stopping by...

CCC #35... sending you sunshine

Hello friends!!  Tuesday is here and with it comes a brand new CASology cue word!!  This week our cue word is literally out of this world!  Say hello to "extraterrestrial"!!  How about that for a cue word, huh?   Had me scratchin' my head about what I was doing to make because I was really, really stumped, lol!!   So I looked up the word in the dictionary and found that the definition states that it is anything that originated or existed outside the earth or its atmosphere, which includes the sun, the moon, the stars, asteriods, etc (have I given you some ideas??)   So, instead of little green men (actually "greys" as people steeped in Ufology... yes, that is a word I looked it up, too... would call them) I went with the sun.

The lovely layout for my card is courtesy of the ready to expire CAS(E) this Sketch layout (at the time this goes live I will have but a few hours left to get it posted).  Anywhoo... I used a lovely set from Taylored Expressions called Garden Party Blooms as it has a sun with a matching die (love those matching dies, don't you???) and the sweet sentiment I used.  The clouds were die cut using a cloud die from PTI.   The little strip of paper is from the My Mind's Eye Moments 6x6 pad and the card base was made using PTI's Blueberry Sky cs... most appropriate I thought.

Thanks for stopping by.... I really cannot wait to see what "out of this world" ideas all you super talented papercrafters come up with for this challenge!!  In the meantime make sure you check out the cards from the rest of the design team:   Melissa, Tracey, Jen, Ardyth, Judy, Maureen, Meghan and this week's guest designer, Beate.

CCC #31... tulips in red

Hello friends!!  It is Tuesday and that means time for a brand spankin' new cue word!!  And in honor of Valetine's day (which is two days from now!!) the cue word is "red".   All the details can be found here.   Our talented guest designer this week is Lucy.  Make sure you stop by and leave her some love!  We are also sponsored this week by 2CuteInk a super fun digi shop!

With red being the cue word there were just so many ways I could take my card, but one thing I decided right away was that I was not going to use the same color red that I used last week!!  This week I decided to use SU!'s Riding Hood Red and have it take a larger role by using it for my card base.  I also decided to do a little bit of coloring with my Copics.  I pulled out a Taylored Expressions petite stamp set called Spring Tulips and colored them with the following Copics:  R20, R24, R27, R29, YG00, YG03. B0000 and B000.  Once I was finished coloring the image I die cut it using a Spellbinders plain rectangle die.  I wanted to have the image framed, but I didn't want to add any addition layers to my card so I embossed the next larger die onto my cardstock base and adhered the image using foam dimensionals.  The embossed frame provides a nice, subtle detail to an otherwise somewhat plain card.   Finished things off by stamping the sentiment (also from Spring Tulips) directly on the card base with black ink.

Thanks for stopping by.... make sure you check out the cards from the rest of the design team: Melissa, Tracey, Jen, Ardyth, Judy, Maureen, Meghan and this week's guest designer, Lucy. Can't wait to see what you come up with using this week's cue word!

CCC #26... winter wishes

Hello friends!!  Tuesday has arrived and that means time for a brand new CASology challenge!! This week the cue word is "winter"... a perfect choice for this time of year wouldn't you say?    All the challenge details can be found here.   This week our special guest designer is Marlou!!  I know you will be wowed by her sample!

I had several ideas as to what I would make for this week's cue word, but honestly I was feeling a bit lazy and opted to use the current Retro Sketch to help me put my card together.  I have said it before and I will say it again... if you are having a problem figuring out how to put together a CAS card a clean and simple sketch can be very, very helpful!!   The stamps I used are from a fun Taylored Expressions stamp set call Love Grows here.  The image was stamped using Tuxedo Black ink on white cardstock and then die cut using a Spellbinders Labels 18 die.   I colored the image with Copic markers, as well as a Tuxedo Black marker and then added the little snowflake button (a gift from my sweet friend, Nat) and a twine bow.  The image was then mounted over some My Mind's Eye All is Bright washi tape.  Once that was done I stamped the sentiment.   You can still add embellishments to a CAS design, as long as you keep them to a minimum.

Thanks for stopping by.... make sure you check out the cards from the rest of the design team: Melissa, Tracey, Jen, Ardyth, Judy, Maureen, Meghan and this week's guest designer, Marlou, Can't wait to see what you come up with using this week's cue word!

love you always....

