Sprouting, Storming, Snow

Spring in Nevada is a guessing game.
One minute it can be nice, warm and calm,
the next, storming and unsettled.
Spring brings green and muted color to an otherwise brown landscape.

Changes

I used to blog all the time.
I used to love jotting down my thoughts and sharing my photos.
It was never really for anybody but me.
Time has become regimented in many ways.
It is mostly work that takes up my days.
Changes in my life have left little time for fun.
I am often too exhausted to put two thoughts together.
I will, when I can, document the changes taking place in my life.

A puppy has gown into a dog and turned a year old.
My dad has had set-back after set-back after his stroke.
Babies are growing up quickly and turning six months old.
Life moves at a pace I often don't enjoy, but it moves on none the less.
Sometimes, when we least expect, we are stopped in our tracks and reminded to take it all in, even for just a snap-shot in time.

Little Additions & Family Update

Since my last post in November a lot has taken place.
We became grandparents in October. October 20th to be exact.
Our son and his girlfriend welcomed baby boy K. into the world!
We are so very excited and are enjoying this little guy so, so much!

Great Grandma was holding him on Christmas day when I snapped this photo.
Grandpa (my husband) and Baby K.
They like each other! *smile*
That is our son in the background.

In other news....My dad had a stroke two days before Thanksgiving!
We had been back and forth to Reno since then!
He spent 7 days in the hospital, received a pacemaker and then moved to rehab for three weeks.
We brought dad home on December 22.
He is doing okay and continues to make progress in his recovery.
There are many, many changes in store for us as a family now, but we will take one day at a time.
Mom and dad are both 86 years old, so mom will be limited on the amount of care giving she can do long term! Right now, she is a trooper and doing well!

As 2015 comes to a close, I reflect back on the year and it has been one of great change!
Happy changes, sad changes and life is what it is changes!
In the words of Dory the fish from Finding Nemo...."Just keep swimming, just keep swimming!"
It is a motto that I have come to say often to myself!

Happy Holidays!

Pieced Together Back in Time

I've been missing from the blog for awhile.
Too much going on these days and I can't keep up with it all anymore.
I miss blogging.
Nobody really reads it much anymore (thank you to those that do and contacted me to make sure all was okay), but I guess it's not really about who reads it, is it.

Summer flew by and now Fall is upon us.
Fall means quilt weather, chilly days, cold nights, quilt weather!

Recently I was at moms house and she pulled out these quilt tops.
They are very old.
Made by my Nana, and both Great Grandmothers.

The pattern below, we had a hard time identifying, but we finally figured it out with some help from a friend and research.
It's called Flying Geese and is a very old pattern.
Mom thinks it was done by her Grandmother, my great-grandmother, whom I never met.
This quilt top is amazing in its detail and size!

This quilt top is a Wagon Wheel pattern.
Mom thinks it was done by my dad's mother (whom I never met) and mom ended up with it somehow.
It's beautiful with all of it's color and detail.

This one is an Irish Chain and was made by my Nana (mom's mom) when she was 18!
It is well over a hundred years old!
The tops were finished but never quilted.
My quest now is to find someone or a couple of people to finish them for us.
I know mom would like to see them finished. She's 86 now, soon to be 87 and I think it would be very special to have these finished for her.

Three Dogs

A quiet moment where all three dogs decided to kick back together.
The black dog in the back of the photo is Jake.
Jake is the father to JJ.
I was dog sitting Jake this past weekend for my daughter.
JJ was so happy to have his papa around!

Jake on the other hand was not overly impressed with the antics of his son, but he tolerated all of his puppy exuberance.

JJ really liked taking his papa for a walk!

Mammatus Clouds

We've had thunderstorms!
A lot of them during this month of July, which is unusual.

These clouds hung low over the valley a few weeks ago.
It dumped rain on us shortly after I took these shots!

The storms have delayed haying and just about everyone has had their hay rained on!
