turn your face....

hello friends!   got a chance to make a card for the current flourishes challenge.  i love flourishes stamps, but lately it seems i hardly ever get a chance to get something done for their weekly challenges.  but i loved the inspiration photo for this week's challenge and was determined to get something made.  i used the current deconstructed sketch to help me along.

i'm pretty happy with how well this card turned out given the fact that i have been dealing with a migraine all day.  i hate migraines!!!  i don't get really, really bad ones like some people do, but occasionally i will get one that just saps my energy.  i have that kind today.... dinner will be pizza!!  anywhoo... i used one of my favorite flourishes sets, sunflowers, along with my very favorite dies... my favorite things fishtail flag stax.  i use them so much i think i'm going to wear them out!!  papers are from my mind's eye lost & found 2 sunshine 6x6 pad.

well... that's about all from me...  thanks for stopping by...

a christmas wish...

hello friends!!  happy wednesday!  here with a little circle card that i made for several challenges:  dynamic duos (pool party & soft suede), flourishes (winter cards) and catered crop (circle round challenge).   and can i just say that i'm really, really pleased with my little card??

inside of card
the idea for this card came when i saw dynamic duos dt member kim's beautiful christmas card.  i would have never thought to make a christmas card with these colors, but i really think the combo is actually perfect for christmas... icy yet warm at the same time.  anywhoo... i knew i wanted to use my new stampin up! set christmas blessings.   i got the set because i love poinsettias (and thanks to some very helpful tips from the gal in the floral dept. of my local grocery store i now know how to keep them alive all through the holiday season!) and the poinsettia image in the set is just gorgeous!  i stamped the image using pool party and then added the little pearls that a shade lighter than soft suede.  there is a sentiment in the set that i wanted to use for the front of the card, but it didn't fit on my fishtail flag so i used this lovely sentiment from the flourishes set petals and peace.  it went perfectly with the sentiment that i used on the inside of the card.  after stamping and die cutting the sentiment with a fishtail flag die i trimmed the end, adhered it to the card and added the button and twine embellishment.  the card base was cut using the largest die in the spellbinders lacey circle dies set and then dies from the small and large plain circle dies from spellbinders.

unleash your joy.....

hello friends!   have a card today that i made for the flourishes "think pink" challenge which closes in a few hours!  this week is release week at flourishes and when it is release week they always have fun challenges.  the "think pink" challenge was the only one i was able to get completed in time.

when i saw the challenge theme i knew right away i would use my flourishes sweet peas set.  it is one of the first flourishes set i purchased and it is still one of my favorites.  i stamped the smaller sweet pea image using tuxedo black ink, colored the image with copics and then die cut it with a plain spellbinders die.  the papers i used are from my mind's and the lovely bit of lace is a little freebie that i received in a recent order from the funkie junkie.   the banners were cut using my MFT fishtail flag stax dies.  the sentiment is from the flourishes country charm labels set.  the layout is courtesy of the current deconstructed sketch.  as the lace i used is from the funkie junkie i'm going to pop this into the sunday share at frilly & funkie.

thanks for stopping by....

fall colors....

hello friends!!  fall is here and i have a little card that i made using some lovely fall colors found in the current colourQ challenge.  the layout for this card is based on the current sketchbook saturday sketch.  and since i have used fall colors and leaves i'm going to be entering this into the current timeless tuesday challenge, as well.

the stamps i used are from the wplus9 design stamp sets woodgrain silhouettes & woodgrain silhouettes additions.  both sets contain solid images of leaves in several sizes that fit perfectly with the idea i had in mind for my card.  the largest leave is actually part of a spray of two leaves, but i was able to ink up just one leaf and then stamp it using the pumpkin pie ink.  the other leaves were stamped using rich razzleberry ink and versamagic pumpkin spice chalk ink.  the sentiment from the flourishes zinnias set was stamped using latte chalk ink.  i added a rhinestone to each leaf for a little bit of shine.

thanks for stopping by....

Flourishes Birthday Fun...

Hello friends!!  I have a couple more cards that I made for the Flourishes birthday celebration!  Flourishes is turning 5 and they are having a party!!  And with that party comes some fantastic challenges and opportunities to wins some fabulous prizes.  I was determined to make sure that I completed all four challenges!  Last week I got two done and today I'm sharing the final two.