Hello friends.... wow!!  2012 is almost over!! Time sure does fly doesn't it??  The holiday rush is over for another year.   Hope everyone had a wonderful Christimas!! I did... I got a Nook from my boys!!!

I don't know about you, but I haven't had the time to get any crafting done and if I had the time I just didn't feel like making anything.  That was until I saw the inspiration photo for the December PTI blog hop.  I wasn't able to play along, but the photos were so pretty that I just had to make something.  So I combined it with the current PTI "Make it Monday" challenge.  I only played in a few MIM's this year and if they continue it in 2013 I hope to play along more.

For this card I revisited the "glitter buttons" MIM.  I used the PTI anniversary set Pretty Peonies and the matching dies.   After die cutting the butterfly from Soft Stone cardstock I stamped the butterfly with VersaMark watermark ink, white embossing powder applied and then heat set.  The oval frame was die cut from white cardstock, stamped with VersaMark, clear embossing powder applied and heat set.  The leafy branches are a Taylored Expressions die and they were die cut from vellum and then some Ice Stickles applied to them as well.   Along the edge of the card I adhered a paper doily border, some Soft Stone ribbon and then layered everything else up and finished by adhering the glitter button and the sentiment. Here is a detail shot showing the butterfly a little better.  Picture isn't so great... sigh....

Thanks for stopping by....

time for tea

Hello friends!!  Have a card for the current Less is More challenge which is drinks (any kind you choose).  My stamp choices for this category are limited to basically one stamp set, my Taylored Expressions Creativi-Tea set and one image in a Stampin Up! set.  I used to have a set of DeNami Design tropical drink stamps, but I gave those away to a friend.   So I went with my Creativi-Tea set.  Stamped the tea pot using light blue ink and trimmed it out.  The little medallion the tea pot is sitting on was stamped using Cherry Cobbler ink and trimmed out, as well.  The banner was cut using my MFT Fishtail Flag Stax dies.  The card was a bit plain until I added the little blue buttons.

A Little Birdie

{for my Shining the Light post scroll down or click here}

Hello... I'm back with my card for this week's CASology challenge and guess what??? It features a bird!!   The cue word this week at CASology is sky.   So many things can be found in the sky.... birds, planes, etc.   All the information can be found here.  Let your imagination fly!!!

I have had this Memory Box die Perched Reed Bird for a few weeks now and had been looking for a project to use it on.   This week's CASology challenge was the perfect chance.   I went with a kinda bold autumnal color combo for my card... dark yellow and dark red.  I punched a partial circle out of the dark yellow card stock piece.  The bird was die cut from dark red cardstock and then adhered to the dark yellow slightly overlapping into the open space.  Then I stamped the sentiment (from a Taylored Expressions set Make it Amazing).  The entire piece was then adhered to the card base.  I used a tiny black rhinestone for the bird's eye.  I love the graphic look to the card and it also highlights the fact that "white space" doesn't need to actually be white, lol!

Thanks for stopping by....make sure you check out the cards from the rest of the design team:  Melissa, Tracey, Jen, Ardyth and this week's guest designer, Meghan! Can't wait to see what you come up with using this week's cue word!

thankful for you...

Hello friends!!  Hope you are having a lovely weekend!  I'm popping in with a card for this week's Less is More challenge, as well as One Layer Wednesday.   I haven't done a OLW challenge in ages!!  But the LIM challenge (to make a one layer card and use foliage) and the OLW challenge (to make a card expressing gratitude) dovetailed perfectly!!  YAY!!  I love the idea behind this week's OLW because Susan (of Simplicity and founder of OLW) is so right that Thanksgiving has become a sort of "lost holiday" here in the US.  So much focus is put on Halloween and then once Halloween is done the rush is on to get to Christmas and in the process Thanksgiving gets sort of "lost in the shuffle".   I'm going to try to make sure that this year I'm more thankful at Thanksgiving and to let friends and family know how thankful I am to have them in my life!

I rooted around in my stamp stash rejecting various sets until I remembered that I had never, no never, inked up any of the stamps in the super cute Taylored Expressions set Love Grows Here.  The set is full of sweet little images of trees for various seasons of the year.  I used the image with the picket fence because it made me think of fall.  I colored the image with Copic markers and then added the sentiment (from the MFT ALM set Sweetest Pumpkin in the Patch) using Real Rust ink.  Sweet and simple!

