Bed Sheets??

Last night as we were getting into bed I made a comment about how dirty our sheets looked and that I had just changed them 2 weeks ago. Shawn asked me how often I thought other people changed their sheets. I told him I'm sure that it wasn't every week like he thought it should be. I told him I was going to do a survey of women and see how often they changed their sheets. I've already talked to a few people and as I predicted most people change their sheets once a month or once every 2 months. I'm not trying to incriminate anyone but I am trying to prove a point to my husband...that changing sheets is on the bottom of the priority list when you have a houseful of kids to take care of.....not mention a husband.
Tell me how often you change your sheets so that we can settle this debate

I am with Shawn in that I like to have my sheets washed every week. I also know if I want that I am going to need to do it myself. I figure if you want a level of cleanliness or order you need to make it happen. Many times it happens many times it doesn't. So what, he can run multi-million dollar hospitals but can't figure out the washing machine? Tell him he can do it in between commercials during one of his Saturday sports watching blocks.

so i like clean sheets, but my problem is that i HATE putting them back on the bed....we have an agreement in our house that goes like this: i will wash the bedding every week, but dave puts them all back on when he gets home! we both win. :)
good luck!

First off welcome to the wonderful world of blogging. Thanks for your comment on Charlene's cake. I am way behind, but will catch up soon....I hope.
As for the sheet debate. I too feel it is on the bottom of the looong list of priorities, however I change our about every 2 weeks. Only because I have seen the nasty bed bugs and things that love to live in our sheets and it is gross!

Well... ideally I would change the sheets every 10 days or so. Two weeks seems like too long to me, and one week is not long enough. The reality though is that it probably gets done every 2-3 weeks. The kids both have loft beds, so it's especially hard to change those, not something I look forward to anyway.

OK, at the risk of people never wanting to come to my house again, I will admit to going quite a while between changing sheets. It just is not a priority to me right now. I used to try to do the weekly/every 2 week change - and I kept up with that for a while - BEFORE kids! Then during bed-wetting ages, I was washing at least someone's sheets multiple times/week. Now that we're past that stage - I'm very happy to only wash sheets when I can tell they need it - or I realize how long it's been.

I try to get the sheets washed about every two weeks. In my opinion, washing the sheets every week seems like alot of extra laundy. By washing the sheets every other week I save myself 26 loads of laundry in a year!

In our busy world, we probably wash our sheets every other week. Just keeping up on the regular laundry is tricky enough without adding 7 extra loads. I haven't been able to convince my children yet that I don't need to wash their blankets and comforters every time. So, they put them in the bottom of the dirty clothes, hence the need to wash them every time. UGHHHHHHH!!!

Every other week seems great to me. Good luck!

Joella,

I am with you with washing the sheets once a month during the winter. During the summer however I like them washed once a week becuase of everyone being hotter and you feel more comfortable in clean dry sheets. The only other exceptions would be if anyone is sick I wash the sheets as soon as they are improving and if we go away anywhere I like to come home to fresh sheets and clean bed.

Now with me being disabled I usually can strip our bed and Jenn's bed myself and take the sheets down to the washer. Since Jenn's bed is a daybed most of the time I can make it myself. I always wash the sheets right before she comes home from school so she is comfortable in her bed. With our bed since a queen bed I usually need the help of hubby to remake the bed since our mattress is so thick, plus sometimes I want the mattress roated and I can't do that myself.

Hubbies are not immune to being able to help with the wash, mine has to help me almost all the time carry things up and downstairs and also with folding.

One last thing that may help with having to wash the sheets so often is to have mutliple sets to put on the beds. So usually you can remake the bed not long after you strip it unless of course the bed needs to air out. This gives you more time to wash the sheets at will instead of right away.

Hope this helps sone.

When I was growing up, you just knew on Sunday morning to take the sheets off your bed and Mom would wash them.

As an adult, I have to wash our sheets, blanket and quilt EVERY week because of my allergy to dust mites. But Kaylyn and Morgan's sheets are not as regular.

But no matter what, to be comfortable, I have to make my bed neatly before I can get a good night's sleep. And I agree with those who have commented that if this is a priority for Shawn, he can do the opposite week.

I hate to air our dirty laundry on the web, but I only change our sheets once a month. I love clean sheets and if I had the time I would change them once a week or at least once every two weeks, but I'm already up to my chin (literally) in laundry, as I'm sure you understand. I think most people probably say that they change their sheets once a week but in reality only change them once every month or two. I do have to say that we visited an allergist who said that you should change your sheets once a week because of dust mites and critters that eat skin cells and that you should most definitely use bleach. Hmmmm. One more thing for me to worry about.

I think fresh, clean sheets are awesome. That said, it is not something I experience as frequently as I would like. I think Shawn either does the off weeks or he does something you would like done more frequently and you do the sheets. Larry has never mentioned anything about the sheets. I don't think I'm going to bring it up, either. I needed new sheets and got some 1200 thread counts that were on a way awesome sale. I love them and they always look so nice even between washings.

I'd ideally do it once a week, but I get to it every two weeks, Unless one of the girls spills chocolate milk or eats goldfish in there.... Then I am forced to stop living in filth and change them regardless!

I TRY to wash them every 2 weeks...but it doesn't always happen that often. Matt is great and doesn't complain...he loves it when I actually take the time to MAKE the bed!

joella,
fun to find you guys.
hope all is well with your family!

so, this may not be the best first comment to leave on your blog - but we wash are sheets about every 5-7 days. we have all white sheets and i bleach the heck out of them every week, i actually can't stand sleeping on them on day 8 if they have not been washed. it is probably the only crazy cleaning habit i have - but once you start you can't quit. when i was pregnant i had so much energy i would do them every 3 days and iron the pillowcases. if i had the time i would still do that but reality of life sets in.
we only have one set per bed which makes be get them in the wash and back on the beds as fast as I can or else i will fall asleep sheetless.
I buy them as sams club and they are 600 thread count and become as soft as butter by 9 months. but because i love to have them bleached it wears them out fast and I end up buying new sheets every year, but totally worth it.

so there are my 2 cents!
your family is darling!

Hey Guys,

First I must say that I have a great husband who washes dishes every night, puts the kids to bed, helps them with there weekly chores, etc. But on sheets we just are not on the same page.
To all of you that wash your sheets one time a week--kudos to you. For those of you-like me- who are not yet perfect in that part of housecleaning just keep plugging along and maybe one day we can all sleep on clean sheets. Joella

Shawn is dreaming again! Your Uncle Don loves clean sheets! But he only gets them ever other week! Sometimes every third week! xoxo Aunt Patty

I only wish I could remember to change my sheets weekly or even monthly....we probably change them every 2 months or so, unless we are in a hurry while changing a dirty diaper on the bed.....ooops. That's what we get for having 2 babies so close in age.

Hey...hope you guys are doing well. Found you on the Allison's blog.

Joella, I am your anonymous and relatively new friend who confesses that I usually only change sheets monthly- and even longer sometimes for my kids' sheets. I know I am not alone in this. We don't have pets, so maybe that helps extend time.
