Top Ten Meme - G

FemBlog tagged me with a meme a long (long) time ago and I forgot about it... You are supposed to list ten things you like that all start with the same letter, and why you like them. You are supposed to use the letter you are tagged with, and I was tagged with 'G'. I've been working on this list for awhile now... G isn't an easy letter

1. Giggles - particularly baby giggles, one of the best sounds in the world
2. Gardens - flower gardens, vegetable gardens, grass lawns... I don't know what else I have to say, they smell good, look pretty, and make better food than you can get at the grocery store.
3. Graduate school - I love learning new things, my new research is great, it is the path to my job of choice, university or college professor.
4. Grandparents - do I need to explain? mine were and are awesome
5. Google maps - it tells me how to get where I'm going - for example, my brother's house
6. Glial cells - the support cells of neurons, that may perform other functions that we aren't clear about. I love my glial cells - yep, I'm stretching here but really... G isn't an easy word to go on.
7. Guanine - yep, still stretching for ideas - this is a purine base that is part of DNA and RNA
8. Gump - well Tom Hanks movies in general
9. Grass - I love the smell of fresh cut grass - this is likely because I've only ever mowed a lawn once
10. Green - I like the look of natural things, our house has a lot of brown and neutral colours, and wood and plants... well not enough plants for my taste. There is just something about the look of growing plants that seems to make a house seem home-y for me. And then there is the fact that when things start to turn green it is a good indication that winter is ending and spring is coming. Though as the picture posted yesterday indicates, green sprouts are not a guarantee that there will be no more snow.

Tip #3 for a Successful Thesis and a Meme

Adding new blogs to your 'must-read' list is an awesome idea because most of them come with archives of back material to read.

And Amy Lane left the following comment yesterday:
PS - you have been meme-tagged.Pick up the nearest book.Open on page 123.Find the fifth sentence.Post the next three sentences.Tag five people, and acknowledge who tagged you.

Well the nearest book is Sherpa, Popolo Antico by Alberto Ceresa (self published book by my Nonno) but since it is in Italian I will post on the next nearest book: Microbiology, fifth edition, by Prescott, Harley, & Klein
If the sodium concentration decreases too much, the wall and plasma membrane literally disintegrate. Extreme halophilic bacteria have successfully adapted to environmental conditions that would destroy most organisms. In the process they have become so specialized that they have lost ecological flexibility and can prosper only in a few extreme habitats.

I tag Beans and Caviar, Fuzzy Mitten, The Undercover Vegan,Femblog, and Marly, of the Yarn Thing Podcast.

Meme Meme Meme

Louiz has tagged me for this meme, which is the Peeps I Want To Know More About meme. Here are my responses.

The rules: Each player answers the questions about themselves. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5-6 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog. Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve posted your answer.

1) What was I doing ten years ago?
I was still in highschool - grade 10 was just finishing up. I had just moved across Canada the previous fall so I was busy trying to make friends. I had 1 cat and lived with my parents.

2) What are five (non-work) things on my to-do list for today:

play with Emma (my niece, she is 15 mo old and very busy)
take Lucy out for coffee (my other niece, she is 210 mo old and just graduated highschool)
knit (if I have time)
look at camera information online because my Nonna Lucia wants to buy me a camera as a gift for graduating from university (that was 2 years ago but she just realized that she hadn't given me a gift and that error must be rectified according to her...)
spend time with family, tomorrow or Monday I have to go back to the student life.

3) Snacks I enjoy:
Milk chocolate, cheese (the good stuff, like bocconcini or parmesan or apple wood smoked cheddar...), chips

4) Things I would do if I were a billionaire:
Stop working once the current degree was finished - my level of loyalty to people that invest so much in me is quite high, so to be fair to my supervisor I would finish
Buy house - not sure where, perhaps several houses - but if they are large I would hire a cleaning lady - hmmm perhaps I would do that anyway
go shopping - yarn, computer toys, clothing, books...
adopt quite a few children via world vision - and make a large donation to that charity. even though we don't have a lot of cash right now Cory and I have one little girl that we support. It isn't much of a stretch to think that we would adopt more
HAVE CHILDREN and put money in their RESP funds (education savings plans in Canada)
volunteer somewhere...

5) Places I have lived:
Desbarats ON (outside of Sault Ste Marie)
Cernusco Lombardone, Italy (outside of Milan - lived with my grandparents for 6 months)
Kelowna BC
Edmonton AB (briefly)
Calgary AB

6) Jobs I have had:
Babysitter & Petsitter
Retail
Housekeeping (very short lived - approximately 1 week)
secretary for a homebusiness
Mary Kay representative (again short lived, but longer than the housekeeping...)
fast food (sort of, they were a fruit drink place, no burgers or grease)
upper watershed awareness educator (I told people about where our drinking water came from etc in the hopes that they would be more careful about what they did - coop position)
scribe and tutor for disabled students
tutor (paid and volunteer)
research assistant at a university
statistics teaching assistant (university level - this is how I know that I want to teach...)
researcher (graduate school student... and they pay me to be one so I count it as a job)

7) Peeps I want to know more about:
Barbara Prime
Beans and Caviar (Okay, so I know most of it but not all...)
Maggie
Not sure who else to tag... I suppose this is my list. The others people I might tag either would not answer or have already been tagged

Meme

1. Name one person who made you laugh last night?
I didn't laugh last night as I was too stressed about a presentation I had today. It went well but I was quite stressed. Dr. Teskey made me laugh during my presentation today at around 10:10ish. That is the closest thing I got.

2.What were you doing at 0800?
Getting ready for school and doing a run through of my presentation.

3. What were you doing 30 minutes ago?
Napping, just a short one - 15 minutes long - does that even count?

I graduated with my B.Sc. in Psychology with a concentration in Biology, got married, moved to Calgary, and started my master's thesis at the University of Calgary

5. What was the last thing you said out loud?
"Who won?" Cory and his brother were playing a game of chess

6. How many beverages did you have today?

Black

8. What was the last thing you paid for?
Groceries

9. Where were you last night?
I TA-ed up in Red Deer (1.5 hrs away from home, but good pay for the amount of work I have to do), prepped for my presentation, had dinner at Moxie's - In bed by 10 at the latest

I live in a condo - our doors are beige

11. Where do you keep your change?
In my wallet, in the car, and in a piggy bank

12.What’s the weather like today?
I work in a basement so I'm not too sure of all of the weather we have (Calgary is notorious for fast weather changes) but I think the majority was sunny with blue skys, and a bit of a nip in the air

13. What’s the best ice-cream flavor?
cookie dough

14. What excites you?
Yarn, seeing family, Cory...

No, but I did yesterday and the day before that - stupid stress response

37. Why did you answer and post this?
Because I haven't done one of these in a long time and it seemed like a good idea. Plus it will mean that I will post about San Diego in another post and that will be good. More posts - yea

38. Tag 5 people who would do this survey.
Honestly, I don't know 5 people who would want to do this survey, or who I think would want to do it. So if you are one of those people I don't know about, consider yourself tagged. Oh, and let me know you tagged yourself.

I will post about San Diego/SFN, my meeting with a potential supervisor, and knitting soon-ish. Perhaps you could look for another post by Sunday.