First up is my card for the color challenge.  I went with a really simple design for my card.  I used the Flourishes set Love and Lace to create a Mother's Day card.   I stamped the wreath image from the set using SU! Pumpkin Pie ink, die cut it with a Spellbinders plain circle die and then ink distressed the edges using Ranger's Old Paper distress ink.  The mother image as stamped using SU! Pretty in Ink, die cut and ink distressed, as well.  I inked the edges of the white cardstock piece with Old Paper ink, as well.  The two images were layered using foam dimensionals. The patterned paper is from the My Mind's Eye Bluebell 6x6 pad.  I finished the card of with some green pleated ribbon from Stampin Up! and a sentiment in the lower right hand corner.

My second card is for the sweet challenge.  When I saw that challenge I immediately thought of cupcakes or cake... and I don't have any Flourishes sets with either of those things in them!  The I had a "doh" moment!  I could use the peaches image from the Cherries & Peaches set.  I colored the image with Copics and then trimmed it out.  The mustard colored cardstock was die cut using a Labels 18 die with a portion of it trimmed off one side.  After tying the ribbon around the cardstock piece I layered the die cut, the peaches image and the buttons.  And once, again, I stamped the sentiment in the lower right hand corner!  Seriously... didn't plan that one!!
Thanks for stopping by....

CCC #8.... Relax

{for my Shining the Light post, please scroll down or click here}

Hello... Its me, again!  Back with my card for this week's CASology challenge.  Wow... I was so completely blown away by all the fabulous cards that were entered into the green challenge!  It was soo hard picking the winner!  All I can say is ladies... You Rock!!!   This week the cue word is Relax.  All the challenge details can be found here.

Yes... I used green on my card this week!  I really wanted to use another color, but when I think about things that remind me of the word "relax" the color green is almost always associated with those thoughts!   Green is such a calm and relaxing color to me and I just had to use it!  I went with a white on white design with a pop of green from the ink, the ribbon and pearls.  The layout is based on the current Retro Sketch.  I used a Spellbinders Labels 18 die (the largest one) to cut the white cardstock and then stamped it with a fern image and sentiment from the Flourishes Ferns & Fiddles set.  One edge was trimmed to be flush with the card edge.  Ribbon and pearls finished things off.

Thanks for stopping by....make sure you check out the cards from the rest of the design team:
Melissa, Tracey, Jen, Ardyth and this week's guest designer, Karen! Can't wait to see what you come up with using this week's cue word!

Banners & Daisies....

Hello friends!!  Friday has arrived and I have a couple of cards to share with you.   Flourishes (one of my favorite stamp companies!!) is turning five and they are celebrating with some fun challenges over on their blog.  And since you have until the end of the month to complete each challenge I thought I would play along (and the fact that they are giving away some fabby prizes doesn't hurt!!).

First up is a card for their banner challenge.  I had to think  for a bit about what Flourishes set I could use for the challenge and then remembered that the Peaches and Cherries set has these sweet little images of peaches and cherries.  After figuring out which images would fit best on the little My Favorite Things banner die I chose to use I decided to just go with the small cherry image.  I die cut banners, stamped two with the cherries and one with the sentiment.  After I got the images colored I punched small holes in the corners and then used some bakers twine to string them on.   The the little string of banners was adhered to the card.   I kept everything very simple for this card as I wanted to let the little banners take center stage.

The second card is for the sprinkles challenge.  I actually started this card days ago, but ran into some problems when I got to the adding sprinkles part.  Had to throw my entire image (that I spent along time coloring with my Copics) in the trash.  Wasn't very happy with that outcome.  So  I set the card aside until last night and put my second idea to work.  It turned out much better.  The layout for this card is based on another lovely sketch provided by Chupa.  Her Sketchbook Saturday sketches are always the best!! I colored the gerber daisies image with Copics (R29, R39, R89, YG93, YG95 & YG97) and then die cut it using my ODBD tag die.  After I die cut the image I added Buttercup Stickles glitter glue to the center of each flower.  The little banner was created by cutting a strip of cardstock and then using a small square punch to cut the fishtail ends.  I learned that little trick from my bloggy friend, Michelle, on this post.  The fence was die cut using a Memory Box die.

Thanks for stopping by....

Let Life's....

Hello friends!!   Found some time today to make a card for the current Flourishes Timeless Tuesday challenge.  Haven't done a Timeless Tuesday in ages, but when I saw that the challenge was to use kraft I just had to make some thing.... I love me some kraft!!   I combined the challenge with Chupa's current Sketchbook Saturday sketch because.... I love me some Sketchbook Saturday sketches, lol!!