Now I don't normally share personal photos, but I just had to share one or two of my little guy as he headed into school on Friday.  He is one of the things that I am so very thankful for!!  He looks so serious in the photo on the left!   He was so cute on Thursday as I drove him down to school exclaiming to me "I love school, mom"!  Hopefully he will always feel that way about school!!

Thanks for stopping by....

just because....

Hello friends!!!  Have a little card today for the current Dynamic Duos challenge.  The layout is based on Chupa's current Sketchbook Saturday sketch and boy oh boy did I give myself a challenge when I combined the two!  I spent quite sometime on this card to make the monochromatic color combo with the sketch, but in the end I think I succeeded quite nicely.

I used a favorite Taylored Expressions set called Make it Amazing.  The set is full of lovely butterfly images and beautiful sentiments.  The other thing I like about the set is that it has a set of matching dies which I used for the card.  Initially I had some patterned paper in the mix, but in the end got rid of it because it just wasn't working for me.   This was one of those cards that as I was putting all of the elements together I wasn't too sure it would work, but once I had the card completed I really liked the overall effect.   Thinking about putting this into one of the Moxie Fab challenges... the asymetrical challenge.  What do you think?    ETA:  Decided to pop this into the above mentioned MF challenge!

CCC #6... School Time

{for my Shining the Light post scroll down or click here.}

Hello friends... I'm back with my card for this week's CASology challenge!!  This week our cue word is "school".   You can find all the details for this week's challenge here.  Our guest designer this week is Shirley!!
 !

When I saw the cue word for this week I knew exactly what I was going to use to make my card.  A really cool set from Taylored Expressions called The Places You Will Go.  This set has some really fun images and great quotes from people like Dr. Seuss.  I made my card a graduation card and used one of the Dr. Seuss quotes along with a little balloon with morter board image.  The overall design was very plain so to jazz things up a bit I colored the hat with Copic markers and added some Diamond Stickles.  The last detail was to round one corner of the image panel, as well as the card base.

Thanks for stopping by....make sure you check out the cards from the rest of the design team:
Melissa, Tracey, Jen, Ardyth and this week's guest designer, Shirley! Can't wait to see what you come up with using this week's cue word!

Pink Butterfly...

Hello friends!!   Have a card I made for a few challenges.  A few weeks ago I entered a card into the Deconstructed Sketch challenge (love that challenge!) and to my delight discovered the following week that Jen, the super talented creator of said Deconstructed Sketch, had picked my card as one of her favorites!!  So cool!!!   My card today uses the current Deconstructed Sketch and the color combo from Dynamic Duos (pink and celery green).  I'm also going to pop this into the current Catered Crop challenge to use white.

The stamps are from two Taylored Expressions sets:  Make it Amazing and Vintage Dreamer.  I stamped the butterfly from Make it Amazing using Pretty in Pink ink and then die cut it using the matching TE butterfly die.  The circular image from Vintage Dreamer was stamped using Certain Celery and then die cut using a Spellbinders plain circle.  I used my Swiss Dot embossing folder on the green cardstock so that everything wasn't quite so flat.  The bow was made using my absolutely adorable bow die set from Lil' Inker Designs.   I did modify the bow a bit by cutting the tail piece in half and then arranging the ends as you see.

Thanks for stopping by....

you're amazing....

Hello friends!!  A quick post with a card I made for the current JUGs challenge that uses the current Deconstructed sketch.   Haven't done a JUGs challenge in ages!  Not entirely sure why other than by the time I get around to thinking about doing the challenge it is over!   But this time I was determined that I would get something made before the challenge ended.  The challenge this week is to make a project based on a beautiful inspiration photo.  I was pretty literal in my intrepretation, I think.

Anywhoo... for my card I used the Taylored Expressions set "Make it Amazing" and the card stock and papers are from one of my Taylored Expression Key Ingredients kit (I don't remember which month).  That particular kit came with a pad of 6x6 papers from Echo Park, the This & That line.  The butterfly was stamped using Memento Tuxedo Black, colored with Copic markers and die cut using the matching TE butterfly die.  The little twiggy branch was also stamped and die cut using the matching TE die.  The zig zag piece was die cut using a die from My Favorite Things.   I finished off the butterfly by adding a bit of Diamond Stickles to the body and wings.

Thanks for stopping by...
