Great Club Killers flyer

If only I lived in Sweden... The Club Killers is a Swedish Super-group made of musicians from other bands who do covers of old ska and rocksteady hits. Kinda like a Scandanavian Ocean 11. For more info check out their myspace page.

Merry Christmas from Moneybrother!

Hardcore Monster fans like me should get a kick out of this song...
It's a reworking of their B-side "Falling in Love".

Moneybrother just made my day and broke my heart at the same time. They plan to release a new cover record, "Pengabrorsan" in only a few weeks. Great news, right? Well, it's a swedish-only limited release! nooooo!! Oh well, based on the new video, "Dom vet ingenting om oss" they've cheered up a little from "To Die Alone"... Which is great news! Apparently some of the bands they're covering are Donna Summer, Operation Ivy, My Morning Jacket, and Otis Clay. There's also duets with Jerry Williams and "Howlin" Pelle Almqvist from The Hives. It looks like they also have a song called "Falling in love (with Christmas Time)". How amazing is that? Maybe it's a Monster cover. One can only dream...

Petter feat. The Club Killers

Swedish rapper, Petter featured Club Killers on one of his songs, "Vad Som Går Runt Kommer Tillba" from his 2004 CD, "Ronin". As a bonus treat, Anders Wendin (aka Moneybrother) is featured on another track,"Showdown", which I like even better.

Here are both songs. Because I love you.

Petter - Vad Som Går Runt Kommer Tillba (feat. Anna Maria & Club Killers)

Petter - Showdown (Feat. Moneybrother)

    The Club Killers

Kids, it's time we get to know the Club Killers. You might already know that Tyler and I are the Nation's advocates for Sweden's Monster and MoneyBrother. GOGO13 even wrote a song about it. I feel like we are America's only fans. I say that because when Moneybrother played last year at the Troubador(their first American gig) we were the only ones that were there for Moneybrother and greeting them as fans. Yes they are genius and they've even won a Grammy in Sweden but nobody in the states has heard of them. Well regardless, Gustav Bendt and Viktor Brobacke of both Monster and MoneyBrother have put together the Club Killers. A 15 piece club ska, r'n'b and reggae power house. I believe the line-up also includes members of Ska Wars.
Now watch this video. I mean it.
Now go buy the album....and then buy me one.

VIDEO: Monster - Aint Going Nowhere

In The fourth and final video in our Monster video series, we see the guys walking the streets at night and having a showdown with a rival gang of hippies (...?). This was the first thing I ever saw or heard of Monster and at first I couldn't tell if it I hated it or if it was the coolest thing ever. I decided on the latter. For any of you Go-Go 13 junkies, you'll now know where their song "monster" came from.

This song kinda illustrates their transition in music. Their final album "Gone Gone Gone / A Bash Dem" was much less punk and much more soul. (they did an excellent cover of Lauren Hill's "Ex-Factor") When they finally reformed as Moneybrother, the soul influence was unmistakeable.

So enjoy this video. It reminds me of The Warriors meets Hair or Jesus Christ Superstar. A bit weird... but embrace it. These guys are genius.

VIDEO: Monster - You'll Be Sorry

This is a fast and furious little song. The urgency of Anders' voice is pretty intense. Great video too. It's a high-tension race on the highway as the band tries to save Anders from presumably, his girlfriend - which fits very well with they lyrics. I'm not exactly sure what the ending means, but it's rad anyway. If you're digging Monster, be sure to add them on myspace.

VIDEO: Monster - The Longest Line

Here's another Monster video featuring the band playing semi-live. I love this song. They did a Dub remix of it on a B-side somewhere that's really nice... The ending pretty funny too...

VIDEO: Monster - Don't Answer The Phone

If you know me, you'll know that I try to get everyone I know to listen to Monster at every chance I get. See, they're from sweden and broke up back in 2000. I've converted a few fans and hope to reach more because they're just so good. They describe themselves as "The Clash meets The Supremes". If that doesn't pique your interest, then you must be dead. Anyhow, they combine punk, reggae, soul, ska and rock so well... I wouldn't dare call them a "ska-punk" band. They were so beyond all of that. But maybe that's the closest thing people can grasp. Parker called them the "rudest non-ska band ever"... but whatever - enough of my vague contradictory descriptions...

This video is one of their earlier ones. I love the low budget video style, the dance breakdown in the middle, the style is killer... if you look carefully you can see the book "Boss Sounds : A Guide to Skinhead Reggae" on the table. Enjoy!

I'll be adding more Monster videos in the days to come... I ripped these from Burning Heart's "Hang the VJ" DVD, and if you like it, go buy it!! :)