I just had to use one of my very favorite Flourishes sets, Sunflowers, for my card.  For me combining the sunflower images with kraft is like a marriage made in heaven... they go together perfectly!  Colored the large sunflower with Copic markers and then trimmed it out.  The Spellbinders Lacey circle was die cut from some yellow PTI Distressed Dots paper and then a Spellbinders Plain circle was die cut from Vintage Cream.  I stamped the smaller sunflower image on some kraft cardstock that was cut to fit the card front using VersaMark watermark ink and then the sentiment was stamped over that with Tuxedo Black ink.  I finished the card off with some Pure Poppy double stitched ribbon to pick up the red in the little ladybug sitting on the sunflower.

Thanks for stopping by....

Happy Birthday to You....

Hello friends!!  The week is half way over, the weekend is fast approaching and the summer is just flying by!  Can't believe I need to start thinking about getting my kids school supplies and new clothes!!  Yikes!!

Anywhoo... have a little card I made using the current Desconstructed Sketch.  Last week I was super excited to see that Jen had picked the card I submitted to her last DS challenge as one of her weekly favorites!!  That had me smiling all day long!!  This week I'm totally bummed because I wasn't able to get the card entered in time!!  Shoot!!   Entering the card in the Flourishes Birthday Wishes challenge.  The papers are from the Cosmo Cricket Tea for Two 6x6 pad and the stamps are from Flourishes, of course.

I hadn't done one of my litte ribbon/tag combos in a while and decided to make one for this card.  The tag was stamped using Memento Bamboo Leaves and the sentiment using SU!'s So Saffron.  The ribbon (as well as the papers) is from my July Taylored Expressions Key Ingredients kit.  The buttons are from DeNami Designs and the twine is from May Arts.

Thanks for stopping by.....

CCC #5 - Pond Life...

{for my Shining the Light post scroll down or click here)

Hello friends... I back with my post for this week's CASology challenge.  This week the cue word is "pond".  All the details can be found here.   Our guest designer this week is Joyce!

Once, again, when I saw the cue word I was a bit worried... what do I have that can be found in or around a pond???   First thing that came to mind was my Flourishes set "What a Catch".  The set has this cool image of a fish jumping out of the water as it tries to catch a fly which I used on the card.  I stamped the image using Memento's Tuxedo Black ink and then colored the image with Copic markers and then added the sentiment.  The layout I used is one that I have used many, many times for cards because it is tried and true and because it adheres to the simple design principle of creating a visual triangle.   The eye is naturally drawn to a visual triangle and it is easy to create one with your image and sentiment as I have done on my card.   The main image forms one side of the triangle while the sentiment forms another side.  The third side of the triangle is made by invisible connection between the end of the sentiment and the top of the image.  Make sense???  I hope so, lol!!

Thanks for stopping by....make sure you check out the cards from the rest of the design team:

Love is a fruit...

Hello, friends!!  Today I have a card that is not clean and simple, but more on the shabby chic side of things.  I love moving between those two styles of cardmaking (and you may just see me combine the two!).  CAS is my preferred style, but I do creating cards with multiple layers, lace, and embellishments.    My card is for the current Timeless Tuesday challenge to put the focus on your sentiment.   The layout is from the current Deconstructed Sketch

I used the Flourishes set "Mother's Words of Wisdom" and some sweet papers from Websters Pages (Western Romance).   Not much to say... all the cardstock and papers were distressed with my distressing tool.  The sentiment was stamped on patterned paper using Vintage Sepia ink and then punch out with an SU! tag punch.  I created the mat by adhering the tag to some kraft cardstock and then trimming it out.   The lace and twine are from May Arts and the flowers are from Prima.

Thanks for stopping by... hope to be back later with my Less is More card.

Dad....

Hello, friends!  Hope your week is going well.   So far so good here, except that the weather is not so great. Hopefully that will change in the next few days.   Anywhoo... on to my card.  I can't believe it, but I actually got a card done for the current Timeless Tuesday challenge and I got it done on the first day of the challenge!    I had been wanting to make a card using the current Deconstructed Sketch and the new TT challenge was the perfect fit.

This week the challenge is to make a father's day card.   I only have one set from Flourishes that has father's day sentiments in it and that is "What a Catch", so I got that out and went to work.  I was also being thrifty today and dug through all my scraps to come up with the patterned papers to use on the card.  I believe they are from the My Mind's Eye Breeze 6x6 pad. I had a headache earlier as I was making the card so I decided to keep things simple and not spend the extra time coloring the fish image.  But I have to say that I really like how it looks simply stamped using SU!'s Taken with Teal ink.  I stamped the word "Dad" on the main image panel and then finished off the inside (sorry didn't take a picture) with additional sentiments from the set that say "You're so fly.  Happy Father's Day".

