Los Straitjackets - God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

Aaaah so appropriate, so festive. Dig the "Runaway" lick thrown in there. That's good enough to make Del Shannon want to unkill himself.
.....uh...HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYBODY!

Moon Records - Skaface Comp 1988

Here a sample of something from my record collection. It's out of print, so I don't feel wrong posting a little nugget.

Ska Face!! The first American ska comp by Moon Records in 1988. This beauty contains recording debuts of bands like Let's Go Bowling, Donkey Show, No Doubt and Skankhead (the pre-Skankin' Pickle.) I love it so much I''d buy it again. Rad cover art by (I believe) Bob Fingerman who also did The Toasters Skaboom! cover. The tracklisting is as follows

TRACKS -
Side 1: Toasters: ska killers; Bim Skala Bim: shoes; Rhyth o matics: skatalation; The Scofflaws: rudy's back; Donkey Show: feeling nice; Let's Go Bowling: b*t@h
Side 2: New York Citizens: dance; Crucial DBC: don't run away; No Doubt: everything's wrong; The Boilers: bal man jump; Skankhead: circus skank; Thick As Thieves: 12th street; Exterminators: big talker

Do you like No Doubt? I do...did...do. Well, I like this song alot.

  • P.S. I love hearing your feedback!

Moneybrother just made my day and broke my heart at the same time. They plan to release a new cover record, "Pengabrorsan" in only a few weeks. Great news, right? Well, it's a swedish-only limited release! nooooo!! Oh well, based on the new video, "Dom vet ingenting om oss" they've cheered up a little from "To Die Alone"... Which is great news! Apparently some of the bands they're covering are Donna Summer, Operation Ivy, My Morning Jacket, and Otis Clay. There's also duets with Jerry Williams and "Howlin" Pelle Almqvist from The Hives. It looks like they also have a song called "Falling in love (with Christmas Time)". How amazing is that? Maybe it's a Monster cover. One can only dream...

    Dolly Madison Cupcake Commercial

Ok, so this pretty much won't be special to anyone besides me and Parka, but I thought I'd post it anyway. Here's a commercial for Dolly Madison Cupcakes featuring an angel (our older sister Rachel) and a devil (a pre-superstardom Corey Feldman). It's lame, but good for a laugh.

Elvis Costello - I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down

According to Record Collector (No 91): " Costello had been signed to Radar in 1978, via a licensing deal from Riviera Global Productions. Radar collapsed towards the end of 1979, and so Elvis's manager Jake Riviera alighted upon the Specials' 2-Tone label as an ideal venue for a holding operation - a one-off single - until Elvis sorted out a deal for the Get Happy!! album. WEA, who had distributed Radar, were less than delighted: they felt they had a stake in Costello's career by virtue of the success of the records they had distributed for him, and so they obtained a court injunction to stop the 2-Tone single being sold.

By March '80, the situation was clarified: F-Beat was set up by Riviera as an independent company, but WEA continued to distribute their records. In the meantime, there were several thousand 2-Tone singles to dispose of. These were handed out free to the audience at a London's Rainbow Theatre gig. Several months later, Riviera pressed up a few thousand more of the 2-Tone singles, and these were given away at London and US gigs".

Today: Disney's Gummi Bears out on DVD

Yaaaaay! I'm very excited about this release. I loved the Gummi Bears! Seasons 1-3. It was was my favorite show, and that's not because it features the voice talent of my elder brother Christian as Cavin (who played him until his voice changed) and the legendary Bill Scott, AKA THEE Bullwinkle who played Gruffi (until his heart attack). This show was brilliant for it's time. Action, adventure and Gummi Beary Juice. Help a brother out! Pick it up today!

    Slade's Skinhead Phase

Slade explains (and basically apologizes for) their skinhead phase early on in their career. Funny, though, because I like 'em anyway and I think the song they're playing is pretty nice... But it definitely doesn't look right.

(Not French) Pop Thursday: Majestic 12 | Nothing on TV

Circa: 1996, from the genius mind of Scott Schultz, aka "The Sea Ghost","Harry S. Schultz","Phantasmo Del Mar" and also, "My Cousin Scotty", came the MJ-12 who later evolved into the brighter, poppier "Majestic". This entire album was beautiful and horribly under-rated. That was my post mission soundtrack. I listened the crap out of it. Scott is also the co-creator of Yo Gabba Gabba. I love him. I attended the Newport Beach Temple with him and my brother Christian this morning. We were edified. But I digress...

    The Majestic 12. Find it.

We are looking to cast 4 police officers ( 3 male, 1
female), 4 criminals and a prostitute.

Each individual will be a featured character in the
video, so potentially good showreel material. The
video is for a track from a forthcoming feature film
and will be played on music channels throughout Europe.
The band, Madness, will be starring alongside 2
comedians who appear in the film.

We can offer £40 for the full day and a DVD copy of the
finished product for use on your showreel. This will be

you have to sign up to either a subscription to Star Now's services (a
minimum of 6 months) or pay a one-off fee of £23.70.

Before paying any money we recommend you read the site terms and
conditions as there is a LOT of legal mumbo jumbo to plough through.

This is the only info we have on this. We have no idea who the person
is who sent us the link, or how genuine the company are.

If you decide to get in touch with the company in an effort to get on

    Scandinavian Choirs

So this is what I learned today:

The Swedish are happy to meet you and the Finnish only complain.

    See for yourself.

    SWEDISH

    FINNISH

By the way, "Let Me Introduce My Friends" by I'm From Barcelona (the swedish band) is one of my favorite albums of the year. I highly reccomend it.

    French Pop Thursday: Pschitt!

I almost forgot that today was French Pop Thursday! Well, when I want a pop, I reach for my favourite beverage! That's right, a nice bubbly refreshing glass of Pschitt! It's the best Pschitt ever and everyone knows that you can only get the good Pschitt from France. ....Mmmmmmm

    Petter feat. The Club Killers

Swedish rapper, Petter featured Club Killers on one of his songs, "Vad Som Går Runt Kommer Tillba" from his 2004 CD, "Ronin". As a bonus treat, Anders Wendin (aka Moneybrother) is featured on another track,"Showdown", which I like even better.

Here are both songs. Because I love you.

Petter - Vad Som Går Runt Kommer Tillba (feat. Anna Maria & Club Killers)

    Petter - Showdown (Feat. Moneybrother)

    More of the Club Killers

    The Club Killers

Kids, it's time we get to know the Club Killers. You might already know that Tyler and I are the Nation's advocates for Sweden's Monster and MoneyBrother. GOGO13 even wrote a song about it. I feel like we are America's only fans. I say that because when Moneybrother played last year at the Troubador(their first American gig) we were the only ones that were there for Moneybrother and greeting them as fans. Yes they are genius and they've even won a Grammy in Sweden but nobody in the states has heard of them. Well regardless, Gustav Bendt and Viktor Brobacke of both Monster and MoneyBrother have put together the Club Killers. A 15 piece club ska, r'n'b and reggae power house. I believe the line-up also includes members of Ska Wars.
Now watch this video. I mean it.
Now go buy the album....and then buy me one.
