TUESDAY'S TRIVIA.

Tuesday started cold, frosty & foggy.
The grass covered in frost taken from the back verandah.

Along the top of the sleepers.

Ice on the pond.
After much debating & deliberation with our morning coffee, we came to the decision to head out to get some parts for our trailer, which needs a bit of TLC.  Made some lunch & thermos to take with us & headed off.  As we were going to be close to Braeside Park, we made that our destination for lunch & a walk.  Somewhere we've been before, but not for a proper walk.  Um... a lot of photos were taken, so join me as we potter along.
Starting with the tree sculptures, which I have posted before with one of my quilts, but there are several more than what I showed.
The view while eating lunch.

The pelicans.

Sugar Glider.

More of the Sugar Gliders.
The tree below has many animals.
A wombat peeking out.

A large lizard or maybe goanna.

A koala and kangaroo.
Pharlap and either trainer or jockey.
This was one of our famous race horses who was trained in this area.
Carrying on with the rest of the walk, we saw many interesting bits and pieces, so here are some I snapped.
One of several ponds & dams throughout the park.

A post for your camera, but it was at such an angle, all I could capture was sky or grass.
Due to being quite old, the climatic conditions etc., it had moved over the years.
Could be remedied if someone would do it.

Snake signs appear quite regularly on my blog...................😏
Teepees again, but this time not at the beach.

Bracken fern, all green & lush, but such a nuisance in a lot of places after being introduced in colonial days.

Now this was a lovely little surprise.  A painted stone, very like what I've seen on my friend Kate's blog in the UK.
I didn't see any more, but hopefully this pretty one will make many more people smile.

Reflections in more water we saw.

And for a few trees, very much favourites of mine, but I try not to overwhelm you with too many.
So sculptural.

Notice the beautiful markings on this log.

And eucalyptus leaves, so pretty in colour & shape.
After picking up some trailer parts, we headed for home.  Stopped in Tooradin to have a cup of take away tea and snapped these few pictures along the banks of Sawtell's Inlet.
A rather grotesque carved gargoyle.
I've never seen him before, but we usually go to the cafe on the other side of the highway.

The tide coming in from Westernport Bay & flowing down what I always think of as a river, though it's only a tidal inlet.

Looking further down the inlet.
That was our Tuesday and although freezing to start with, the rest of the day was lovely and sunny and made a difference as we actually had an "outing" with social distancing firmly in mind.  I'm still not game enough to venture anywhere there might be lots of people close to each other.  Luckily most of our outings are just us two & we don't need to gather as some people do.  We'll wait and see what the future holds for being out & about.
OH.......one last bit of trivia from the weekend.  We did make a very short trip up the highway to see this parked at the weigh-in station before it made it's way to one of the big power stations in the LaTrobe Valley.
This load was being pulled by 3 prime movers and being pushed by two more.  It was huge and could only travel during the night as the road needed to be closed, so it could use either side of the highway.
There were also many support vehicles and these loads always cause quite a stir & lots of people taking photos.  Whoops, just like me, who finds them fascinating.

OK, my lot for now.
Take care all, stay safe & huggles from down under.
Susan.

5 on FRIDAY - GRATITUDE late as ever!

Yes, this was supposed to be done over the weekend, but time slipped away.
Seeing the world has gone crazy, it's been hard to think about our "gratitude's", but here are some small things that have made me smile just lately.
Enjoying some house plants & finding I've missed not having them around the house for quite some time.
Watching the bees & insects gathering pollen/nectar & knowing they are helping pollinate ornamental & vegetable gardens along with our orchards.
Having a very clever husband who has built me this chest of drawers, which I am in the process of decorating.  In this we have some scraps from other projects, pallett timber for the top, part of an old wardrobe that belonged to our youngest granddaughter, and a second-hand TV cabinet (costing all of $12).  I've bought some old handles as well as a few new ones.  I'll show it again once finished.
Tomatoes in our small veg plot.  This year I didn't plant out as much as might normally, due to our very strange weather, but the two tomato plants I put in are doing well now, as is our rather abundant silver beet.  As I said to a friend who is worried about running out of food, at least I'll be able to eat tomatoes, spinach & blueberries from the freezer.😊
And onto my fifth gratitude.  I've plenty of scraps hoarded to make into some little quilts to give away closer to winter (not the best time to be travelling too far at the moment), to help  out in our fire ravaged areas.  Just a little something more personal, than money, which is not necessarily reaching everyone.  These two still need quilting.

I know that I've missed the linkup for this but you can pop across to Kate's blog & see the other links.
I hope to catch up with a couple of other posts already planned during the week as we can't venture out very much/far until this crisis has passed.
Take extra care everyone & lots of huggles from down under.

MAY SCAVENGER PHOTO HUNT.

Here we are once again hunting for photos with Kate.
This month's list I found tricky due to life getting in the way and not having posted since the last one in April, has proved a sore point for me, but hopefully things will settle into a routine once more & I can craft, garden and just generally do the "stuff" that seems normal.
                                                                   THE LIST.

1.  COOL.
One very frosty morning last winter in our front yard.

2.  DISASTER.
A limb from a very large gum tree in the yard behind us came crashing down on our fence, just as hubby had walked up from that corner over at No.4.  It gave him one mighty fright.  The date on  the photo is not when it happened & I think it was some time around 2006/7.  My old camera went back to it's original date each time the battery went flat.  That is so annoying!!

3.  MOVEMENT.
On a quick unexpected trip to Sydney last week to sort out issues with little brother, we stayed in Kiama on the south coast of NSW & went for a walk one morning to check out the "BLOWHOLE" & it was living up to it's name beautifully.  The sea was just swelling enough to bring the water into the hole in the rocks & then "whoosh", up she came.  This always fascinated me as a child 60+ years ago and still does.

4.  FENCE/FENCING.
I really struggled with this one, but trawling through the archives last night, voila, just what I needed.
Taken in 2016 whilst out walking with my good friend Jayne from The View from Bag End, in the Lakes District,  this fence surrounds a lovely church & has the added bonus of a stone wall & the beautiful mountains behind it.  Ah, just making me want to go back!!!!!

5.  SPIKY/PRICKLY.
Again, one from the archives.  Taken at Mallacoota on the east coast of Victoria, way back in 2012 whilst coming back from Canberra, after seeing our youngest son & family.  Not too sure what it is exactly, but it was definitely dangerous with those spiky thorn-like bits.

6.  MY OWN CHOICE.
Now this is my "silly" moment.  I've no pets anymore & most of the other hunters, tend to show off their gorgeous dogs for their own choice, so to keep in the swing of things, here is one I took yesterday.  This doggie sits at the entrance to an Agricultural Contractors yard on the edge of town & he is sort of cute.

OK, my lot done for this month & hopefully I'll be posting a tad more over the next half of this year, as I do have some days out and crafty bits to blog about.  Over the weekend I'll catch up with the other hunters & add my name to the link.
Enjoy the weekend everyone, take care and sending lots of huggles to all.
Susan.