Thanks for stopping by...

Its a Boy!

{For my Shining the Light post click here}

Hello, again!  Saturday is almost done and I have another card to share.  This one works for several challenges:  Less Is More (Baby or Child - I went with Baby), Flourishes Timeless Tuesday (Use 3 of something starting with one letter.  I went with "b") and Sketchbook Saturday.

When I saw the LIM challenge this morning I was so thankful that last month I won a super cute baby set that was included in the April Flourishes release.  I was also thankful that Chupa's wonderful sketch this week would work perfectly for a CAS style card!  Since I'm still in my white on white with a pop of color mood I went with using just white and baby blue (one of my "b" items... the others are bow, buttons, baby & boy).  I cut a piece of PTI's Bitty Box Basics paper in Spring Rain and adhered it to my card front.  The fishtail flag was cut from PTI's white cardstock using the largest Fishtail Flag die from the MFT Fishtail Flag Stax set (I absolutely LOVE those dies!!) and adhered over the patterned paper.   Then I added the Spring Rain double stitched ribbon.  The onesie was stamped on the patterned paper using black ink, trimmed out and adhered to the card using foam dimensionals.  The sentiment was added using black ink followed by three little Spring Rain buttons.  I matted the white piece with some Spring Rain cardstock.   Pretty cute, don't ya think?

Thanks for stopping by....

you inspire me...

Hello!  Have a card today for the current Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge.  Silke is the challenge hostess this week and she has asked us to make a project using  pink.  This was the perfect opportunity for me to finally use the Glitz Design Pretty In Pink 6x6 pad that I received with my Flourishes 123Create April kit.  The stamps I used are the Flourishes Year of Flowers 2 and Sweet Violets.    The layout is from this month's Sketch for You to Try.

Once, again, I have found myself feeling like I'm not very creative right now and so I kept things simple.  I colored the rose image from YoF 2 with Copic markers and then trimmed it out.   It was then popped up on some white cardstock that was matted with pink.   The sentiment was stamped on the bottom strip and the pearls added to add a bit more interest.   I thought about adding some lace to the upper strip, but in the end decided not to as it just didn't look right.  I still in my white on white with some pops of color mode, too.   Mainly because I just love how clean and crisp it makes everything look.

Thanks for stopping by....

Hellooo....

Hey... wow... can't believe the last time I posted anything was Sunday!!   And honestly... I don't think that is such a bad thing.  I have made a couple of cards over the last week, just can't post them yet.   And I haven't really felt like doing any challenges until today.   So...I have two cards to share.  Both cards are for Flourishes noontime challenges.  This week is release week at Flourishes and when it is a Flourishes release week I like to try to participate in at one or two of their challenges.  Last month it paid off because I was one of the lucky winners of the entire Flourishes April release!!!

Inside of Card
The first card is for their "Pretty in Purple" challenge.  Pretty self-explanatory I think... make a project using purple.  After I got done with my card I realized that it was a little on the severe side, but I think my mother-in-law will like it all the same since I made it to give to her for Mother's Day.  I used one of the sets I won last month, Love and Lace, as well as the Sweet Violets set.  The purple I used the new Stampin Up! Wisteria Wonder.   It is more of a blue-purple and I love it!!   Along with the Wisteria Wonder color I used some grey cardstock to make the purple pop a bit more, but not sure it was the best choice.  Anywhoo... I stamped the images and diecut them.  Everything was layered on a white cardstock piece that was run through my Big Shot in a Sizzix embossing folder.  Some tiny rhinestones were added at the cross points on the embossed design.  I also finished the interior of the card with the circular design used on the front and the sentiment.

The second card is for their "Let's Hear it for the Boys" challenge.  Again, pretty self-explanatory I think... make a masculine project.  For this card I used the Flourishes set "What a Catch".  I went with a very simple design for this card.  I got some goodies today from the Funkie Junkie Etsy shop and used a few on this card.  The burlap ribbon and the little clothes pin.  The little tag is from Stampin Up! and was perfect to stamp the word "Dad" on.  The interior was finished off very simply with just a piece of white cardstock stamped with the sentiment.  This card will be going to my father-in-law come Father's Day.

Thanks for stopping by....

Mellow Yellow...

Hey there... Hope your weekend has been going well.   Spent part of the day helping my oldest write a report for his Social Studies class on the Crusades.   And I have to say I learned a thing or two along the way!  Anywhoo... have a card that works for several different challenges:  Less is More (color challenge:  yellow); Retro Sketches, Flourishes (use a butterfly) and Catered Crop (use something starting with the letter B - butterfly).   This also works for CAS-ual Fridays... so maybe I will pop it into that challenge, as well.

Back in April I was super lucky and won the entire April Flourishes release... three beautiful stamp sets and a gorgeous background stamp!  For my card I decided to use the background stamp, Antique Lace, along with stamps from two other Flourishes sets:  Clematis & Butterflies & Botanical Bookplates.   I stamped the Antique Lace on white cardstock using SU!'s So Saffron, trimmed it to fit the card front and adhered using foam dimensionals.  I cut another piece of white cardstock and stamped the sentiment in bottom corner and then the butterflies were stamped using So Saffron ink.  A piece of So Saffron grosgrain ribbon was then tied around the piece.  This piece was then adhered using more foam dimensionals.  I stamped the another butterfly using Tuxedo Black ink, colored it with Copic markers and trimmed it out.  A light coating of Diamond Stickles was applied and then the butterfly was adhered to the card as shown.  I seem to be in a white on white with a pop of color mood right now as this is the third one I have made in the last several days.  IThe is just something about a crisp white card that makes me happy!

Thanks for stopping by....

peaches...

{For my Shining the Light post, click here}

Hey there... back with a card for this week's Timeless Tuesday challenge.  The challenge this week is to use fruit on your project.  Flourishes has lots of stamp sets that feature fruit, unfortunately I only own one of those sets:  Cherries & Peaches.   Definitely need to change that situation!!    The layout for the card is based on the current sketch from Retro Sketches.   Lovin' those Retro Sketches!!   The card I submitted for last week's Retro Sketch earned a shout out... thanks, ladies!!!

Earlier in the day I had made a card that used papers from the My Mind's Eye Sunshine 6x6 pad and I had some of those scraps laying around so I decided to continue in that theme with this card.  I stamped the peaches image using SU!'s More Mustard, trimmed out the image and then applied some Scattered Straw and Spiced Marmalade distress inks to the image.  After that was done a light coating of Diamond Stickles was applied.  Some of the patterned paper was trimmed to fit the sketch, as was a piece of cream cardstock.  The edges of the cream piece were distressed with Ranger's Old Paper distress ink.  Added a bit of lace and then layered two buttons together using some brown twine.  I also finished the interior of the card with some patterned paper and the remainder of the lace.  The sentiment was stamped inside, as well.

Thanks for stopping by....

Flourishes Noontime Challenges...

Hey there!!   This week is release week at Flourishes and to go along with the sneak peeks they are having some noontime challenges.   I was able to get something made for the Wednesday noontime challenge to use lace, as well as the Thursday noontime challenge to make a bookmark.

For the Lovely in Lace challenge, I went super simple, using some patterned paper from the My Mind's Eye Sunshine 6x6 pad and an the tiger lily image from A Year of Flowers 2 set.   I stamped the image using Tuxedo Black ink and then colored it with Copic markers using the Sunflower collection (Y21, Y23, Y35 & Y38).  The image was die cut using a Spellbinders plain circle die.  The scalloped mat was cut from some Sunshine paper using a Spellbinders Large Scallop circle die.   A strip of lace was added and the image adhered over that.  I finished off the inside of the card by adding strips of Sunshine papers, a bit of lace and stamping the sentiment from the Botanical Bookplate 1 set.

For the Book Worm Challenge, I made a bookmark using a PaperTrey Ink Half & Half die.  I diecut the patterned paper using the die and then to create the mat I placed the die on my cardstock, traced around it and then trimmed it out.  The image is the snowdrop image from Botantical Bookplates 1.   The image was stamped using Tuxedo Black, colored with Copics and then die cut using the matching Botanical Bookplates die.  A mat was created by adhering the die cut image to cardstock and then trimming around it.  I added a little mini binder clip with a bit of black twine tied in a bow.

Thanks for stopping by....

Supplies:  Cardstock:  PTI white; Bazzill green and red; PP:  MME Sunshine; Stamps:  Flourishes; Ink:  Memento; Copic Markers; Lace:  May Arts; Twine:  PTI;  Mini Binder clip:  SU!; Dies:  Flourishes Tailor-Made Bookplate die; Spellbinders plain and scalloped circle dies; Ribbon:  unknown
